If he's given a big offer sheet..........let him go. He's replacable. The Wings could use the extra picks either for drafting or to trade for someone else.
-
No, secondary scoring is more necessary than getting a top-liner. The Wings have a 1st line, it would not be very smart to pay Hossa or Sundin over $6 mill to play on the second line.
-
Naslund would be nice, but not at 4 million. Rolston or Sundin are not happening unless they both take discounts.
-
It's feasible to add the players the Wings need and sign a back-up. The only real need for the Wings is a d-man if Stuart leaves, and the Wings have made it clear that they won't spend over 3 million for that. Remember, the Wings aren't run by idiots, like the Leafs or Oilers. They won't pay anybody more than they're worth. A guy like Rolston isn't gonna sign with the Wings; they don't need him for the money he's asking. Bertuzzi's stock is low enough where I think the Wings could get him for the right price. I'm not that great with numbers, but I think the Wings could sign Stuart (or an equivilant), a cheap back-up, and a 2nd/3rd line player who could put up a moderate amount of points.
-
Hows that so? Just because the Wings have a lot a lot of cap space doesn't mean they have to spend it. The Wings don't need any first-tier players.
-
Thats a bit much to call him mentally unstable. I don't see why someone shouldn't get a second chance, just because they have some issues. Some people do happen to have anger issues, its not something they should be shunned for. The management in Ottawa (especially Bryan Murray) did nothing to help him out. The year when he was playing lights out and the Sens made the final, the team looked the other way when (allegedly) Emery and his buddies on the team were partying it up. I don't see why Emery wouldn't be able to revive his career with an organization that is more functional than the Sens.
-
Bourque had been acquired the year before. He played with Colorado the whole season in which he won the Cup.
-
Thats horrible reasoning. It took years for Cleary to put his problems behind him, it didn't happen over night. We haven't yet seen how Emery can be outside the Senators. Any hockey fan on the internet should have heard some of the stories about the division in the Ottawa locker room. It goes way beyond Emery. I don't see why a player like Emery can't turn it around like Cleary did.
-
Emery could be an intriguing option. It'll be nice if Howard pans out, but Emery could be quite the bargain if he can be kept under control. He would not have the same issues he had in Ottawa, as Babcock would run a much tighter shift than Bryan Murray. The Senators under Bryan Murray have had a lot of problems as he often turned a blind eye to the antics of Emery and his buddies as long as they were winning.

It would be great to have Rolston, but he would be too expensive for what the team needs. Theres little point to pay Rolston $4-5 million to be a 2nd or 3rd liner.

Lecavalier to sign new 9-year, $77-million deal
HenryMalredo replied to Systemfel's topic in General
It's a risk, but I don't see someone who is one of the best forwards in the league like Lecavalier having too much of a decline in his old age. -
Oh yeah, I love to see elite players fight (though I definitely do not consider Shane Doan in the same class as the rest of the players you mention). Unfortunately, its not something we get to see all to often. I'd rather see great players fight as, unlike many borderline players, they are actually fighting for a reason.

I wouldn't mind the Wings giving both Downey and McCarty 2-way contracts, but I don't see the necessity of having them both on the roster. Lets be honest, the whole "stick up for our players" argument is pretty weak, as thats never been the major problem for the Wings (at least it is not the problem that kept them from winning). The reason the Wings played better this year and played more physical is that they, as a team, had finally bought into Babcock's system, not that they had picked up more grit by osmosis from Downey and McCarty sitting in the press box. I guess there is still an argument that Downey and McCarty bring an entertainment factor to the game, but I also wonder how strong of an argument that is. Maybe its just me, but I find it boring watching AHL caliber players fight. Unfortunately, I don't see any returns to the old days, where guys like Gordie Howe and other legitimate, elite players would drop the gloves.

At least we won't have to ever hear those stupid Lecavalier to the Habs rumors. -
Honestly, I'd love to have Avery back on the Wings. He plays a good game and brings a great deal of energy to his team. Unfortunately, he is gonna get extremely overpaid.
-
Whats the point? Lose a bunch of draft picks for a good (but not elite) defenseman, when the team is already stuffed with defenseman.
-
I wouldn't be suprised if he gets paid up to $5 million per year on a 3 to 4 year contract. Every team is looking for a power forward in free agency (I don't know why, they never hit free agency). Ryan Malone is not a power forward, but he's physical support player that can score around 20 - 30 goals, so he'll get paid like one.
-
Not gonna happen. Malone is gonna get paid big by some team.
-
Suprised Phoenix traded Ballard. They had seemed to be pretty high on him since he came to Phoenix.
-
Woah, Jokinen to Phoenix for Ballard, Boynton, and a pick
-
It's a solid signing. I know this opinion isn't gonna be popular, as it is almost law to hate on the Preds on these boards, but Dave Poile might be the second best GM in the NHL.

Players you would trade the Wings 1st round pick for.
HenryMalredo replied to babygorilla's topic in General
I'm a fan, and I'd rather see the team win than trot out old players for the heck of it. Besides, does anyone really think that many extra people attended the games to see McCarty slowly plod down the ice? -
He's not one of the all-time greats, but he's certainly better than Glenn Anderson. I wouldn't of necessarilly picked him (Larionov was a lock, Adam Oates should've been a lock, and I would've picked Gilmour and Bure before Dino and Anderson), but he did score a lot of goals on teams like the North Stars and the Capitals.
-
It's a shame. Glen Anderson is a good player, but he's not as good as Dino, Oates, Bure, or Gilmour.

Watch as the HHOF skips over all these candidates and inducts a fourth liner from the '67 Leafs.
