    Kovalchuk traded to New Jersey

Considering the Wings spot in the standings I'd rather have him here or sent to the Eastern Conference and not to a contender e.g. LA

    Kovalchuk traded to New Jersey

Maybe Datsyuk can give Kovy some Detroit Kool-Aid in Vancouver. The best part is Datsyuk can woo Kovy in Russian, he doesn't even have to attempt to speak English.

    Kovalchuk traded to New Jersey

I'm sure that'd be at least 1 million over the cap. The only feasible way Detroit can get Kovalchuk and fitting him, Lilja and Mule under the cap is by trading Kronwall and Flip and Williams and [insert player here].

    Kovalchuk traded to New Jersey

But with names like Filppula and Kronwall thrown around that takes up 6 million of Kovy's contract only leaving 300andsomechange left to cover. The only reason why they brought in Williams was for a right handed shot, no? Don't need that with Kovalchuk on the team. See if someone would take the bait on Williams, don't think anyone would, but a possible three team trade? That's another 1.5 and you could then bring Abdlekader back up.

    Kovalchuk traded to New Jersey

I'd put Kovy on the point. He's murder from the high slot with his slap shot. Datysuk - Zetterberg - Homer Kovy - Lidstrom Kovy's a righty and putting Lidstrom on RD means no more switching off. If LA is the front-runner then I say throw all the names mentioned in this thread to Waddell. IMO the Wings need Kovy more than LA does. At that point it's just for the sake of having him on your team and not the other, who is 7 points ahead of you.

    Joe Louis the crumbling arena

While moving them to the Palace for a short stint would probably bring in more revenue from ticket sales you don't take hockey away from Hockeytown for any period of time. I quite enjoy being able to drive 5-10 minutes to the Joe and get $15 student rush tickets and would be extremerly pissed if I wasn't able to do that but rather drive 45 minutes to get to a game. Not that my opinion matters to Mr. Illitch. That being said, if a new arena is built my two requests is they have an honorary troft in one of the mens bathrooms to pee in. That's part of the experience of going to the game! And don't change the name, keep it Joe Louis Arena please. I can only imagine saying "I'm going to the Joe" and not "I'm going to *insert company name here*."
  7. I'd wait until after this road trip to do it if the Wings want any shot at getting points away from Pittsburgh, San Jose, Anaheim and LA.

    Lilja Potentially Close to Returning?

I didn't say whether or not I agree or disagree with Mickey's statement but rather I can see Jack Johnson in a winged wheel uniform before Lilja. But please continue on pretending to know what another human being is thinking. For all I know you could be Mel Gibson in "What Woman Want," except with men. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...and_says_2.html That's a pretty good argument. You can speculate that he is downplaying it all you want, simple fact is Mr. Holland > Mickey in terms of what's going on within the organization.

    Lilja Potentially Close to Returning?

I'd be more inclined to believe Jack Johnson will be playing for Detroit before Lilja does. And for the 'wtfcakes he ment lilja, ur wrong lolz' people; YOU don't know what he meant to say. Only Mickey does, and trying to figure out what's going on in Mickey's head would be tougher than finding a needle in a haystack.

"We don't have a natural goal scorer"

They had 42 shots last game, two posts and a goal that was disallowed. I was at the game, I didn't hear a whistle. Neither did the (insert number here) other fans chanting bulls***. It's true they don't have a natural goal scorer (hello Ilya) but the offense isn't as stagnant as people believe. It's more or less the fact that their powerplay has been downright pitiful lately. They try to force it down low when nothing is there. It's proven to work before; Ralfalski and Lids switch off, Ralf feeds him, Homer screens, puck goes in the net. Why they don't try it more often then trying to force a cross crease pass down low, who knows. Even on the 5-3 they are trying to force it low. Set up Lids or another forward in the high slot and feed him a one-timer.

With cap room next season, what is our priority?

    Offense: Holmstrom (1) - Datsyuk (6.7) - Kovalchuk (6) Franzen (3.955) - Zetterberg (6.093) - Cleary (2.8) Leino (.8) - Filppula (3) - Helm (.750) Abdelkader (.850) - Draper (1.583) - Miller (.525) May (.500) Defense: Lidstrom (4.25) - Ralfaski (6) Stuart (3.75) - Kronwall (3) Kindl (.883) - Ericsson (.9) *stay at home* (.500) Goalies: Osgood (1.42) Howard (.72) ROSTER SIZE 22 SALARY CAP $56,800,000 PAYROLL $55,962,876 CAP SPACE $837,124 Won't happen, so don't get excited. But wouldn't it be exciting to see Kovalchuk in a winged wheel jersey?

    Kane,Toews and Keith re-signed

    A) I love that your mother still breast feeds you, I sorta dig that. And I won't judge. Rock on brother. B) The Montreal Canadiens and the Detroit Cougars / Falcons / Red Wings OR Toronto Maple Leafs have been rivals since the beginning of time. The Habs and Leafs rivalry taking the cake. C) Correct, the Wings have 4 Stanley Cups in 12 years. This number is greater than what Chicago has in 83 years. I don't quite think you can create a rivalry out of that, other than out of thin air in imagination land. Once the Hawks get to double-digits or are competitive for more than one year, we can rivalry it up. Until then, troll on!

    Kane,Toews and Keith re-signed

Absolutely. If I were to see The Turtle walking down the street I don't think I would hesitate to jump him and proclaim my victory in honor of Kris Draper. There was actual ill will towards the Avs, and it made the games infinitely times more significant and entertaining. That's why I said I think Anaheim would be the closest. I freaking hate the Ducks but I respect the way they play and despite how much they scare me, look forward to watching the two teams play. The Avs. There was no respect there. Except for Sakic, he was a hell of a player and is a hell of a guy. Agreed. The Hawks better hope they can dress a team that is deep enough to beat the New Jesery Nets before their fans start spewing out nonsense. Yea, two different sports, but the Nets are God awful and I thought it was appropriate analogy for the depth issues the Hawks are going to be facing.

    Kane,Toews and Keith re-signed

For the sole reason that Kane and Toews are 8 years younger than Hank and 10 years younger than Datsyuk I'd probably take them. Not saying Hank and Datysuk are past their prime or anything. Just hard to argue with an age difference that drastic. As to this Chicago - Detroit rivalry bull. There isn't one. IF the Wings were to have a rival it'd be Anaheim. Hell, I'd argue that Pittsburgh is more of a rival than Chicago.

Chicago chants "Detroit Sucks" when Hawks play other teams?

http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=61642 I would also like some credible links proving that the whole country knows we are the worst fans.

Strengths and Weaknesses/Best and Worst Players

Weakness: The Chicago Blackhawks fan base thinks they have a "rivalry" with the Detroit Red Wings Strength: The Detroit Red Wings fan base is too smart to cave into such claims when in all reality we hate the Anaheim Mighty Ducks of Los Angeles of California of Orange County of Laguna Beach / The Hills or whatever those California teams are calling themselves which is our true rivalry. Best players: Matt Worst players: Scott Lucidi

    Yahoo! Power Rankings

I'd argue Chicago is better on paper, which is why they are #2 in this ranking. However the Red Wings system/style of play is ahead of everyone else. One that usually prevails in the playoffs, which is all that matters.

    Patrick Kane Arrested

When Kane signs here next year we won't have to worry about any stories like this because there is no way in hell a 5'8'' 160 lb white kid will try to beat up / rob / whatever a Detroit cabbie. At least a smart one won't.

Who will score more points next year?

I played Junior A as a goalie, including against Petr Sykora, does this make me more qualified than you? Judging by your brilliant logic it does, so listen carefully, as you may not argue because my vast hockey intelligence dwarfs yours. Filpulla is a jack of all trades player, does nothing exceptional but does everything well. It's unfortunate for the Filpulla fan base that he scored the infamous "Bobby Orr" (I hate calling it that because it's not even close to being on the same level as Bobby Orr's goal, it won a Stanley Cup) goal, it gave them some warped sense that he is the second coming of Wayne Gretzky in terms of scoring when it's simply not the case. Filpulla has excellent hands but an offensive awareness that rivals that of the nimrods that can't win on Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader. Filpulla can only wish that he had Hudler's shot and offensive awareness; Hudler had 17 more points than Filpulla despite averaging nearly three minutes less atoi and he didn't even get 60 points. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Filpulla being a second line center who I'm pegging as a 40-50 point guy and one of our better defensive forwards, I'll gladly take that. He may have a career year where he gets close to or hits 60 points but if Hudler can't do it while playing a ton less than Filpulla and with worse linemates I'm doubting Filpulla can easily obtain it as so many people would lead you to believe.

NHL'S Top 10 most likely breakout players

They get paid to do that, you don't. Forgive him if he's going to believe professional journalists / scouts over you. There is nothing wrong with him being a second line center that has a ceiling of, and I'll be generous, 65 points. Absolutely nothing wrong. I've said all along he's a jack of all trades guy, he does nothing exceptional but he does everything well. He may be able to crack a first line center on a sub .500 team, no doubt about that. But he definitely won't be seeing any first line center time on this team with Datsyuk and Hank leading the way.

Shoulda went with an "adviser" from the 48230 and not the 236.
