We've seen some good goaltending performances in the last decade (Dom had his moments in 2002, and Osgood in 2008), but Cujo's play against Calgary was the best I've seen out of a Detroit goaltender in a decade.

Miller wouldn't sign in Detroit to share duties. Hes still young, he's not gonna split time.

Ottawa's coach shouldn't have been hired in the first place, he was a horrible choice for the Sens. As I said before, the Sens have chemistry issues beyond Emery, he just got blamed for everything because his problems were the most public. Emery was pretty much nowhere in sight when the Sens choked in the playoffs. The person who is most responsible for the Sens chemistry problems would have to be Bryan Murray, who choose to ignore the Sens locker room problems when they were winning.
-
Why would Miller come to Detroit to share duties?!

Any thoughts on who will be the next assistant coach?

Eh, I'm not fond of teams just giving these jobs to ex-players. The coaching staffs of Phoenix and Edmonton are filled with ex-Oilers and it hasn't done them any good. -
You can't just walk away when you're under contract.

Emery could probably do well on another team. He looked pretty solid the year before. He has his problems, but the Sens did nothing to help him and it seems that the lockeroom environment is one of the worst in the NHL, despite the talent. They ignored his problems when he was winning, but through him under the bus when he played poorly and the team choked in the playoffs.

I'm not saying the Wings should bring in CuJo necessarily, but it wouldn't hurt to have a veteran back up. Osgood isn't exactly known as a workhorse like Brodeur or Kiprusoff, but the Wings aren't gonna want to overwork Howard as backup.

Question: Will the Wings sign a big name free agent?
HenryMalredo replied to hckypete96's topic in General
No to Malone. He's gonna get massively overpaid. -
Linden and Chelios were on opposite sides. Linden made enemies in management by leading the PA during the lockout, while he made enemies with those currently in power in the PA by being one of Saskin's cronies. There's no way he'll ever be head of the union.

I don't see the point of paying a player $7 million to play on the second line (and anybody who thinks Hossa will take a mammoth pay cut to play for a contender is delusional). -
Who knows. Linden probably had made a lot of enemies when he was president of the Players Association.

No big name free agent will be signed. -
I'm pretty sure Liv and Koopmans are no longer Wings property.

Lidstrom and Osgood, do they get their numbers retired?
HenryMalredo replied to SFwingsfan's topic in General
Osgood could beat some of Sawchuck's team records, but stats aren't everything. Osgood will never be considered anywhere as good as Sawchuck. Also, for all the stats nuts here, the hockey hall of fame is not the most stat-friendly hall of fame. -

How are single teams wins records even this important? By this arguement he's better than Gump Worsley, Glenn Hall, and Dominik Hasek. Osgood is number 2 on the Wings list because of consistency and longevity on a great team, and the fact that the Wings have had crap in goal since Sawchuck left. -
His leadership is nice, but the Wings aren't really lacking in that department.

I like D-Mac, he had enough in the tank to make it back to Wings this season, but he still looked like a fringe NHLer when he plays. I'd rather see him go out a champ and do something for managment, than see him struggle through next season.

The Pens have a superstar first liner center with Crosby, and a future 2-way second line center in Staal. Malkin is a great player, but he's expendable for the sake of the team, as long as they get something good in return. Teams lacking star power, like maybe Phoenix, would probably be willing to give some good young players in return.
-
That would be awesome if he brought it to MSU. I work for the university, about a 5 minute walk from Munn Ice Arena. I could've easily went and saw it during my break, but I didn't hear about it till the next day.
-
Eva, you give NHL GMs too much credit. All those players will be drastically overpaid, especially Orpik and Malone.
-
While Downey seems like a quality guy, thankfully no one on the Wings would be insane enough to take him over Hudler.
-
Dump Malone and Orpik, they're replacable. Resign Hossa. In a few years, they'll probably have to trade Staal or Malkin, but that decision probably won't have to be made for another year.

Major role in 08 cup = schneider and bertuzzi

What Anaheim/Detroit rivalry? They play each other hard, and have had some good games against each other over the last few years, but I'm pretty sure this rivalry only exists in the heads of some people on this board.
