I guess Holland WAS doing something other than sipping espressos up in his office. Great news yes, but i'm starting to wonder if this will be the last move he makes this summer. Soon he'll start the Holland-speak, say the arrival of Igor is like a new signing. He's waiting to judge this team after the season starts. We might have to add a guy at the deadline. Well said. We need scoring. A winger or 2 who can put the puck in the net and be a bonafide top 6 or 9 forward. Yet you have some in here asking Holland to divert his attention to signing a guy who's a career utility player [on the Islanders no less] that can drop the gloves. Wow.

The problem is, you have to have another GM who wants him. And there ain't any management guys [aside from the ones down on Civic Drive] who think this guy is much of anything. It has always made me laugh [sick actually] that Babcock etc keep trying to sell this guy as a bonafide Top 6 or even Top 9 forward. Maybe on a bottom feeder team like the Leafs or similar, but on a Cup contender like Detroit? It's a joke.

Quit calling Asham a top 6 forward. He never has been, and never will be. He plays 4th line minutes and can fight a little. He brings nothing else to the table.

Anyone know the word on his status once he comes over? I remember reading that if he doesn't make the big club he's likely going back to Europe, having no interest in playing in the AHL. Did I miss something, because it seems some people have Igor all but guaranteed to be a regular contributor here and playing decent minutes next season?

Maybe. But i'd like to think our priority should be a damn winger who can play on one of the top 2 lines. Maybe 2. Some grit. Bangers. And can put some pucks in the net.

Holland - and this coming from me - is smart as hell if he insisted on a 1 year deal no matter what. I'm glad it worked out the way it did. Bertuzzi says he loved Detroit, the guys and said he was hoping to be a part of all the good things happening here in Detroit. That was bulls*** as soon as it came out of his mouth. He wasn;t worth anything more than a gamble on a 1 year deal. He disagreed. Oh well.

In my books Holland hasn't made 1 move yet. And if I hear him comment with another one of his "we're in no rush" lines ....

Burke is a monster GM because he signed a few free agents? Cmon. I'm all for bashing Holland time to time, but Brian Burke and the word genius simply do not belong in the same sentence.

I laugh when I see you say how you have a whole new appreciation for Bertuzzi now. I'm not sure what games you watched, but I recall him ACTUALLY doing something on a shift, maybe once or twice in the Calgary series. To be nice, i'll say maybe even once or twice again against the Ducks. Next season he'll be just another overpaid player. And since he's on Burke's squad - let's hope he's a BIG TIME bust. As for Holland, i'm GLAD he's not a betting man, because no way in hell should Bertuzzi have been deserving of anything more than a bonus laden contract of MAYBE 2 years at around 2.5-3 million per. Gotta side with Holland on this one no matter what transpired.
