The whole team deserves blame but a goaltender needs to stop at least one of those last two goals. I've cut the goalies a lot of slack all year but they need to be better.

3 goals on 11 shots. How deflating for a team. They have to play near perfect hockey just to hold an opponent to 3 goals.

Wings didn't work hard enough on that power play. Bad omen not scoring on the 5 on 3.

Regardless of whether or not people agree with this particular suspension, I'm always amazed that some people actually like the guy. Count me in the "If making the league more marketable means more guys like this, then let's stick with a cult following and a TV deal with Versus" camp.

So the results from the 1/4 point in the season basically say there is no apparent correlation between winning games and the number of fighting majors a team picks up.

I'm a bit of a stat-head and decided to chart the relationship between team fighting majors and record. I used team FMs from hockeyfights.com as of today for the FM totals. For record, I calculated the percentage of possible points each team had earned. This adjust for differences in games played. Here are the results:

I should know better than to be surprised by what I read here, but you people pissing in the well over the fact the Ducks were on the end of a back-to-back are missing the point. The Wings have been on as tough a stretch of schedule as any team in the league through the first 1/4 of the season. They were due to catch a team that was road weary. They've been winning in spite of being the team on the wrong side of matchups like they had against Anaheim tonight and now it's their turn. Take 'em while you can get 'em.

Wings definitely getting some home cooking from the officials tonight. I'll take it.

The question is, why did they ask him to play back-to-backs in the first place? He's faced a game's worth of shots in only 2 periods.

This team just detests physical contact, either with or without the puck. Especially the defense corps. I sense that most of the Wings would just as soon hockey didn't involve hitting. Relying so much on stickhandling and positional play defensively instead of taking the body is a hopeless formula.
