Damn, I missed the Columbus goal watching Coach's Corner but I tuned in just in time to see E's goal!
-
Well that period ended well!
-
Abby, either block the shot or get out of the way. Don't do that, though.

It's been a long time since I complained about this, but the team is showing a lack of toughness lately. Missing players or not, they need to not just stand there and take it when the other team starts roughing them up. I see the goalie getting run, players getting knocked on their asses, and they do nothing about it.

You love Colorado. We get it.

More interference let go. Hello, 1974 NHL.
-
I'm not much of a Draperfan right now.
-
Hard to believe the league cracked down on obstruction only 5 years ago. There's no remnant of that today. The league is back to allowing constant holding and interference again. Also, the 2003 push to have hurry-up faceoffs. See any evidence of that now?

Next person to blame this score on the goaltender is getting banned. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Twice Detroit defensemen stepped up to make a hit and twice the puck is in their own net thanks to an odd-man rush. That play that led to Raf's hook, the two forwards got behind BOTH of the d-men. I mean, come on. Speed is one thing but that's inexcusable.

If Detroit gets the next goal, the Avs are gonna start sh**tin' their pants again.

The WJC can get unpredictable but I have to admit I was shocked that Russia came back in this one. They showed a lot of heart. Man, those Russian kids are hard to look at. You could cast an entire The Hills Have Eyes sequel with that roster.

Man, the Oilers are just having one of those seasons. When it goes wrong, it all goes wrong. We'll take it!
-
Just getting outworked by the Oilers now. They're busting ass to get to loose pucks and Detroit just wants to make it all happen with passes, which don't connect and turn into turnovers. Anything but but moving their feet and skating, I guess. That's just too much work.

I can't stand Crosby but this is the smart business move for the NHL for sure. The kid has been absolutely incredible this year. He plays with garbage linemates and puts up a streak that is unheard of in this era of hockey. The fact that he's even got a whiff of an all-time point streak top-10 in this time of defensive hockey is remarkable. The league has to capitalize on it. The Red Wings get national coverage because of their national appeal, too. It only makes $en$e. That said, I did enjoy watching Sid's point streak end last night after the NHL's marketing campaign hedged their bets that it would still be going as of Saturday's game. Heh. Hopefully he shaves that ridiculous mustache now.

Great point about the one-timers. Those really did seem to disappear from Detroit's offensive arsenal after Shanny and Hull left. Huds would rip one off now and then but he was gone last year. It's a threat you need to have to keep the other team honest. If they can time all their blocked shots around guys setting up slapshots, the offense will struggle.

Great gut-check road win after giving up those 3 quick goals. So good to see that the guys who need to step are doing it. Eaves really, really looks good right now. How awesome for him to get the hat trick. 6 points out of a possible 6 on the road trip. We'll take it! So is Arby's back to giving free curly fries again? I thought they switched it to jr. roast beef sandwiches?

They punished a player for making an obscene gesture to another player. So when one of the guys responsible for maintaining order on the ice does it, and to the fans no less, of course he should be disciplined for it. To do anything else would be indefensible. Which is sort of the NHL's thing, so don't be surprised. Still kind of funny, though.

Yeah! Man, I can't believe Detroit won that game. Total robbery! Ozzie played great; he deserved to get his 400th win. That it came in a game like this is fitting. Congrats, Ozzie! And most importantly, 2 big points!
-
Went to the game last night and first thing I checked when I got home was the box score. I was relieved to see that Hudler was scratched. Relieved because I hadn't seen him all night and would hate to think he was that invisible on the ice!
-
I was at the game and obviously we left disappointed. The place was ready to explode for Ozzie to get his 400th. Overall, Ozzie was so-so. He made some spectacular saves during that 4 on 3 they killed and I thought maybe the tide was turning their way, but no. Way too many turnovers and too much trouble getting the puck out of their own zone. Credit Dallas for some of that. The Holmstrom-Datsyuk-Franzen line looked very good most of the night. Rafalski did not. Lidstrom has dropped to a +1 on the season and I think that's not a fluke. The hat trick the other night was amazing, but he's making a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes the past couple of weeks. Not coincidentally, the team's record reflects it.

First time in 6 years the Wings don't have a single Power Play. I guess Chicago played a perfect defensive game. Pretty cool, now I can say I saw one in my lifetime.
-
The Wings have a 3 on 2 nearly every other possession and can't even get a whiff of a scoring chance. DRIVE THE NET. Too much east-west garbage again tonight. Crash the goalie, make the penalty count, at least.
-
Hudler is still a mess. He's supposed to be scoring. At the end of the day, he has 1 goal in 26 games.

Cheli not choosing to go to Detroit makes the fans' reaction hard for me to understand. All fan bases have their share of idiots but the Hawks have a disproportionate number of ignorant, caveman-type fans. It's odd because the other Chicago sports teams have pretty solid, knowledgeable fan bases. I attribute it to all the losing. I didn't hear the "Detroit Sucks" chants as much the last couple years when the Hawks started winning. They were too busy cheering on their own team. But now that the team is losing again, things are trending down again. It's a shame because the team has a rich history.
