Since Dallas isn't planning on retaining Turco, they've given the Flyer permission to speak with Turco. If a contract is worked out before he gets ufa status, then Dallas could get a pick out of it or whatever.

Those Selke's certainly help. Due to spending several years in Russia, and then taking a couple years to develop into an elite player, Datsyuk's total numbers will look unimpressive compared to his contemporaries, but those Selkes will help offset that.
-
Maybe on Florida he played some top-line minutes, but he's never put up more than 62 points.
-
Decent return for Horton, but I'm surprised Florida didn't get more. Horton is exactly the type of player NHL GM's overvalue. Poor Florida, anytime they get a decent draft spot, they draft second-liners like Horton and Weiss.
-
I think Holland will go with another Downey/May type. Unless the Wings lose more of the their bottom-six then expected, there's no room for any enforcer that will be getting regular playing time.
-
The Wings wouldn't spend a first round pick on a player because he is "the toughest fighter". Why draft a guy for being a fighter when you can easily pick one off of waivers.
-
I'm surprised too. I thought Dino's chances would be hurt when Andreychuk became eligible. They are pretty similar players, except Andreychuk has a better reputation and has captained a team to a cup.
-
I've always been a Mike Modano fan, but he doesn't fill any significant needs for the team, which has a pretty full roster already. If he wasn't a Michigan native, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

I swear, Wayne Gretzky is the only player I've ever seen make smoother passes than Adam Oates.
-
I concur. While Horton plays with lesser plays, he does get to play a bigger part in the offense, therefore, usually an opportunity to generate more offense. You can talk about Horton's lack of good teammates, but compare his production to that of fellow draft-mates, Eric Staal and Thomas Vanek, who also ended up on teams that were bad at the time.

I put my money on Joe Nieuwendyk being the only first time eligible to get in. 3 cups, a Calder, a Conn Smythe, and he has a good reputation. Doug Gilmour will get in this time around as the HHOF can never let a former Leafs star wait too long. I bet Adam Oates will be last selection. No cups and no awards, but an excellent playmaker, and the former set-up man for Neely and Hull.

Franzen's a proven playoff performer. He also has only got top-line playing time in the last in recent years and his points total are low last year because of injury. You can say Horton plays with inferior players and that's certainly true, but he's also had more opportunities for top-line minutes but hasn't produced at a top-line level.

I don't think Flip the elder will make the Wings and it wouldn't surprise me if he never plays a game in the Winged-wheel, but I don't see what people are getting upset about. He's cheap, on a two way contract and will add some needed depth to Grand Rapids.
-
Anybody who's looking for the Wings to sign an enforcer who will play regularly will be sorely disappointed. If the Wings bring in an enforcer, it will be an Aaron Downey/Brad May situation where they shuttle the player between Detroit and Grand Rapids.
-
Horton's a decent player, but despite being young, he's been in the NHL for years and has yet to put up a significant number of points. I'd take a healthy Franzen over him.

I know having an one way or two way deal doesn't effect waiver eligibility for a player Maltby's age, but, due to his age, if Maltby is on a one way deal and sent down, he would still count against the cap due to the 35 and older rule. But if he's on two-way contract couldn't he be sent down (obviously having to clear waivers, which I think he would) and not count against the cap?
-
Umm, Atlanta is only 3 points out of a playoff spot.
-
Kovalchuk is not the type of player that can coexist with Lou and Lemaire long term, his rights will be traded at the draft.
-
Football season doesn't last that long in Detroit.
-
Its rumors from a Canadian paper, not really anything to take seriously. And from Modano's quotes, it sounds like he's leaning towards staying in Dallas if it comes to it.
-
Modano's played his whole career with the North Stars/Stars organization and he's won his cup, he's not going to ask for a trade.
-
It would be sad to see Yzerman leave, but it wouldn't suprise me. Holland is still pretty young, he could GM for a while, though I think he will give up the reigns to take the president's job once Jimmy D retires. Nill has had many oppurtunities to leave for another teaam, but hasn't, so you've got to think he's been promised the GM job.
-
Exactly!
-
He hasn't done that yet this year. Any times Osgood gotten hot and won back the starting job (which he has lost manny, many times), its because he's had to earn it. Osgood is no Broduer or Roy and he's getting older, the Wings can't just risk giving him the job if someone is playing better.

While the Wings will be drafting higher this year, they'll still be drafting too low to get a big guy who can score, those guys will go pretty fast. The Wings need a bonafide goal scorer, doesn't matter what country they're from or size they are.
