Too bad that'll never happen.
-
The coaches don't have say in that decision.
-
For what he's paid, Samuelsson does his job. He scores some goals and plays a solid 2-way game. Anyone expecting him to be a perfect, superstar player needs to put the pipe down.
-
McCarty is done. Thinking he can make it back to the Wings would be living in the past.
-
Downey is a borderline NHL player, but he plays a better all-around game than Ivanans. The point of acquiring someone at the trade deadline is to get somebody who could help or provide depth in the playoffs. Ivanans would spend most of the playoffs in the press box.
-
Why does everybody always think Doan is going to be traded? Its not gonna happen.
-
Ivanans would be useless for the playoffs. he's not good enough to crack the Wings lineup.

I love hockey and football about equally (maybe hockey a bit more). But the biggest day of college football of the year or an exhibition between two teams I have little interest in, I would definately have to pick football.
-
Horrible, horrible idea to have this on New Years Day. The only way I'd watch this over college football is if the Red Wings were in it.

I don't think there's any implication that Lidstrom will replace Holland. Most likely, If Holland decides to retire when Lidstrom retires, Holland will be moved up to a position similar to Jim Devallano's, Nill will be moved to GM and Yzerman will move to asst GM.

The Wings wouldn't have the cap space to resign Sundin.
-
Thats not allowed under the new CBA
-
Ask me again during the playoffs, and maybe I'll eat crow, but its certainly too early for me to do it now.
-
Yeah, too bad Hasek isn't quite as nice and classy as some of the other greats, polite, respectable citizens like Patrick Roy, Terry Sawchuck, and Ed Belfour
-
If it weren't for the fact that Chris Osgood is Hasek's backup, would you even care?
-
In my time on these boards, I have never seen a thread bashing Osgood. Now part of that may be due to the fact that Osgood has either been on another team or been backup since I've been a member of these boards. But I do know that Dom has been bashed on these boards since his failed comback with the Wings a few years ago, because I was one of the people critical of the move. Ozzie is far from the most bashed player on LGW. In fact I would say that he is one of the most popular players among the members of this forum, and definately has the most fervent following of any Wings players on LGW.
-
I have no personal preference towards either goalie, but Dom definately gets more hatred on LGW than Ozzie. There have been several threads dedicated to how horrible Dom is, while most recent Ozzie threads seem to be dedicated to the fact that he is the loyalist Red Wing ever and a great person (which certainly may be true) and is one of the elite goaltenders of the nineties and a surefire future hall of famer (which is only true among the posters of this message board).

Philly isn't gonna trade Jeff Carter for a checking forward.
-
It is possible that this is the year that Hasek can no longer keep up with the game, but that doesn't mean Osgood will be leading the Wings to the promised land. Ozzie has already passed the peak age for goalies, and was never elite in the first place. Ozzie's been great so far, but judging by his history, especially the last two years, he won't keep it out. Theres a reason that the Wings have brought back Hasek the last two years despite his age and known health problems.
-
Exactly. The getting into the HHOF is not like getting into Cooperstown. Stats are good, but perception and reputation is even more important. Chris Osgood is generally percieved as a solid goalie and a likable fellow. Nothing more than that.
-
You were probably thinking of the all star team, not the all star game. Osgood was named to the all star team (2nd team) only once in 95-96. In comparision, Tom Barraso was named an all-star 3 times, Beezer was named 2 times, Roy was named 6 times, Hasek was named 6 times, Belfour was named 3 times, and Brodeur was named 6 times
-
Detroit does not have the assets to aquire Sundin. The only way they could aquire him is if Sundin would only waive his ntc for the Wings.
-
Being a nice guy and having a lot of fans on LGW isn't something that will get Ozzie into the HHOF.
-
Ozzie is a second tier goaltender of his era, on par with Richter, Barasso, Vernon, Beezer, etc. He's not comparable to elite players like Roy, Hasek, and Brodeur.
-
He won't be in. He has some good stats, but he got them on stacked teams, and the HHOF isn't very stat-centric anyways.
