*edit* Our team has played very average many nights this season and yet - here we sit firmly in 3rd and inside the top 3 all season. Average goaltending. Average defensive play. Throw in a few nagging injuries. I like our chances.

Hockey boards are funny this time of year. The way Neil's value has been so overblown is also entertaining. He's average at best, and it's only the hopes Kenny does something, anything! by the deadline that keeps this nonsense going. No thanks. This team needs Ozzie back and focused. Everything else will take care of itself if he returns to last years form. And our forwards are healthy. This love affair with the Bruins and Sharks is soon going to be over, with one or both keeping with tradition and bowing out early in April. Until the Sharks WIN it all, they get little respect from this corner. Come talk to the Wings playoff time Mr. Thorton. It's been a rare thing indeed, but this year, Kenny needs to do nothing to keep the sane Wings fans happy. Doing a deal just to do one is pointless. I'm willing to give Ozzie the benefit of the doubt. He deserves that. The Sharks smoke us in May and go on to win the Cup? Not a bet I'm willing to make. Go Wings!

Agreed! Too much bad history. Too many negatives. And comparing him and Chelios is silly. The fact Chelios was a mean sob and played for Chitown - of course alot of Wings fans hated him. But Pronger is a chump, with way too many negatives to even consider this. No thanks!!

Our defense has looked very average. Ty and Ozzie haven't look all that better. This team knows it's a long season and are still working some things out. Yet we sit at 7-1-1 and likely first overall in the NHL if we played the 3 games we have in hand on the Rangers. No worries here.

Thanks for that NVM. Some will choose to beat this issue over and over and over. Hell, I love D-Mac mostly for the beatings he'd lay on any and everyone, when he stuck up forour guys earlier in his career. But, the reality is our team is just not put together like that anymore. There is no way to utilize an enforcer, without losing another player out of the lineup who offers us a little more than that. As Kenny said, who sits? [i know, I know, some of you would scream Sammuelson!! ] Count me among those who think our guys aren't exactly ******* out there on the ice anymore. I think this team as currently built, has PROVEN that!!

Indeed maybe the time has come. I for one, don't want to let go of the past when it's D-Mac we're talking about. The memories ... memories of what he means wearing that #25. Where he's been, both on and off the ice. Seeing Lemieux turtle!!!! I have a hard time letting go, too. I was so behind him last year, with the hopes he might just stick around long enough to see another Cup win wearing the Winged Wheel. Then he did. Then I wondered if there was a way, he'd return on a contract even if he likely was destined for GR. Management does alot to keep their family close, and help them out. Indeed. As for Kopecky, I think we've seen about as much as we're going to see. Depth guy, yes. But that seems to be all he offers. Management isn't writing his name down, beside D-Mac's and Downey's when they're trying to decide who's offering us toughness. It just isn't going to be that type of team. But D-Mac ... ahh the memories. I love ya, man.

The Rangers rested Mr. Lundqvist to face God's team tonight, while the Rangers played to OT last night. I figure we win by 2 goals tonight. Too early to say STATEMENT game?

Minny comparisons are bang on. Wedden and the new addons don't warrant anyone handing them the Cup just yet. Assuredly, if the Rangers can go 82-0, we'll be guaranteed to sweep 'em in the Finals. Cmon, it's THE RANGERS. As for San Jose, wake me when the games COUNT. Zzzzzzzzzzzz.

How the hell do we lose to the Leafs?? Ugh!! Anyway, Ottawa's limping a little and Babcock wasn't impressed with Thursdays effort. I'm sure we'll be tons better tonight, although it will take a bit of time for Pavs and Homer to get used to Hoss, and Hank to get used to Mule and Huds. PS: Leaf fans suck!! Go Wings!!

OK. The importance of last nights game is more crucial to some of us than others. And thats fine. OF COURSE we are God's team and 1 loss to a group of AHL'ers means nothing in the grand scheme of things. We all know where we'll be at seasons end, and where the Laughs will be. But the problem is this: In Toronto last night, they were showing the game on a giant screen at a downtown square for free. The place went insane when they won, and the pathetic Toronto fanbase partied late afterwards like they had won something. Headlines screamed "fans party like it's 1967". In this context, you can see why it is simple inexcusable to those of us close to these losers to give up a win to the Laughs. But onward and upward my beautiful Wings!!

Pathetic, pathetic effort tonight. Losing your home opener, especially the same night we raise the Cup banner is disgraceful. Losing to the NHL's laughingstock is simple inexcusable.

Hossa: Smile. Look around. Watch that banner go up. Feel it. This is how we do it in HOCKEYTOWN!! And know, all Wings fans stand behind you!! The minute Hossa blazes by one of the Maple Laughs pathetic defensemen, heads to the net, and finishes off a ridiculous, how-in-the-hell pass from Pavs - his transformation into a Red Wing will be complete. When that new banner is raised tonight, let every Wings fan remember all the trash that was talked about us. Remember the naysayers. Remember the slights towards Hank & Pavs. Tonight is for all of us. Over the summer and throughout training camp, I really love the attitude coming out of the front office, and Babs. They know this team is likely better than last year's and rightfully so! I like the attitude that there can't be any letdown this season. With unrestricted free agency playing a larger role next year on this team, the time is now to win Cup #12. No excuses. Come prepared and ready to play hard every night. Hossa is desperate. The team knows why he signed here. 1 year. Make or break. I'm very, very optimistic. And very, very PROUD of our boys. The Maple Laughs are a joke. Their fans even moreso, and annoying as hell. They don't deserve a winning team [even if management really cared about giving them one]. Hell, the fans are still waiting on Sundin's decision! Wings 3, Leafs 0.

Nice link. Thanks. But why anyone cares what Don Cherry thinks on the upcoming season is beyond me. He barely knows who's who on teams other than the Maple Laughs, and he doesn't ever know the proper pronounciation of other teams players. He made his name coaching the Bruins yet falls over himself each time he's on air cheering for the Laughs. CBC or not, why the hell is he cheering for the Laughs? Because he's paid by the CBC? Yeh, insighful and truthful he is not. Watch the Laughs win 2 or 3 games in a row and see how fast he says they're gonna be pretty good this year. Cherry has some goofy suits and is an entertaining guy to some, but that's all. With his hateful remarks and pride in acting like an ignorant jackass - no thanks! I don't buy that much at all. Every year, the Wings ARE THE TEAM TO BEAT. Hello? Anaheim for example won previously, but it wasn't like they are considered, year in, year out, to be tops in the league in just about every damn department on AND OFF the ice, as the Wings are. Wings coming to town? Everbody notices! History is fun to look at, but I also don't hold much stock in that. Dominik retires, Ty comes in to backup Ozzie, who worked extremely hard this summer to elevate his game even more. Hossa replaces Drake. On paper this team looks ridiculously good. And no matter who's pencilled in where, Hank & Pavel are definitely on their way to opening even more eyes this season and leading this team [although them winning anything less than 10 Cups and people will still put players like Phaneuf on sports games and harely talk about them. *insert mandatory Crosby insult here*]. The Wings, like any team need some luck, and good health to repeat to be sure. But based on what they've accomplished last season, make NO mistake, they WILL NOT embarrass themselves like so many before them, after just winning. Win or lose, I go into this season more confident than last year. We now know what this team, led by the Euro-twins, can do. It's only UP from here for this team.

Nicely put. There's a reason expectations are so high on him. Why some think he's pegged to be just a checking center amazes me. Another season under his belt should vastly improve his development. And I thinks he's almost ready to move to the next level. And thinking about the skills surrounding him on this team, it really is sweet knowing he's got great guys to wanna emulate!!

Heres hoping Langer adds to Montreal and doesn't become a distraction. If not for bleeding Red Wings red, I've always wanted the Habs to do well.
