Or...a handful of other teams are idiots as well for not besting the Blues offer. If that's the best offer Montreal got, then shame on the other teams. It's still a small sample size with Halak, but so far so great.

I guess you missed the clip from 13 years ago that was already posted (that you pretty much reposted), which is why I posted the 19 year old clip. But I guess the cutoff for age of clips to be used in a discussion is conveniently 13 years. Sucks for me I guess. Speaking of funny things... I find it funny how a thread (started by a Wings fan btw) that was about the Blues hot start and how well Halak is playing quickly turned into a thread about how many cups the Wings have, how few cups the Blues have, how great the Wings have been for the past 15 years and how much better the Wings have been than the Blues. Blues fans aren't the ones with the inferiority complex.

I thought the Red Wings were the ones wearing red jerseys in this video:

Not relevant until we win something. Got it. But I hate to break it to you, but I wasn't saying anything other than I was excited about the Blues hot start and I am looking forward to how they play the rest of the season. I haven't claimed the Blues are going to win anything...yet. Nothing would make me happier. He's sitting out this season due to post-concussion syndrome. He should probably just retire. You have been awarded 10 forum points.

Well, just let me know how many games the Blues need to play before jokes are acceptable to you. You didn't? It was three cup finals ago...I'd say that's history. Do you want me to congratulate the Wings for their 2008 cup? Congrats. Better? Eh? When did I snuff out the Wings 20 year history? I'm just don't care. I'm kinda happy about the Blues nice start THIS SEASON...not sure why I would care about something the Wings did 20 years ago in a thread started by a Wings fan that is about the Blues hot start THIS SEASON. Dude...don't make too much out of a joke. It's funny because the Wings have been successful...take it as a compliment and move on. I have to explain this?? And I'd have won the lottery if I had picked the right numbers. What's your point?
-
Yeah, I'm not sure why after only a few years of poor play (still made the playoffs two years ago though) that people forget about the long run the Blues had with pretty darn good teams throughout the 90's and early to mid 00's. I've heard those comments before...and that just says a lot about the person making them. Give who 3.5m? Halak? The Blues didn't sign him as a free agent...they traded for him and then signed him.

If I wish to enjoy my stay? I've been a member here A LOT longer than you have. And the latter part of my earlier post was a joke. I try not to live in the past. I'm kinda focussed on the present right now. But thanks for the history lesson.

I hope your other 11,426 posts made more sense than that one.

What's also really exciting is the play of Johnson and Pietrangelo on defense. Johnson came into his own last season and is having a great year so far this year...and this is Pietrangelo's first full season and he's been very good. He has great offensive and puckhandling skills, but the knock on him had always been that his defense was subpar. Well, the extra time in the minors seem to have paid off because he has been solid defensively. Much better than advertised. You'd think that it would just be a matter of time before the power play started clicking with Johnson and Petro on the points, with Boyes in the corner and Backes in front of the net. There is too much talent out there for the power play to struggle for much longer.

Those paying attention to the Blues could see this coming over the past couple seasons...and then they added Halak without losing anyone from their NHL roster, which instantly made them significantly better. Great goaltending...solid system on defense...great transition game. And they just won in Boston and beat the Rangers in NY in back to back nights without their best offensive threat (Perron) and half of their defensive corps (Polak, Carlo, Jackman)...all our out with injuries. Really, the only thing they need to work on is the power play, which has been pretty bad. If they could get that on track a bit, they'd be dominant. Davis Payne has done a great job since taking over last year. They've won 12 games in a row at home dating back to last season and of course are 9-1-2 so far this year, and currently #1 overall in the NHL. Blues teams have always been known for working their asses off...and this team is no different. They work hard, and it is paying off. Hard work doesn't go into a slump. But I can't see them keeping up this pace without either the power play improving, or them scoring more 5 on 5 goals. They can't keep winning games 1-0 and 2-1...or at least I don't think they can. Who?

How did you acquire that event summary link? I like the fact it doesn't have the NHL.com header or side ads or anything...just the stats.

They were saying on the radio that Halak's save% against Western Conf. teams is over .920. We'll see I guess.

Very, very happy with this trade. Eller could turn into a pretty good forward, but he's not there yet..and he's unproven at the NHL level. St. Louis may have just solved their goaltending concerns for quite some time if Halak is the real deal. He's only 25. I'd trade a decent unproven forward prospect for a young goaltender with NHL experience and great numbers any day of the week. Great goaltenders are hard to acquire, and great young goaltenders? Forget about it. Time will tell with this trade. Is Halak a flash in the pan? Will Eller be a superstar? Who knows...but RIGHT NOW, the Blues easily come out as the winners in this trade. Bring on training camp!

People love to hate the Wings...so they buy tickets to see their team try to beat them. Makes perfect sense.

Pronger has made a habit of picking up pucks after games. He's always done it. Now, doing it in a loss in the Stanley Cup Finals is a bit dickish, but whatever...that's who he is. Here's an idea...maybe Chicago should have shown interest in the puck and went to pick it up. They didn't seem to give a crap about it until Pronger had it. This is an example of why I have always liked Pronger. Not only is he a world class defenseman that assumes the role of the team badass, but he plays with an "I don't give a damn what you think about me or what I do, I'm going to do whatever the F I want. Oh, you don't like it, well what are you gonna do about it?" attitude. Oh yeah, and he wins too. Blues should have never gotten rid of him. Might be the biggest mistake in team history. Bill Laurie can rot in hell.

Probably because you aren't willing to listen to reason/logic? Why do you say that you understand the safety concerns, but then you come back and say that you don't understand why a kicked in goal doesn't count? I don't think you understand it at all. You can't allow guys to be kicking away at loose pucks with razor sharp blades when a goalie is down on the ice trying to cover the puck. The only thing you are doing is increasing the chances of another Malarchuk incident if you allow kicked in goals. More guys would be kicked & stepped on with those sharp skates. It's common sense and quite easy to understand.

I'm thinking you need to show some proof of that. Almost every guy who isn't a heavyweight goon, picks his spots. They'd be stupid not to. And Backes is hardly gutless. That's just wrong. Sorry. I hope your're not comparing Maltby and Backes. Backes is more than willing to drop the gloves with most players should the situation present itself. Maltby is despised for stirring up crap and not fighting...ever. I've never seen him square off and fight. Has he ever? Being a Blues fan and watching every game, I can tell you that Backes does not fight the heavyweights because he is not a heavyweight fighter. That's why Janssen is on the team. Show me any non-heavyweight so-so fighter who continuously drops the gloves with the heavyweights in the league...it just doesn't happen very often. To criticize Backes for "picking his spots" is silly. Everyone picks their spots.

Then I guess the Wings won't be beating anyone...seeing as the Blues have taken 7 of 8 pts. from Detroit so far this season. However, the Blues offense has struggled mightily this season, and their power play has been horrendous. But they play stingy defense and have gotten excellent goaltending, which is why they are over .500. If the Blues ever get their offense on track to where they are scoring three or four goals a game like most people thought they would, this team would be extremely tough to beat...until then, they have to rely on the defense and goaltending, and that might keep them above .500, but it won't send them on any long win streaks or see them finishing in the top 4 or 5 in the conference. The Blues may need to make a trade to acquire a "top 10" goal scorer...or possibly fire Andy Murray since St. Louis has underachieved this year. We'll see.

Will You Be Surprised if the Wings dont make the Playoffs?
cprice12 replied to RyanK's topic in General
So....not winning the central is "worst case scenerio" for you? Wow. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the worst case scenerio for Detroit is Osgood and Howard stink it up, Zetterburg and Datsyuk have season ending injuries early in the year, and they still feel they are in the race at the deadline so they trade some younger talent/picks for a rent-a-player and still miss the playoffs, and then the rent-a-player goes elsewhere next season. THAT, is how you do worst-case-scenerio. And, FYI, if the Wings finish behind the Hawks, they'll finish no higher than 4th in the West. -

To be fair, considering Osgood was horrible all of last year and he is your #1 again this year, I don't think that saying Detroit's goaltending will be subpar this season is that much of a stretch. To say goaltending won't be a problem for Detroit seems like more of a stretch to me. Just sayin'. Feel free to take what I said out of context. -
You're surprised at the reaction you got? Come on. "Taken out of context" is the norm here. And while you're at it...quit baiting me.

Will You Be Surprised if the Wings dont make the Playoffs?
cprice12 replied to RyanK's topic in General
I'm not saying they won't make the playoffs, I'm almost positive they will...and they may win the Central again. However... The West is tough. You guys know this. If Osgood and Howard stink it up, the Wings are going to be up and down this year. They won last year without goaltending, but they've lost some offense this year...it may pan out a little differently this time. And then the question becomes, when do they sign Legace? Or trade for someone else? -
They got Calhoun to do the PA work because he has never missed working a Blues home game since he has had the job. So technicaly, he would have missed a home game had he not done the game. But I think Calhoun does a great job. He's one of the best in the business...so it's not like they brought in some ****** to do it. And come on...the crowd was by far pro Red Wings. There were some Blues fans there, but it was heavily in favor of Detroit. If 90% of the fans are pulling for one team, that team essentially has a home game. The Wings essentially had two home games. The PA announcer and a graphic on the jumbotron don't cancel out 90% of the crowd being Wings fans.

Look buddy, I've been posting here a lot longer than you have. And I know exactly where I am. This being a Wings forum doesn't give people carte blanche to say stupid things. I've been a member here for a long time, and if I see someone post something stupid, especially about the team I root for, then I'm going to call them on it. And I did so in a respectful way. You should try it some time. If you don't want to be reminded of there being another team on the ice, then maybe people shouldn't make comments like, "the Blues didn't win those games, the Wings lost them." That was a stupid thing to say. Sorry, but it was. The Blues earned those victories. To belittle their effort just to make yourselves feel better about losing, is pathetic. The sooner you realize that, the better. And your comment about Blues fans not caring about winning...huh? what? That's just stupid. After that comment, it looks like you're the 12 year old...if not, your 12 year old impression is spot on. Congrats. You'll have it mastered by the time you actually turn 12. Blues fans live to beat the Red Wings. We hate the Wings so much, it's like a playoff game to us every time we play. And it doesn't make a damn bit of difference if Wings fans feel the same way, that has nothing to do with it. The hate is primarily between Blues fans and the Wings players. If the Wings come back and win the season series between the Blues and go on to dominate the Central again, then ok, you can make a case for the Wings not being prepared or playing very poorly or whatever you want to say to get around giving the Blues credit for playing well and battling from behind. But until then...your team just got flat out beat...twice. And you know, I'm sorry the Blues aren't Disney on Ice for you. Hockey is supposed to be a rough game...and the Blues play a physical style. I know you're not used to that style in Detroit...so I forgive you. Have a nice day.

I seriously doubt the Wings "stopped trying". Don't forget, there was another team on the ice that had a lot to do with how well Detroit was able to execute.
