Regulation and OT have more in common than OT and shootout.
-
That may not be the most beautiful goal in the world to the average fan, but it is to me. A point shot from Lidstrom being deflected in by Holmstrom is a really healthy omen for this team.
-
I'm not sure the proposed system would lead to teams trying harder to win in regulation. For every team that wants to gain 3 points and plays to win in regulation, there's another team that's afraid of giving up that much ground and plays it safe to get to OT.
-
It's a tribute to how soft the local media coverage is that not a single sports columnist or radio show host has even discussed the fact that Lidstrom has completely stopped scoring points. In Toronto or Montreal, it would be a front page story every day until something changed.

Yeah, I enjoyed the fights and May landed a humdinger against Boll. As I said in the GDT, this team lacks the skill needed to be an elite team but their physicality, passion and work ethic are refreshing. They don't get pushed around and they don't take any sh** off anyone. They also hit and play a physical game that's exciting to watch. Obviously, I'd take the puck possession game and 50 wins, but there is an upside to watching a more average team this year with the injuries.

It's really encouraging that we have Wings fans posting from HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA. Chin up, trooper. Don't get too down.
-
We'll take the loser point and move on. Not scoring any goals is no surprise any more. 3 times in 4 games, yeesh. Lidstrom's last shot on goal was... wow. I wonder if they get some guys back if they'll have to consider giving him some time to heal up.

The Jackets are coming out with more energy to start the 3rd.
-
You guys think Eddie O. has been dissing the Wings? I'm on the opposite side of the fence; I think he praises them too much for where they're at right now. Comments like, "You can't turn the puck over against this Detroit Red Wings team" are kind of fallacious at this point.
-
As much as this team is lacking in skill at this point, the level of energy, passion, physicality and determination is exciting to watch! They're working so hard on defense and on the PK, in particular. The effort is really impressive.
-
Man, this team would need an act of God to score a goal right now.
-
I see someone else already addressed this but it's clearly taken away his ability to shoot the puck. Nick simply will not shoot the puck no matter what opportunity presents itself. He defers in every situation and if he has an open shot, he stickhandles until he isn't open anymore and has a reason to pass the puck.

Hasek in his prime was the best goaltender I ever watched, and by a wide margin.
-
He's posting from Illinois. You do the math.

We Should Have Gooned it Up These Last Two Games
BlueMonk replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
I'm with you. Play hard, hit, finish your checks, muck it up a bit, show some passion. It's never been this team's M.O. but they finally have the roster to do it and it would have been nice to see under the circumstances. -
I can't believe anyone cares whether or not fans boo a former player.
-
Lidstrom and Datsyuk are definitely disappointing right now. Datsyuk's struggles are somehow less worrisome for me than Lidstrom's. Lidstrom can't score a point, ever. He can't even shoot the puck. If he's running the point on the PP and has an open shot, he hangs onto the puck until a defender skates up to him and then dishes it to the half-boards. What does this mean? I don't know, but it looks like he is avoiding shooting the puck and waits until the shot's no longer there to have an excuse to pass it away. Injury, age; I don't know what it is. But when they have exactly one offensive defenseman in the lineup, he can't be afraid to shoot the puck.
-
Crosby couldn't carry his team with even one regular (Malkin) out, let alone 10. Nobody is capable of doing that.
-
Can't win without players. It's no fun to watch but you can't really blame the team for struggling. If you subtract 10 starters from a team's lineup, it's not going to be able to win games.
-
I can't get too down on the team for the lack of energy. They played their asses off in Dallas and deserved a win but the whistles went awry and the bounces weren't friendly. You play a game like that expecting to get a good result but they didn't and there wasn't much left in the tank for tonight. As depleted as the Wings are, the Hawks aren't "over" Detroit yet. They're going to get as fired up for this game as a meaningful one because they're not sure they can beat this team even on a night like this. The Wings had a lot going against them tonight. It's that Dallas loss that really has me sour. That really sucked.

Hey, a power play!
-
I'm sorry, but if the standard for hooking in this game is the call they made on Bertuzzi in the 1st period, the Wings should have had power plays by now.
-
They're being outclassed on the ice now for sure. But it's a double-edged sword. When your team is dominating but only up one goal, it's very tense. The Wings are one lucky shot away from tying a game they aren't really competing in right now.
-
That the league didn't manage to get this game on national TV and that FSDetroit is broadcasting it in standard definition speaks volumes about the NHL. Brutal call on Bertuzzi. Worst hooking call I've seen in a long time, and that's saying something. Wings look like they played last night.

Weird bounces on both sides but the decisive element today was officiating. The Wings were up against it today and couldn't overcome it. It's pretty disheartening watching Darren Helm play the game of his life and have the stripes swallow their whistles while guys are mugging him. Not to mention the uncalled slashes and such.
