Bryzgalov is damn good. Not gonna be easy to climb back in this one, even though the refs are trying their best to help Detroit.
-
I skipped plans to record with my band tonight because of the game. I'd like the Red Wings to implement a subscription-based notification system that sends me a text message 3 hours before the game letting me know they're not going to show up. That way, I can adjust my plans accordingly.
-
Wow.
-
I hope a busier stretch of schedule is the answer to these lethargic starts.
-
Please, let's not talk about the Red Wings getting an exciting, last-minute victory tonight. Because then we won't be able to SETTLE ONCE AND FOR ALL WHETHER THE SELANNE GOAL WAS A GREAT SHOT BY AN ELITE FORWARD OR A SOFT GOAL ALLOWED ON A BAD NIGHT FROM THE GOALTENDER. So let's not let the outcome of the hockey game, or anything else that happened during it, encroach on that epic debate.
-
The only thing surprising about this win is that it wasn't sealed until there were < 20 seconds left in the game. The Wings deserved to win 13-3. The Selanne goal wasn't the best for Jimmy to let in, but Jimmy was good enough and the Wings beat a goalie who was outstanding despite allowing 5 goals. Terrific game by Zetterberg. Datsyuk is just ridiculous. Ridiculous. Every time he has the puck, something good happens. The most exhilarating player I've ever watched, and I'm pretty old.

Well you gotta feel good about Howard getting off to such a good start. He really kept them in this game when the team was lethargic early. But the Wings got their legs under them as the game went along and played a pretty good game. 2 points is 2 points.
-
I just noticed that having all left-handed shooters is creating some problems for the Wings getting good scoring chances. So, I checked and the Wings have exactly 2 right-handed shooters on their active roster right now. Cripes.
-
Are shots still necessary to score goals in hockey, or just a lot of neat passes? I can't tell by the way the Wings are playing.
-
Yeah, swarm the area behind the net. Lots of goals get scored from there. Awesome strategy.
-
There are enough injuries that a dropoff in scoring is understandable, but the "depth" guys need to step up. Modano looks like he learned how to play hockey last July and I haven't seen any evidence Hudler actually returned from Russia.

Water has just turned to wine!

Phoenix is the best penalty-killing team in NHL history. That's what this is about, right?
-
Phoenix sure got their money's worth on Homer there. Geez.
-
Some things I don't need to see or hear anymore for a while: "[insert name of Red Wings player] shoots just wide of the net." Coyote and Red Wing in a race for a loose puck, ending in the Red Wing taking a weak, one-handed golf swing at the puck as the Coyote skates away with it. Red Wing defenseman can't hold the puck in the offensive zone on the PP. Red Wings offside entering the offensive zone on the PP. Red Wings can't get the puck out of the defensive zone. Kindl.
-
By my count, there have been 34 battles for loose pucks to this point in the game. Phoenix has won 34 of them.
-
Finally a well-executed PP. I can't believe Larry Murphy has a job analyzing NHL games. I can get drunk and babble incoherently, too, but nobody's going to pay me for it.
-
Nobody on this team.

HIT SOMEBODY. Show some freakin' emotion. You're getting your ass kicked, YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE OKAY WITH IT.
-
Terrible game, can't think of a single positive to take from it so far.
-
Crappy game. Missed opportunities, bad goaltending and loose play in their own end. Losing 2 of the top d-men was decisive tonight. Awful effort, glad it's over.

NHLPA names Donald Fehr as interim Executive Director
BlueMonk replied to MacK_Attack's topic in General
The PA definitely needs to get itself in order. My only fear is the probability of a work stoppage has increased significantly. -
Terrific news. And no cap hit!
-
Yeah, it's hard to get too upset about this one. Once I found out the Wings were playing on Thursday, I had pretty low expectations and they actually exceeded them.

Man, the teams left in the East right now are not exactly fearsome. Every team left in the West would have home ice against every team left in the East in a SCF matchup now. Unfortunately, all the elite teams in the West will have to beat the crap out of each other to get there.
