Holland: Prices for Bertuzzi, Schneider & Markov high
motorcitykid replied to kindlwillbegreat's topic in General
Exactly. Let's not get carried away. Kindl is a keeper, but unlikely to unseat anyone on the big club - yet. And the talk about letting Schneider leave like he's Andreas Lilja or similar is a joke. On a club like Detroit you truly do not get to see how talanted a d-man he is. No-one's saying he's irreplacable, mistake-free or Nick Lidstrom .. but easily replacable with a rookie who hasn't even played in Grand Rapids? -
Hasek and Schneider. This season is another retooling year anyways. It ain't like Jimmy H is coming in anytime soon, so I have no problem bringing back Mathieu, even at his price and age. Those two are a must. As for Danny Markov, I changed my feelings towards him after this past season. I'd like to see him back too, if we could. But the market for d-men is not that bad, and maybe an upgrade can be had. Bertuzzi? Oh well. He might light it up on a new team next year, but that's not a bet i'm going to take. Now unless Todd takes a 1-year deal at a decent salary, can we end this silly love affair already? The betting is he probably feels he's shown 'enough' to warrant a GM signing him to a 2 or 3 year contract, with the "hopes" the Bertuzzi of old will emerge again. I hope Holland isn't that dumb.

It would've been interesting to see Scotty hand picking guys to head the front office and coaching staff, but since Toronto is run like a damn pee-wee team, good for him he never signed. I wouldn't have been upset if he did, although we'd lose a great mind here. But i'd be more like does he know what he's getting into? Scotty and Toronto? I think he'd be doomed from the get-go simply because winning isn't important to the board that runs that team. It's strictly the bottom line, maybe a few playoff dates where they can pad their pockets, but nothing else. I mean they just gave John Ferguson an extension for christ sake's. It is indeed fun to laugh at them and their "we are hockeytown" fans though.

I'm diggin' the picks too. And knowing our scouting staff, a few of these guys are surely going to be here in a few years and NHL contributors.

Holland: Prices for Bertuzzi, Schneider & Markov high
motorcitykid replied to kindlwillbegreat's topic in General
As long as Holland either offers Bertuzzi pennies or nothing much at all - i'm happy. I guess with Danny & Mathieu we could look elsewhere to fill their spots if money becomes a problem, but at the same time it's a bonus that they've already been here. I hope both are back next season. -
*fixed*

That is likely the best "new" logo i've seen. They made the black lines thicker, and left the rest alone. Nice.
-
If you're a Wings fan there is simply no debate: Claude Lemieux and Patrick Roy get ranked #1 and #2 respectively.
-
Calder won't be back.
-
But talk about overpaying.
-
*rings Holland's phone* ... "Hey, Kenny." "Who is this?" "I can't say, but I got some free advice." "Who the hell is this?" "A friend of Ryan Smyth's." "Um, OK." "Sign him, you will not be disappointed. Matter of fact - ask Stevie about this guy." "OK, let me get his agent on the phone. You sure he's worth it?" "Every penny Kenny, every penny." "OK, thanks mysterious one. I'll make that call now" "Smythhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!" *click* I hope Kenny took me serious.

Memo to Dominik: Do all you can to ensure you stay healthy next season. Memo to Babcock: Keep Dom's games played down near 50 like the 56 he played in last year. Memo to The Team: Go out and finish the job!!

Dynasty? The Duckies will be lucky to win a couple of rounds next year.
-
Agreed. The Ducks will be lucky to advance a round or two next year. As you said they are the exact definition of a one-hit wonder. In just a few short months no-one will be remember these guys, their fans will be cheering for the Kings again and no-one will talk about them except maybe Bettman who, while keeping a straight face, will insist "hockey IS working in California". There's good news in all of this. Detroit prides itself on contending every year, the Duckies aren't even taken seriously. History is not on your side, the Ducks won last night, and still are nowhere near the best in the NHL. Ain't that funny. Ouch :!:

^^ what he said.
-
Yes! Yes!!!!!!
-
When he played on Jersey he was known to be a dirty sob, but his game and yeah i'm in agreement, was and is as sound as any d-man around [well AFTER Mr. Nick Lidstrom ]. What I notice about him now that we see alot of Anaheim is that he cheapshots guys, uses his lumber way too much and I think that's what guys get fed up with. If you take Lidstrom as an example, he is by far the best defenseman around today. And as good as he is, as often in each game that he gets the better of another player, you'd be hard pressed to find 1 player who will knock him. Niedermayer? Get in line.
-
Unlikely he's ever gonna be a Wing. You know Holland will make a call to inquire, but I doubt Ryan is very high on managements priority list this summer.
-
Hell no! Samsonov should take his "selfish, show up what he feels like it" ass over to Europe. He's everything opposite of what the Winged Wheel represents.
-
Who cares? The way Anaheim cheap shots guys, goons it up and has forced hockey back to the days of clutching and grabbing ... boo hoo and cry me a river. And the press saying Niedermayer doesn't usually get involved in scrums, he must've been real mad? Yeh, dude will dish out borderline calls, but how dare anyone take a shot at him. Whatever. Memo to Chris Neil - you might only have one game left to make your mark on this series.

Ducks; A disgrace to NHL? Trend for good ol' hockey going to the
motorcitykid replied to a topic in General
*fixed* @MrSandMan - you're so bang on. As I said in an earlier thread, when people from all areas of hockey are complaining about this series, the way it's been called, what's been let go, and on and on .. it is pathetic that the NHL couldn't care less. But then again, maybe we're ALL WRONG, when new-to-the-sport Ducks fans keep screaming that we're either bitter Red Wing fans or part of a conspiracy to send the Cup back to Canada. On the bright side, at least we know if Anaheim wins the Cup, next season they'll be lucky to make the playoffs. Only teams like the Red Wings actually win Cups AND also contend the following seasons.
