10/26 GDT Rangers 3 at Red Wings 2 (OT)

I haven't lost faith - these ARE the Wings ... God's team - but I am starting to really dislike Babcock.Holland's decisions on some of these guys here. Andersson is so damn average - defensive-type player or not. Chip in with a goal here or there. Cleary - invisible. 3 points. Bertuzzi - invisible. Weiss - invisible, though he is trying - but 5 MILLION? This team has NO indentity aside from #13 and #40. Nobody who seems to want to step forward and get this team on track. Babcock can't do everything. Anyways, end rant. This Western road trip should be interesting. As long as they get that MUST WIN vs. those overrated assholes in Vancouver.

    Ten Games in: Player Grades

Fairly decent review on most of our guys. I must agree with the Franzen, Bertuzzi, Cleary & Sammy comments even moreso. Bertuzzi is a waste, between those s***ty wraparound attempts on shootouts, and him looking like he has the Wings held at gunpoint for 2 million to "look" like a hockey player. Go, please. As for Cleary, while I have a soft spot for him, I do agree that he has done ZERO to warrant time in the lineup. These kids have to play. I'm fine with Cleary sitting, although I know Babs loves him too much. I was disappointed the deal with Philly never materialized. Sammy is too weak on the forecheck, too weak with those infuriating wristers to the opposing goalie's glove, and he looks like just another guy collecting a paycheck on what he has already "done" here - not what he may contribute this year. Franzen is too weak on the puck nowadays and aside from a glimpse or two of the old Franzen, he looks like a 4th liner out there most nights so far. We are in tough spots with these guys, agreed, but these kids have to play. Tatar & Glendening especially.
  3. No worry here. I do NOT expect any passengers tonight. We also have two of the very best players in the world in #13 and #40 - who time and again have shown they know how to lead and know how to finish the job. And the best coach in the game will have these guys prepped and ready - it's all on them to complete the task. The guys below them need to remember that while careers always seem like there's another tomorrow - and you will always get another chance at a Cup - those careers come and go so very quickly and you NEVER know how many chances you are going to get. Too much talking going on over there in Chicago's room and too much blame being passed around during and after a loss. I do NOT believe they are as united as we are. And again - we weren't even suppose to be here. That tells you all you need to know about US VS THEM mentality. It is destiny for this team to meet LA and force goalie Jonathan Quick's return to earth. I do not believe he is that good [it was the Sharks!]. I will love this team no matter what happens tonight, but we are on the edge of something very special here, and only 9 W's away from the Cup. We can do it. For Mister Howe. For The Captain. For Vladdy. ""TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN, MUCH IS EXPECTED."" GO WINGS!!!
  4. A great 24 hours: Penguins lose. Crosby crying. *check* Canucks lose and go home, the overrated clowns they always are. *check* Leafs blaming the refs for being down in their series, and Boston talking like Cup champs of 2 years ago. *check* Tonight, I hope whatever is left of Samuelssons memory - he'd do well to remember what those two guys on his line represent. This is one of your last opportunities, Sammy. And NO wristshots to the chest, okay? I expect every player to be ready to fight through Anaheims cheap shots and Perrys big mouth, and look to the crest on their jersey as inspiration. Nobody thought we would make the playoffs (laughable) ... and now we are 2 W's away from a very classic matchup versus Chicago. If we play the way we did in Game 4, we can wrap this up Friday. The Duckies have NO response to our hardwork and hustle - that much is obvious. ""TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN, MUCH IS EXPECTED"" Go Wings!!!
  5. ^^ This. Gonna miss Danny D but let's start strong and get the wiin. Take the series lead and get Anaheim re-thinking themselves a little. The young guys continue to get that experience. GO WINGS!!!!!

Could Kenny be working on something HUGE?

Yeah its funny, our organization was recently rated #10 in terms of talent. You'd think Holland would do something this year to shore up this weak defense [big guys who don't hit]. We know Kenny trots out the same old same old every deadline - nothing there ... won't overpay ... we were close ... we added DeKeyser, so that's our pickup - so I am not expecting much. And seeing as 3rd rounders are netting trade partners so far, I wish he'd improve this team this year. We are middle of the pack, and aside from 2 or 3 teams, no-one is guaranteed anything this year.

1/21: Red Wings 4 at Blue Jackets 3 (SO)

Wings win 3-1. Then it's on to the home opener tomorrow and Zetterberg's Captain ceremony. GO WINGS!

Post-TDT: Red Wings stand pat, no additions

^^ Well said. Sometimes you NEED to roll the dice. Take a chance. This season is a little different, as stated above. Status-quo shiuld NOT have been an option this year.

Post-TDT: Red Wings stand pat, no additions

No need to listen to the Holland interview as it will be an old speech pulled out and used again: "won't overpay and really, Quincey and Smith are our additions". Pul-leeze! Every year we see this. Time with Lidstrom is running out, and this team is NOT built for 4 rounds. For Christ sakes, look at the injuries starting to accumulate while the on-ice results start going south. No one thinks a first was worth Gaustead but doing nothing???

    Chris Osgood announces retirement

What a career, I can't believe it really, no more #30. With that awesome stance, as the camera caught him skating around his crease with shoulders slanted one side almost slightly. Head down, looking intently. Going over the game in his head. Osgood thank you for all the memories. I'm truly a little tearful this day is here. We love you. We will never forget what memories you have given us Red Wings fans. We know you ignored the off-ice nonsense, and bled Detroit red all your career. Thank you Ozzie!!

"We feel good with the people we have," Holland said

It's the fact Holland always sits and sits and sits .... then once the trade deadline passes, he says, yet again, "I like our team and there wasn't anybody out there we liked." With Holland it's the same company line every damn time he is asked about improving the club. Last year he said the same nonsense in the summer. He said we need a Top 6 scorer. And then the trade deadline came and went. Again. This is Niks last season, and i'd like to see us back in the Finals and winning another Cup. Who can honestly say he is going to shock the NHL and make big swaps to get us back to where we belong. The man is complacent, whether he's waiting for our young guys to get here, or he is simply gun-shy. Ian White and Commodore? Yeh I bet he beat out 6 or 7 other GM's lining up to sign those two, huh? They are DEPTH guys. Nothing more. Yet some already got White pencilled in as a Top 4 guy. Still waiting ...
  13. motorcitykid

"We feel good with the people we have," Holland said

You do realize this is what Holland says EVERY summer. And so far, Ian White and Mike Commodore are laughable additions. White couldn't find a spot on the 3rd or 4th worse team in the NHL. And aside from hitting, what else is Commodore going to bring? Forgive the arrogance here, but we are the Detroit Red Wings, not the Maple Leafs or the Bluejackets.Geez, last year we needed to add at least one more top 6 or 9 goal scorer to our forwards. This year the team is definitely weaker, and all we have is the same-old-same-old from Holland. The famous, "wait and see, I won't overpay, I won't rush even if it means waiting until the trade deadline. I have a plan ..." nonsense. As many have started asking the past few weeks, what the hell is Lidstrom thinking right now, as Holland hasn't done anything at all to improve our club. Not good enough, Mr. Holland. Not good enough at all.

WCSF Game 7 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Sharks 3

Woke up in a daze at 7:45. Look at the ceiling and started seeing the Wings players. I can't wait for this game. Literally checking the clock. 9:49, 9:50 ... I'm feeling really confident in this game. So much so, i'm already looking at Sunday night and Game 1 in Vancouver. The travel. The rest Vancouver is getting right now. And we really know who the Canucks would rather face, don't we. It ain't like the Wings will be exhausted going into next round. And the momentum from a HUGE comeback series win will at least carry us to the Finals. [And yes Mr. Bettman, we do see you scheduled the Western Conference finals to start Sunday, while the Eastern teams - read: no Red Wings - will start about 10 damn days after they last played. Very "suspicious" Go Canucks, I guess, huh Bettman??] Out-hit. Out-hustle. "TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN .. MUCH IS EXPECTED!" GOOOOOOO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vancouver Media already playing "wings too old" card

^^ THIS.And again: when these so-called OLD players are Hall of Famers ... Cup winners, MULTIPLE TIMES!!!!! ... within an organization and system that maximizes their skill vs. age ..... gimme a break!!!!!!!!!! It's the same old same old. Year after year. The Wings win - we're old. We lose - we're old. Moving along ..... nothing to see here!!! As close as we are to the semis, and understanding that we have a BIG test tonight, I am already anticipating a beating of epic proportions against these clowns out in BC. Has anyone else also seen those two asses who jump around near the penalty box wearing all green? Dance, jump around, have a great time, but these two idiots remind me of Sean Avery waving his stick in Martin Brodeurs face with his back turn away from the play. SMFH! Bring on the Canucks!! And kiss my ass Mr. Bettman. GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!

WCSF Game 6 GDT: Sharks 1 at Red Wings 3

Best believe Modano is going to give it 110% tonight! I'm also looking at YOU Filppula!! The boys know what this game 'may' mean in relation to Modano and Nik, so this should be the Wings we know. I'm actually quite relaxed right now. Also is it me, or damn don't the Sharks, from coach on down, look friggin' worried as opposed to the calm our boys are showing. Check out the pregame skate. Hahaha it's in the Sharks eyes ... they know they lose this one and boy oh boy are they in trouble. Gooooo WINGS!!

WCSF Game 6 GDT: Sharks 1 at Red Wings 3

Quite interesting to hear everybody outside Hockeytown, especially the tv talking heads, now ooking for a seat on the Detroit bandwagon. Pssssh whatever!!! It's either disrespect us or ignore us all year, so I don't trust any of them. They're trying to jinx us and we sure the hell don't need them!! Even Hockey Night in Canada featured about 45 seconds of Datsyuk highlights the other night. A FULL 45 seconds!! Hahaha. Out-hit. Out-hustle. And remember boys, it's us against the world. Nobody wants us here. "To whom much is given, much is expected!!!" Go Wings!!!

WCSF Game 5 GDT: Red Wings 4 at Sharks 3

The sign in the Wings dressing room says: "to whom much is given, much is expected." Quit talking about the fans who were pissed after Game 3. This team showed NOTHING up to that point - lucky bounces and s***ty refereeing aside. There was NO passion. NO competing. And NO desperation, which was shocking considering the makeup of this team is likely going to be much different next season. And this is HOCKEYTOWN. Just making the playoffs or winning a round is FAILURE. Nothing short of a Cup and the season will always be considered a failure. Personally, that's what makes this team/organization so special to me. While other fans shrug and say "oh well, we at least MADE the playoffs...." the Wings expectations are always, and rightfully so, much higher. Our awesome owner Mr Illitch is not a man to smile and say, "hey, great season guys, even if we lost in Round 1." Moving forward, there's much work left to do. The Wings are not a team the NHL cares about or a team that means much to the NHL when they win. It doesn't look good to see such dominance in this type of business. The refs, dare I say it, have let them "play" the past 2 games and that's been the difference. I'm still surprised they caller ORDINARY JOE THORTON for his dive, when they've been letting them get away with that s*** ALL YEAR!!! The Sharks, the Nucks, the Preds ... THESE are who the NHL wants to advance. So I hope we build on this win, and do even more next game, as our special teams are killing us - and we are not gonna see such calls if/when we get to a game 7. The Wings need to get back to that us vs. the world mentality that has been lacking. Just a bit better. Just a bit more hustle. Just a little quicker in those battles and we will soon get to the semis and 8 wins from OUR trophy!!! GO WINGS!!!!

400 Posts for a Sharks Win in Game 4

I get that you're joking around with the thread title, and I'm not trying to be an ass but this thread is not at all humorous. The Sharks haven't done s*** in this series, theyve gotten some very nice calls to help them - calls at very opportune times (because the amount of times shorthanded for each team isn't always indicative) and after last nights pathetic final, again this thread doesn't feel anything but wrong!! smfh

Question: Why do Wings fans hate the Canucks?

The Canucks were run by a piece of %^(*@ named Brian Burke - who I can't stand and who talks out his ass like his opinion on hockey is the only one that matters. And their current GM was/is a Burke student. Pul-leeeze!!! The hatred for Burke and his team carried over even after he left for Anaheim, plus some of those same players are still there. Also, players there - namely Kesler, Torres - walk around with such swagger, yet they are hockeys San Jose to the north. They've won nothing. And Luongo is a sieve, with an attitude [this coming from me - a big supporter a mere couple of years ago], yet he is still praised as the best in the game. Lastly, which is not entirely the teams fault, the absolute hype this team has been getting for the last few years is funny. They've never won a thing yet they are always talked about as the best team in the NHL - or close to it. San Jose, Pittsburgh, Washington ... I cannot and WILL NEVER support teams that get the exposure these guys do for winning NOTHING!! The Red Wings win Cups, make the playoffs every year, have 3 or 4 of the top 15 players in the world, one of the best coaches in all of hockey, but yet they are ignored time and again, called old and slow, even right after winning a Cup, like we heard in 2008. GO WINGS!!

    (2) San Jose Sharks vs. (3) Detroit Red Wings

The travel our team is forced to go through is a complete joke. Great!! We get to travel all the way to California, and if we move on, we are propbaly looking at travel to the other side of Canada vs. Vancouver!! SMMFH. I really hope Nashville pummels those clowns out in BC. The Wings are close to full health and very well rested so the only issue really is our special teams - especially the damn PK. If Babs hasn't straightened this out and if the Sharks continue their penchant for flopping and complaining, mixed with the usual NHL Joe Thorton-love fest and this series could get ugly. I guess it is positive that we play the Sharks and not the Canucks, because they are the 2009 Pens of this year - the NHL annointed favorite going into the playoffs. A Canadian team in the Final, and even better if they can win their first Cup. The Canucks won't go far without the usual NHL assistance, but that's for round 3. This series is either Detroit in a quick 5 or a long 7 gamer [with the refs help]. Over to you Babcock ... GO WINGS!!!

Red Wings MVP of Round 1

I hate players who cry, moan and *****! So i'm going to give my vote to Helm, and the way in which he frustrated the Coyotes and especially that big baby Jovo. Obviously Pavs led the charge on offence but Draper-in-waiting Helm was all over the ice, hustling, hitting and causing the Coyotes to peek over their shoulder when he was on the ice. On to Round 2!!! 12 W's to go!!!!!!!!!!!
