If that hit goes unanswered, the Wings will have shown me conclusively that they don't have the heart needed to win a Stanley Cup.
-
Yeah, that was pretty weak. I was shocked to see he actually took the visor off against Jovo the other night, but that's been the exception, not the rule with him.
-
Yeah, that Edmonton-Vancouver game last night was outstanding. Just an all out line brawl at the end there, and the game was chippy from the opening faceoff. Someone mentioned it a few posts up: It's really cool this thread has kept going for so long. Let's keep 'er rollin'!
-
Hehe, the highlight of the game so far was Agalloch's rant.
-
Because of this place, I don't even like goalies anymore. Let's skate six a side and see scores like 43-38 and end the goalie wars.
-
You've missed the point completely.

A few weeks ago, I heard Bill Clement on XM radio saying that his only concern about the Red Wings is they haven't faced any adversity all season. Well, you can't say that anymore. Between the injuries and the losing streak, the Wings are knee deep in adversity. The Wings look as out of sorts now as they did in the first round of the 2006 playoffs against Edmonton. I don't like seeing them lose, but I'd rather see this happen now than in April.

I don't know who I have more sympathy for: Mickey Redmond, for having to deal with his health issues and surgery, or myself, for having to listen to an extra month of Larry Murphy forming sentences with as much grace as Frankenstein's monster.

Poor defensive coverage + mediocre goaltending + players gripping their sticks a little tight and missing on good scoring chances = slump.
-
I don't see anything worth even getting worked up about. He essentially said, don't hand the Wings the West yet. What's to argue with about that?
-
This is great news. I was getting concerned Holland might pull the string on a deal involving Forsberg and blow a chance at something really good at the trade deadline.
-
What an improbable win. I'll take it!

The Wings are playing like garbage. What a brutal effort.

For those who weren't around back then, maybe these team statistics from the various 1980s editions of the Detroit Red Wings will help explain why some of us have so much nostalgia for the era of the Bruise Brothers. 1985-86 Red Wings. Ten players with over 100 PIM! 1886-87 Red Wings. Probert, Kocur and Gallant all with over 200 PIM, and Basil McRae almost made it 4. 1987-88 Red Wings. Probert with 398 PIM. This was the year he scored 29 goals and made the All-Star team. Old time hockey.

The Ducks are the most serious threat to the Wings' chances of advancing to the SCF, so their struggles now don't offer much comfort to me. This is why the Wings' incredible regular season doesn't even excite me that much. All teams start with a 0-0 record in the playoffs. I still enjoy it, don't get me wrong; but we've seen this before and ended up disappointed in the spring.

The Parros TKO of Cote was amazing. That was probably the most lopsided win of the season, yes? And Cote asked George to go again later in the game, but got turned down! Big heart, that kid. Pretty cool piece on Yahoo! about the Sharks acquiring Jody Shelley.
-
They should do the breakaway without the goalie. Make it like the slam dunk contest where the players can be creative without having to deal with a defender.
-
Flyers fans should have no problem with that "hit" at all. That's the kind of hockey they love.
-
That's good stuff!
-
Total domination by Laraque. Did you see how BGL let Cote back up after he knocked him down to one knee? I love to see stuff like that. Credit to Cote who took a massive beating but wouldn't go down. Lots o' heart from that kid.
-
Daniel F**king Cleary! What a guy, taking on Pronger. Very impressive.
-
Hell of a win for the Wings with the short rest and missing Z. Probably my favorite win of the regular season so far.
-
Man, I wanted that win bad. Relief, whew. Thank you, Dominik Hasek!
-
It's a tie. Just shut the TV off.

Hartnell is a willing combatant and all, but he's a crappy fighter. He should be dominating guys like Jokinen and Zednik.
