Dispelling some myths: the Pittsburgh Penguins
BlueMonk replied to betterREDthandead's topic in General
I heard an interesting take on the faceoff issue from Denis Potvin on XM 204 Home Ice this morning. With the Wings being a puck possession team and being best at winning faceoffs while the Pens have been the worst, it seems like a big advantage to Detroit. But Potvin points out that if the Wings win a draw in their defensive zone, it gives the Pens a chance to send their forwards in to forecheck and create pressure on the Wings' defense. Interesting point, and I'm anxious to see just how that aspect of the matchup plays out. -
No matter how bad the angle, no matter how clogged up the shooting lane is, Sammy will shoot the puck. I'd love to see a statistic that measures players with the greatest number of shots taken from within 6 inches of the goal line. Because I think Sammy would rank really high in that category.

Check out the latest results of a Detroit News poll: CyberSurvey With a total lack of consideration for Detroit fans, the NHL and NBA have scheduled both the Red Wings and Pistons to play on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday nights. Yes, you can click back and forth on the TV, or watch one and record the other, but which one will get the majority of your time? The Red Wings 95.70% The Pistons 4.30% Click here to comment on this topic

People are just looking for a reason to bash Turco. We have no idea what was said, or in what context it was said. Marty shook hands with Osgood, and that's all I care about. I wish Chelios could say the same thing about last season's handshake line after the Ducks eliminated the Wings.

Well, the Stars made a hell of a series out of it after all. I think the Wings just wore them down and the Stars couldn't sustain the kind of performance they would have needed to win the series; they left everything they had on the Detroit ice in game 5. Teams can do that once or twice against a better team in a playoff series, but they can't usually do it four times. Turco shook the JLA ghost, but in the end, he was outplayed by Chris Osgood in this series. I do have to say, though: Brendan Morrow is a mensch. Hopefully, the Wings will get Franzen back for the next round. The second line was awful without him and they could really use the lift.

STANLEY CUP FINALS, MOTHERF**KERS!!!!!! Sorry, had to get that out.

Osgood > Turco

Maybe now they'll ease up with the whistles. The NHL really is a garage league.

Sorry, BR!

There's a photoshop thread. If you want to have fun with pictures, post them there, not here.

If Mac can't play hockey, at least let him drop 'em with Ott. I want my pound of flesh.
-
What, exactly, does D-Mac bring to the table that Downey doesn't? Mac is brutal out there.

Heh, I love Hughson. The best one by far is Filppula. I won't even begin to try to write it out phonetically.
-
Hughson is hilarious. "Leeel-Yahhh."

Did Lilja just trip Barch? Was there any reason for that, up 4-0? Could Barch score skating in alone on an empty net?
-
Great move by Z, but Turco needs to make that save if the Stars want to stay in this game.

I missed it, but people were posting about it a few pages back.

It sure gets old, doesn't it?

Awesome!

Yeah!

Weak, weak hooking call. We'll take it.

First goal, yeah!!!

Look at all the empty seats in Dallas to start the first period. Should be a front page story on all the sports pages, right? Yeah, probably.
