Would you take Ilya Kovalchuk if Lidstrom retires?
HenryMalredo replied to Miller Brew's topic in General
Kovalchuk will never hit free agency, and he certainly won't be coming to the Red Wings. -
We Should Have Gooned it Up These Last Two Games
HenryMalredo replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Those situations aren't even comparable. The Wings were playing a team where there were some actual animosity in the air, not just a team that happens to be in the same division, and fighting for a purpose (the way fighting in hockey should be done). oh yeah, and they actually won that game. -
We Should Have Gooned it Up These Last Two Games
HenryMalredo replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Gooning it up at the end of the game where the team is getting blown out doesn't send a message, it just makes the team look desperate and pathetic. -
Should the Wings Allow Players to Play in the Olympics?
HenryMalredo replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Not allowing players to play in the Olympics will greatly effect Detroit's ability to bring in new talent. With the salary cap, Detroit can't outspend other teams and while it has been the most consistent team in the post-lockout period, if this season continues the way it has, Detroit won't be able to hang on to the perception of it as an annual contender. Detroit's biggest advantage in attracting talent has been it's player friendly ownership and management. The Wings keeping their players at home while Yzerman and Babcock go off to Vancouver will look bad (and biased towards Canada as well). -
Should the Wings Allow Players to Play in the Olympics?
HenryMalredo replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Thats not going to send a good message if the team keeps Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Lidstrom, and Rafalski at home, while Yzerman and Babcock take off for Vancouver. -
Eh, I don't see it happening it anyways.
-
Agreed. Back before the blog was on KK, it used to be informative with a sarcastic edge, but nows it's just dumb.
-
Thats just a silly comparison. Brodeur's one of the best of all time.
-
Not a big fan of Jokinen, he hasn't been consistent the last few years. Kariya's been going down hill, but i could see him putting up points with Detroit. Plus, its team where Kariya can doesn't have to be a top dog, a roles which he seems to dislike taking. Anyone about to suggest Kovalchuck....................not gonna happen. The Wings don't have the cap space and he won't hit FA anyways.

Some of those guys who have "paid their dues" aren't really NHL material. Tatar is a promising offensive prospect, of which the Wings have few of. If the Wings need somebody to play minimal minutes on the fourth line or ride the bench, sure call up one of the career minor leaguers. but it sure would be nice to see what a guy like Tatar could do on one of the top two lines.

Lemieux was a big guy, but he never quite took advantage of his size like Lindros did.

I can see the US compete for a medal. Canada and Sweden are the only two teams that are significantly better. Russia's been getting too much love. Sure, Ovechkin and Malkin might be the two most talented players in hockey and Kovalchuck and Datsyuk are no slouches either, but beyond that, I'm not impressed. And Canada and Sweden are certainly not invincible (Switzerland and Belarus anyone?)
-
I wouldn't take him now, but he would've really helped the Wings immediately post-lockout when he he could've got some significant playing time, instead of being stuck on the third line like his one year here.
-
The 2002 team may have had flashier names, but honestly, I think the 2008 team was better.

Some of the blind Crsoby hatred on this board is a little out of hand. I'm no real fan of his, he's certainly not the best player in the league, and he's not even the best player on his team, but he's one of the best players in the league. He's not ever going to be the big time goal scorer that was hoped, but he's a great playmaker, the rest of his game gets better each year, and if his career continues at this rate, he will be a hhofer. And honestly, its not his fault he's overrated.

Hossa is one of the few players in the NHL right now who's skill is much higher than his cap hit.
-
Along with the fact that Prospal didn''t get along with Babcock in Anaheim, remember that Prospal had some of his best seasons under John Torterella in Tampa.
-
It could effect the Wings a little, but I don't think it will be a problem unless the Wings become absolutely terrible. Michigan's economy is in the toilet, and Detroit is an awful city, but the suburbs are nice, and the schools are top notch. As long as ownership and management still has a good reputation, players will still play, but I don't expect to see the discounts we've seen in the past.

Longtime Red Wings exec Jimmy Devellano credited as 'architect'
HenryMalredo replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
Also, as everyone seems to forgot, Yzerman's still behind Jim Nill on the depth chart. -
How the NJ Devils treated Brendan Shanahan...
HenryMalredo replied to interminded's topic in General
Lou Lamirello knows every salary cup loop-hole in the book. -
It's just talk. Quebec City and Winnipeg don't have the corporate support for an NHL team. Southern Ontario is the only Canadian market that could support another team.
-
It will probably take a while, but Federov's number will be retired at some point.
-
Knowing the Devils, Lou was probably gonna give Shanahan a one way ticket to the minors, and I'm guessing Shanahan didn't want to have things end that way.
-
Very suprised. I was always impressed by the job Kelly was doing, but who knows what was going on behind the scenes. The NHL blew their oppurtunity to crush the NHLPA in the last lockout, but if the NHL will finally crush them this time if they don't have a strong leader.

Red Wings player gets kicked out of bar tonight
HenryMalredo replied to martyrme19's topic in General
That was great. I remember seeing him get kicked out when I was in line for Dublins last night.
