Go to the net, sacrifice the body, score ugly.

Hossa is terrible right now. He looks like Teemu Selanne did when he took the pay cut to play alongside Kariya with the Avs that one year. I hope his season doesn't turn out the same way.
-
Kronner was tremendous on that last PP running the point. The Wings are like a different team this period. Hopefully this is the version we see in the 3rd.
-
Now THAT is physical hockey! Nice shift, boys!
-
Perfect feed by Datsyuk on that goal. Ozzie!!
-
Too bad there isn't a statistic tracking how often a player has the puck has no idea where the puck is and it turns out to be right underneath him. Because the Wings would be leading the league in that category, for some fluky, unknown reason. Cleary!!!

What in the world is going on with Stuart-Kronwall? These guys are getting beat like crazy.

"He once scored 50 goals in junior..."

Yeah, it sure looks like it. Not sure if that will mean anything in another couple of months, but they look like they're going through the motions right now. I think it's almost inevitable.

They're being outhustled, losing the race to most loose pucks, not being physical; these things are not part of a recipe for success. Where's the relentless backchecking from last season? Where are the big hits, battles in the corners and willingness to go to the net? They're trying to get by on pretty play instead of working hard for it. This is lazy, disinterested, 2005 vintage Red Wings style hockey right now. And Osgood looks like his head isn't in the game at all. It needs to start with a big hit or a fight to get the crowd and the team fired up. The latter is impossible with this lineup, but Kronner could at least lay out a big, open-ice hit to get something going.

He has been. He should have twice the points he has by now.

I loved Probert, he may have been my favorite Red Wing of that era. He was everything an enforcer should be. You see so many of the heavyweights today spot pick fights and not risk losses by fighting cautious ("hugging"). Not Probert. He gave every up and coming kid a shot at the belt. And, most importantly, he protected his teammates. Ask Steve Yzerman how much Probert meant to his success. Not just in terms of longevity, but as a big guy who made room for him on the ice. Probert's offensive skills were pretty good. He was an all-star in 1987-88, as someone pointed out. He had 29 goals and 398 PIMs and he said if he had scored one more goal, he would have immediately dropped his gloves and started punching someone to break the 30-400 mark. The days of the Bruise Brothers were a fun time. Not as much fun as watching a Stanley Cup celebration, but seeing that style of hockey was always a thrill for me. The Detroit fans loved that bruising style and a lot of us do miss that element of those teams.

Just saying something doesn't look right with him since pre-season, and an injury wouldn't surprise me.

The Oilers dressed Steve MacIntyre, a 6'6", 265lb enforcer who played in the AHL for Providence and has a reputation as an absolute beast. No scraps against the Ducks tonight, kind of disappointed. I thought for sure one of the Ducks would oblige.

I heard Holland on XM 204 Home Ice when the subject came up and he seemed almost caught off guard by the question at first. He did say it was nothing major. To be honest, Hank has looked like he's playing injured to me. He was impressive in the preseason but he hasn't looked that great since the season started. Datsyuk, on the other hand, has looked great, although the stats so far would suggest they're playing roughly equal.

Ted Lindsay was a hero to hockey players and deserves to have his name hung from the rafters. I can say that without disparaging Sergei Fedorov in the process. My uncle had a refrigerator delivered to his home back one summer in the 1950s. The delivery guys? Ted Lindsay and Gordie Howe! Comparing the economic situation in the league then with the league now is pointless. Comparing statistics is, too. Goal scoring was much lower in that era.

Iginla-McCormick. Iginla had plenty of time to remove the shield but doesn't. Really annoying.

Godard-Cote just now, incredible fight! Best one of the early season.

GDT: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers
BlueMonk replied to DatsyukownzU13's topic in General
You got one alright! What a fight! Godard-Cote fight of the year so far. -
It may be 10-15 games before Hossa really gels with Datsyuk. Remember, they didn't get to play the preseason together because of Datsyuk's injury. You gotta give these lines some time, especially if the team is winning in spite of the slow progress.

The Wings have a long ways to go to retain their form from last season, especially on defense. But my god, Ty F**king Conklin! Tremendous.
-
I agree, it has peripheral benefits that go beyond gripes about the declining vet who still gets to play.
-
No matter how you slice it, the ice time Chelios will get this year could have (in my opinion) been better spent on developing one of the young d-men in their system.
-
The Wings are being loyal to Chelios to a fault. And that fault is that they let Quincey go because they bothered re-signing Chelios last summer. The Cheli thing is all nostalgia at this point. The Wings need to move on.

Tootoo mixes it up with Turco but when Ott comes in, his gloves are sewn on.
