    List of Upcoming Free Agents

Man I should have known that this thread was going to turn into another let's lynch Holland thread. I just wanted to see what was out there on the market come the offseason since there wasn't much in the trade market. Looking at glance over the free agents there really isn't much out there either. With this new cap era, the horizon of the NHL has completely changed. No longer can a team like Detroit do what they did in the past (trade away the future for instant success year in and year out), unless you want another possible dead wings era to begin. The Wings can't just give up the farm to satisfy you fairweather fans for instant gratification. I am not surprised that Detroit didn't pick anything up in the way of a forward this year. There wasn't much on the market and what was out there was demanding a team's possibly giving up their future, ie Penguins. I don't think Holland imagined so many teams were not just possibly looking at a playoff spot this year, but have a realistic chance at getting in. There were way more buyers this year then sellers, which means the supplies didn't meet the demands at the trade deadline. Fedorov went to Washington probably because Columbus didn't want to trade within the division. While Columbus in a way has given up on the season, they didn't give up on it completely. They still have to play us another 4 times this seaon, which means they didn't want an ex-teammate possibly costing thema potential (although slim now) chance at the playoffs. Hossa went to the Penguins for an arm and a leg and then some, and there is also the possibility that he won't even re-sign with them after the season is over. Richards contract was too heavy to take in, especially if we want to lock Zetterberg and Cleary up for a long while. Don't be surprised if Detroit makes only one or two possible small depth signings this summer, especially if we re-sign Cleary, extend on Zetterberg, and sign this Brunnstrom kid (his contract won't be an issue so much as the bonuses will be).

Where Can I Go For Trade Info?

I was wondering what other sites would be very good for seeing the most up-to-date info on the trade deadline. I am asking in case there are too many people here and I am unable to connect to it. I know NHL.com would be a start, but I figure even they are a little slow for the most part in the information being passed along.

Cowan suspended 1 game for hit on Meech

Phaneuf is the new Pronger which means he will get away with a lot more, and the only a suspension will happen is if it is so blatant to the entire league that they have to suspend him. I've noticed nowhere else is there any mention of this hit, which I believe warrants a 1-3 game suspension myself.

    2/23 GDT: Canucks 4, Red Wings 1

Its funny how a slump can make even the best of fans look bad. I am not happy that are team is losing but considering the fact that are defense have played a total of 159 games in the NHL this season (126 of those come from Lebda and Lilja alone) makes me think that things are certainly going to get a lot better. And to take this a step further Meech/Quincey/Ericsson/Stafford have a whopping 55 career NHL games under there belt (barely over half a season amongst the 4 of them). Kronwall will be back Tuesday, Rafalski and Chelios probably soon there after and Lidstrom a couple of weeks away. We will also probably pick a d-man at the trade deadline with a bit of NHL experience. It is getting a little depressing to see the offense lack as much as they do but were also talking missing our #3-5 point producers (Lidstrom, Rafalski, Cleary). Lets look at the rest of the roster. 1. Zetterberg still looks slow to me as if he is still hampered by some sort of injury (though he looked very strong in the Colorado game after Lidstrom went down and people went after Zetterberg afterwards). 2. Datsyuk is struggling I think because he is trying to do it all by himself now because of the lack of scoring now. 3. Holmstrom really is struggling in large because Zetterberg and Datsyuk are and the fact that his biggest point producers on the point are out. 4. Hudler is showing signs that he is still young and immature by the fact that he is letting the point slump get to his head (though from what I have seen of late he's been one of the harder working players of late). 5. Filppula has seem invisible to me of late, might be the same as Hudler's problem. 6. Franzen is the new Draper, shut down man of the other team's top players, hard to score when you have to try to keep the puck out of the net. 7. Maltby never was a strong scorer to begin with and now with less ice time its even harder to produce. 8. Draper is the same as Maltby, except for that one big season he had (I really feel Draper is playing his way out of Detroit taking many bad penalties and just not the same as before). 9.Downey bought here to protect our team and provide some character not to put points on the board. 10. Drake wasn't sure why Detroit picked him up at the beginning of the season and still not sure what he is here for. 11. Kopecky still young and really here to just be a depth guy. (Really believe he could be a poor-man's version of Cleary. Solid player in his own end that doesn't make many mistakes, and has shown from time to time, rarely I admit, that he may have some offensive upside to him. Needs confidence and minutes to show his true ability at this level). 12. Samuelsson was great 2 years ago but has fallen off now. Good things don't necessarily make up for the bad things he does. Willing to shoot and doesn't back down and stands up for players time to time. Way too many turnovers, seems lazy at times and not the most efficient player in his own zone. 13. Hartigan hasn't been seen enough, although his stats in AHL aren't too bad considering lack of offense down there. The one game I saw of him he had good speed but tough to tell if he would help are recent scoring slump.

Hey celtic going to use that AK on Barcelona today. Barcelona 3 Celtic 0 To be serious a moment though today's UEFA games look pretty darn good. Barcelona/Celtic < Manchester U./Lyon Arsenal/Milan Don't know either of these teams that well though Fenerbahce/Sevilla
  10. As long as the ticket prices weren't to high and I was able to get to the game, I would love to see an EPL game. As a matter of fact, I would watch just about any of the top Euro leagues over the MLS anyday. MLS is pretty boring to watch, but the Euro leagues are great to watch. They have great teams with long standing traditions. The greatest players in the world that are still in their prime. The Euro leagues also have the greatest atmosphere to watch the games even on the television. I would love to see this happen, but I doubt it will and odds are the MLS will make sure it doesn't because if the EPL came over here it would show how much of a joke the MLS really is, and this would probably hurt what is already a small faction of this country that actually watches it.

    Greatest Sports Upsets Ever

My top 3 are: 1. 1969 Miracle Mets- This team had to make up huge ground on the Cubs in the last month to even get into the playoffs let alone win the World Series. Granted it was the Cubs, but still the Mets organization had been horrible to this point. 2. 1969 New York Jets- The AFL teams were no where the level of the NFL teams during the '60s, yet the Jets surprised the world when they beat the Colts in the Super Bowl. This would eventually help lead to the merger of the two leagues since it showed that the AFL could become quite the rival league. 3. 1980 "Miracle on Ice"- While this is one of the biggest upsets of all time, I don't consider it number 1. The Russians took easily the best player in the world out of the game after the 1st period. If Tretiak was still in the game, USA doesn't win end of story.

At least us Rangers fans are respectful polite type. Actually I wouldn't know I only picked the Rangers because they are Celtic's biggest rival . I'm off to research my new team now so I'll be back with tons of info on them in about a day or maybe a week hell just call it a month. However, good luck against Barcelona I do hear their name mentioned a fair bit.

    2/18 GDT: Red Wings 4, Avalanche 0

Nooo Ozzie's starting. Just kidding hopefully he can bounce back from the slump he's been in and at the same time break the Wings out of theirs. Although i still wouldn't mind seeing Howard starting again, he played well yesterday. Prediction: Detroit 3 (Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kopecky) Colorado 1 (Hejduk)
