Quite a few of us were confident that Quincey was a better option than Lebda. Now, Lebda's not dressing and Quincey is playing well for the Kings, but realistically it's too early to pass a verdict based on a few weeks of play. But the Quincey waiver struck me as a bad idea at the time and nothing has changed my mind yet. The thing is, the Wings don't need great speed or even much offensive play from their 6th, 7th and 8th defensemen. They need reliability and physical play. A stay at home guy who makes the safe play and takes the body. Lebda didn't bring any of those things, really.

Bob Probert wasn't the kind of guy to keep wailing on a guy who was down, not sure what you guys are talking about there. But this is great to see from Downey. He really took strides as a fighter and was right on the cusp of cracking the top ten heavies in the NHL last season. I hope he sees some action.

Mike Danton probably belongs somewhere on a list like this.

Good win for the Wings. There were some defensive lapses in the 2nd, but they clamped down hard in the 3rd and gave the Devils nothing to close it out. Osgood was tremendous!

OK, I'm as cynical about this team's chances as anyone this year, but you're seriously complaining about the PP this year? Clicking at 33.3% going into tonight's game? The PK and team defense are definitely concerns, but the PP is the least of our worries right now.

Wings ticket sales are up, despite the economic woes and the collapse of the U.S. automotive industry. The Lions have stopped selling out, too; the last few games have been blacked out. The Palace is full of empty seats these days, too. It's tough to explain the impact all this stuff has to people who aren't experiencing it here in southeastern Michigan.

I know what you mean. He has an annoying cadence to his speech. And he raises his voice at unexpected moments, too. He's improved a bit since he's started doing work for CBC and TSN and getting more experience, but he's still tough on the ears.

Hit totals are typically inflated in favor of the home team, but those sound about right for this game. The Wings are playing impossibly soft.

The officiating has been bad but the Wings are playing such atrocious defense that focusing on the whistles is missing the point. The team needs a serious wake-up call and I don't think they've gotten it yet. It will take a couple regulation losses in a row before it really hits home. Blowing multiple goal leads in the 3rd period again and again is not the sign of a disciplined, passionate team.
