What a limp-wristed clearing attempt by Ericsson. Come on, kid.

Close. 27th overall going into tonight's games.

So: 1) If I hear "just wide" in reference to a Detroit shot one more time, I'll damage my really nice, flat-screen HDTV. 2) The guys look asleep out there. Pucks underneath guys' feet and they're the last to know it. Not looking alert or like their heads are really in the game. 3) Lidstrom is unrecognizable.

Nobody on this team can shoot the puck straight. A goalpost feels like a goal with this group. Guys who are supposed to be able to score miss the net by a mile.

So now it's like a 4 on 3, since the point man on the PP is for whatever reason forbidden to shoot the puck.

Okay, the goalie move with the stick is not a penalty. The Wings have themselves to blame. Put one past Conklin. This PP would be a great time to do it.

I'm okay with that being called a dead play. I'm not okay with a 4 minute high sticking penalty being ignored where the Detroit player is bleeding all over the ice.

Wait, it's not a penalty if the goalie does it? Or did they acknowledge that they missed it?

I want to see more point shots, too. Even when the defenseman gets time and space, he passes it up and moves the puck to the forward on the half-boards. I don't get it. That shot was a staple of their PP with Homer, Franzen or Cleary mucking it up in front of the net. They've abandoned it completely this season, no matter who's quarterbacking the PP unit.

The Hockey Gods refused to let that one slip away, thankfully. Jimmy Howard! Man, outside of that brutal game last start, he's been very solid.

Don't anyone try to tell me the officials don't decide hockey teams. This is an evenly matched contest but one team is getting away with stuff the other one isn't. Ridiculous and completely unacceptable.

The Hockey Gods would not allow the Rags to score on that unjust PP.

Lebda's shortcomings would be easier to take if he could score. But he pinches and it never leads to goals, so what's the point? By the way, have we officially reverted to pre-lockout officiating standards for obstruction? I see muggings all over the ice the past couple of weeks, but no whistles.

Finally they get it together back at even strength. Makes sense, it's been that kind of season. We'll take it!

Very happy with Z's and Bert's games tonight.

Too many Red Wings falling down on the ice for no apparent reason. I'm not just talking about tonight; I know the NY ice surface is terrible. I mean in general, all season long.

Complete defensive confusion in front of their own net again. Seeing that way too often.

As long as the Wings get in the playoffs. Because if they do, there's a chance all this ridiculous, bad puck luck turns around, they start getting all the bounces in April-June and they steamroll the league on the way to a Cup win.

12/5 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Devils 4 (SO)

After going down 2-0 and 3-1 (the 3rd goal was especially deflating), getting a point out of this game was somewhat rewarding. I think the Devils played last night, which probably at least partially explains how the Wings were able to take the game over in the 3rd. But still, the Wings were at least as good as New Jersey overall tonight. The team should still be really good once they get players back. Thinking about it, Rafalski-Kronwall and Williams-Filppula-Franzen is a hell of a 5 man unit the Wings are playing without.

That was a nice, stress-free game for us fans. The Wings took a lead, added to it and never let up. Bertuzzi scored a nice goal, I'm glad he got rewarded for shooting the puck. Turco wasn't really to blame for the loss, his team played pretty crappy in front of him. The Wings caught some bounces, just like last game. Weird how bunched together the luck has been for Detroit this season; 4 straight games with great chances that don't go in, then 2 straight with lucky bounces going in that had no business doing so. Jimmy Howard is showing me something. I had all but written the kid off going into this season, but he's playing big and seems to have his confidence. The Wings need him, because the goaltending has been a major weakness.

Couldn't watch the game but followed it on the BlackBerry and caught the highlights this morning. I changed something in my personal routine for the sake of good luck and so far, so good. I'm glad Bert got the big SO goal. He's worked hard and deserved that. So has the entire team.

    Tired of All the Excuses

Yeah, "puck luck" is definitely a factor. The Wings need to create better scoring chances, sure. But let's be honest, no team has as its game plan to be outshot 40-17. The Wings are doing a lot of the right things and if they continue to do them, they will score goals. I think.
