I hope Bertuzzi coming in is huge but I doubt it. More clutching and grabbing and NO hitting. He doesn't bring anything to the table anymore unless you count his "experience". All I know is the Mighty Red Machine needs oil and it's on Franzen, Nyquist and Tatar to deliver. Quit waiting on Pavs and maybe a special teams Zetterberg tonight. I'm really sick and tired of this team standing at their blueline and passing out doughnuts to every opposing player who comes into our zone. Way too much open ice for Boston to skate with last night. Even if we can't take every one of them out into the boards, and out of the play, the players need to do a better job at covering the Bruins. I will NOT fault Jimmy in this one - although I did see glimpses yet again of him flailing around which makes him look unsure. The guys who need to score are not. The special teams are pathetic. We been going down this road for a few years, but in games against goalies like Rask, these special teams are sometimes all you will have. Another chance to force this series, and another chance missed. Very discouraging to see the team show up so flat, and unwilling to compete. Babcock can take some of that blame, but I got a feeling that the shine of making it 23 years straight is starting to come off after a fun last month. The kids are looking around, and even overwhelmed a little bit. This is the NHL not the AHL. I gotta believe we will see a different team tomorrow, because if we go down 3-1 - series over. I think this team has more to show and more to give this year. I really do. But unless we come out tomorrow and take it right to the Bruins, and show we don't give a damn about their size, and Cup pedigree, we will be looking at hours left on our season. I think it's time Legwand, Franzen, Nyquist, and Tatar start showing up. God help our defence!!

Best team in the NHL yet the doom and gloom in here like we lost to the friggin Maple Laughs. A split is what we needed. We win 2 there and that's HUGE, but we got what we expected. The team needs to quit trying to match Boston with physical play, play our game, let the refs [hopefully, maybe, probably not though] call the game properly, and go to the net. But fact is Boston simply could not go down 2 games in this series and expect to win. So they went out there and WON! I got no problem with the game, but if we play into their hands on Tuesday then maybe we can start bitching. Franzen is invisible but Babcock is hopelessly devoted to the veterans that have got him here before. I can't see Franzen staying this s***ty all series ... I hope I am right. Wings will be fine. And Chara was slow to drop the gloves .... cause he was doing Smith a favor? Yehhhhh right. Mucho respect to Smith yesterday getting pounded and pounded and never giving up. Take a peek at the Penguins BOUGHT and PAID FOR fraudulent Cup win in 09 - especially our series in the Finals and get back to me. The Penguins and Crosby are pushed upon every hockey fan worldwide yet he maybe cracks the Top 5 players in the league. Dude doesn't even kill penalties. And he sure as hell ain't a true captain. He is full of excuses and cliches and thinks the game owes him something. The Penguins get ALL the calls and they get all the SYMPATHY from the NHL. This is no secret. Whining about the refs is silly most times, but watching the joke the league looks like by pegging Crosby as the next/best one is funny - and not by accident. All those years living in Lemieux's house made him even more of a punk/pass the buck/complainer than he was in the QMJHL. And their coach now stands behind that team as another spoiled, excuse filled, woe-is-me "leader". When a team is laughed at more than the Toronto Maple Leafs - that's saying something.

This is my thinking. Boston will NOT admit it but there is absolutely NO way they wanna go down 2 games in this series. They ain't winning 4/5 games after that. I'd love to see the Red Wings with the first goal, and alot more of the same confused looks on the Bruins bench. I saw glimpses of that in Game 1. They looked frustrated and confused. One game a series does not make, but we skate faster, have the better D - right now - the better coach and it's time we start going for the jugular. Babcock will have these guys ready. Only question today is does Pavs net 2 goals or is it Nyquist? GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WINGS!!!!! There is really only one thing the Bruins know when they are down and frustrated - s*** disturbing. The refs - WITH NO HELP FROM THE NHL OFFICES - need to keep this series fair. The rough stuff and Lucic-type crap will be out big time today - especially if the Bruins go down in the game. TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN, MUCH IS EXPECTED.

The keys to the game are the refs calling it the way it should be called, and not letting the cheap stuff get out of hand. Marchand is not a plyer I personally would want on my team - as I see him as dirty as he is a "valuable pest". Call the games the way that game in Montreal was called - with a penalty shot in OT - and I think this will be a fun series. As for our young guys being scared tonight - I doubt it. The NHL isn't the AHL but the best coach in the game and the experience of a long physical 4 rounds last year on route to winning the Calder means these "kids" are not pushovers. The series is going 6 or 7 games anyways, so one game doesn't make the series. You can't judge any team until they each play a game at home anyways. I got the Wings in 6 if, and big IF, Howard is not the difference-maker in a negative way. We've got the better coach. The defense is a slight edge to us. The forwards are more experienced on the Boston side but I think it is a close draw. This series is ALL on Howard unless of course our forwards implode. GO WINGS!!

I understand that Shanahan wants to try management just like Yzerman, but boy oh boy he picked THE worst run franchise in almost all of sports. I cannot fanthom what he was thinking but it's not like he will be there in 10 years anyway. I can almost hear the dumbass Leaf fans telling anyone who will listen this morning, "WE ARE GOING TO WIN THE CUP NEXT YEAR"!! I loved Shanny when he wasn't a Red Wing, and even more when he came here. But this reeks of a Maple Leaf publicity stunt [they are already done talking about the miserable failure their season turned into ... Shanny talk is dominating]. And I know of no man alive who could run that goofball organization with their fanbase knowing nothing about the game - yet the first to tell you how a 1 player trade will net them a Cup, their horrendous scouting overseas and here, their buddy buddy attitude of giving friends jobs, and the interference from owners. Good luck Shanny. This stunt will last maybe 2 or 3 seasons then he will be blamed for being a Cup champ who can't win them a Cup. Goooooood luck, my friend.

The only thing I would've corrected is those sad group of losers from Toronto should have headshots of them crying and covered in tears ala Sidney Crosby - cause that is all they do. Over-hyped one dimensional players like Kessel and Phaneuf lead the way and their fanbase couldn't even name the other 29 teams in the league. Must win? Aside from the obvious 2 points and our position in the standings, it is also a game in which every idiot from that city feel is THEIR Stanley Cup. Beat the Red Wings and they say they are Cup contenders. LMFAO So I'd really like to see another loss tacked on to their soon to be exposed fraudulent season. A team going nowhere come mid-April. Go Wings [except Bertuzzi]!!

Very disheartening to see the final score after watching this team play some of their best positional coverage and defensive play in a long, long while. First 30-35 minutes of the game, I was so ecstatic because THAT was the gameplan going in, and they played it off to perfection. They worked as a team and I saw good things. But boy oh boy, we are in the quicksand now, and while NOT AN EXCUSE, this team is so banged up I really don't know if we can make it into the playoffs. Anything can happen once the real season starts - yes, but Pavs and Hank are not 100% and they need the rest of the year off. Coming back to face Boston perhaps in the first round [yes, I know we've played them well] does not look promising. By no means am I writing this team off, like some and I am 100% NOT saying we have bottom of the barrel players ala SHANAHANMAN above me [is he on crack?], but I am not feeling very positive knowing the road ahead. As for next season, it is cool to see all the Griffins up here showcasing themselves. Pulkkinen looks like a keeper after only 2 NHL games, as well. Finally ... a worthwhile injury. Can't stand Bertuzzi mailing it in, s***ty effort, turnovers, horrible plus-minus, no hitting, nothing to show on the board, and still skates in on goalies like he is playing ball hockey. Anyone from the Griffins is worth a look before this guy. I'd take ******gulp****** Samuelsson in the lineup over Bertuzzi. I can't wait to see him walk away this summer. Good riddance!!!!!!!!!!!!

21 games and he'll be gone. Would've preferred Vanek, but Legwand played in Plymouth which Holland thinks matters. Whatever. Not happy with this trade. And Bertuzzi should've been dealt - either replaced with someone similar [] or some pucks. He contributes nothing to this "depth" going forward which Holland spoke of. Excuses, excuses.

Datsyuk isn't even practicing with Team Russia. Now our other big guy is out with the back acting up again. Too many good players on Detroit, means too many guys being invited to the Olympics. Selfish to say, but I really wish this year wasn't an Olympic year. And guys are either too stubborn or pressured to take part, to ever decline an invite - especially classy guys like Hank and Pavs [who is nowhere near ready to play from that concussion].

I realize that players cannot remain the same throughout their careers. Injuries and age catches up to them. But this was the right decision and a bit overdue. I thank Sammy for all he has done, but this team has passed him by and there is no spot for him here. Good luck.

There's something in that Vancouver water. Very similar to Toronto water in that it seems to mess with their fans heads and it gets them thinking their teams are contenders. I've been to both cities [some of the dumbest fans in ALL of sports] and it's like the little brother who always wants to play with the big brother and fit in. But he doesn't. Wannabee organizations - both of them. Overpaying players like the Sedins, Phaneufs and Kessels and trying to tell everyone that these players will lead their respective teams to Cups. There is nothing like watching such a s***ty coach like Torterella squirm, complain, make excuses and insult his players in post-game pressers. I watched the Ducks highlights and couldn't stop laughing. My only disappointment was Luongo the Sieve wasn't in net so I wasn't able to watch him cry and yell at his own team in such a pathetic effort. Well I am sure there will be many more nights this year. Memo to the NHL: When a team wins 62 games and only puts up 13 losses in an 82 game season then you can boast and hype what a great season a team is having - like the Red Wings have done. Nobody is touching that record. And until these pretenders meet Chicago or Boston, they haven't proven a damn thing.

Truly enjoyed watching the Alumni game (boy Stevie looked rusty but we still love him!!) and even more because it was against that joke or an organization. Even more entertaining was the announcers discussing the lineups and how Detroit had to turn so many away, Detroit could've iced 3 teams - while the sad sack Laughs could barely ice 1 team, full of career perennial losers. Nothing like showing the hockey world - who hear only the negative things about Michigan - that besides Montreal, the Red Wings are hockey royalty. Nobody comes close to our franchise or the Habs. I hope and expect nothing less than 100% effort today from our boys and a BIG W - against the pathetic, wannabees from Ontario, and here's hoping their ignorant, s***ty fans ride those Greyhounds back home crying. I really wish these 2 brothers would jump a dude when the player at least sees them coming. That way it could be a fair fight. But they both seem to always attack players from behind. They both need a good ass kicking - ala Vernon/Ozzie using their dad's face as a punching bag.

It sucks that Sochi is this year. The timing is just awful. Just as players are retuning from injuries they will be leaving for Russia. And the cold, the travel, and half Sweden being Red Wings is a horrible combo. There might be something to these injuries each year. Yes, guys get hurt, and yes some of our guys are older, but these injuries seem almost commonplace for the Wings the past few years. Frustrating as hell. Kindl is far from our worse d-man. These remarks are silly (and YES we know about his +/- numbers). Smith is a decent puck mover with a bit of offensive flash, but the mistakes made in our own end are similar to a first year rookie - who is just learning the NHL game. Quincey ... ughhh ... just because he knew the system as a former Wing we brought him back. His payback to the organization is nowhere near good enough for all they have given him. Anyone remember the Lilja / Lebda first line defence pairing a few playoffs back? SMH

Great win [OK not "great" but very necessary]. Hope we can enjoy Xmas dinner with a 3 game win streak after tomorrow's game vs. The Isle. Gotta tell ya, my phone has been very very very silent with nary a text from any of my Leaf fan friends. If we would've lost, i'd probably be up on charges this morning. Had one friend tell me he paid $480 a seat !!!! That L looks good on Toronto. Very happy this morning.

Hard to find a team in all of sports with a fan base as crappy as the Leafs. They can't discuss hockey - and would rather tell you that a 2-game winning streak means they are Cup bound. I hope Tootoo will be in the lineup Saturday vs. the Leafs. He's played well in Grand Rapids so let's showcase him and hopefully he can pop a few of Phaneuf's teeth out.
