    Massive brawl

Anytime I watch goalies fight I compare it to the Vernon/Roy fight and conclude that any other goalie fight sucks

Osgood Named to West All-Star Team

Good for Ozzie. I especially like how he takes it like a grain of salt. Although I'd be inclined to think that most all the players are like that.

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

Based on the fact that he would have better stats than Hasek FOR THE WHOLE SEASON, assuming they both finish out the way they are playing. OH WAIT. THE FIRST TWO MONTHS DON'T COUNT FOR HASEK DO THEY. LET'S IGNORE THE FACT THAT OSGOOD'S STATS WOULD BE BETTER FROM DAY 1 TO THE END. Again, everyone sees this. Except for you. Imisssergei made it even more clear, which is much appreciated. Why you continue to insist that you aren't missing or ignoring anything when clearly you are I can't figure out. I don't know why I or anyone bothers.

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

He's not head and above shoulders better than Dom. But if you compare their seasons Osgood has performed better. It's always going to be hard to judge 100% what Hasek does. Because people always find an excuse for him. Bad October, bad November, team didn't play well, he only saw like 15 shots. It can go on. He's paid to stop the puck. I expect him to do that throughout the whole season. Someone else has.

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

And that means Osgood will have been playing amazing hockey for how many months. Like 7? And it would actually be better hockey. But Hasek gets the nod instead. Hasek's stats would be amazing. But not as good as Osgood's. So how does that not come down to the fact that his name is Hasek. I don't get how you don't get this. It's not that hard. Everyone else seems to get it. Except you.

    My vote is for ignoring.

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

I've come to the conclusion that it is useless. No matter what, Packer will automatically go to the 75% of the games Hasek played. Yet he won't make a case for Osgood. He will, by default and fanboyism, go to Hasek's 75% of the games he played and simply say that Hasek should be in net. Because now he is playing just as good as OSGOOD. And you wonder why I say Hasek will be in net in the playoffs because his name is Dominik Hasek and everything that is associated with it. Yes, as of the last whoever many starts he has been solid, nobody can argue that. But Osgood has been better the whole season. I'll break it down easy. Osgood has arguably been the best goalie in the NHL so far. Hasek has kept up 75% of the time. So. Hasek should be in net.

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

One can maintain a respectable GAA while having a sub .900 SV% i.e. Dominik Hasek or Turco because they face so few shots. Last time I heard. Anything hovering around 2 or 2.5 is a respectable number for GAA, especially in the "new" NHL. Anything under .900 for SV%. Ehhhhhhhh, not quite. I would be willing to bet that doesn't quite cut it So I'm sorta inclined to look at the percentage of shots a goalie stops rather than the average amount of goals he lets in. Where you were trying to go with that, I dunno

    Datsyuk for Selke?

I'd argue that a decent part of Datsyuk's turnovers come from the offensive end. Don't want to take anything away from his play at the other end however. He's backchecking better than ever.

    1/8 GDT: Red Wings 1, Avalanche 0

I like the part when the announcer said he didn't want to jinx the shutout...yet he, or his partner, said shutout like at the 3 minute mark prior. Tighter game than what I thought it was going to be. Nice to see them pull it out.

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

I'm wondering why it doesn't surprise me that you go to U of M. But stats still indicate that Osgood has been better. And two can play that game. If Osgood keeps up his performance he has played better than Hasek the whole season. And his stats would be marginally better most likely. So what then? I know where you stand. Even though Osgood would have better stats than Hasek, Hasek would have somewhat similar stats (dismissing October and November (which he was horrific) and all his bad starts, obviously, so really it's like 1/2) you would want him to start simply because you like him better. I have no problem with Dom starting. He's playing much better in the last month. I just feel that Osgood has been the more consistent, better goaltender, who happens to lead the league in GAA and SV% and he's done it the whole season. So he should get the nod. Don't look at the GAA, look at the SV%. On a team like Detroit GAA is going to be padded.

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

Good God you both are impossible to talk to. What's Osgood's stats again? Even better than Hasek? Oh yea. They ARE. WHY THE HELL CAN'T YOU ADMIT THAT OSGOOD HAS BEEN BETTER FOR THE WHOLE SEASON? Are you that proud? Really? Are you? Everything points to Osgood playing better this season. Record. Stats. Everything. So yes. Hasek would be starting because his name is Hasek and everything that is associated with his name. Again, I wouldn't complain. I would just think it's bs that you have a goalie who, throughout the whole season has proved that he has been the better goalie, would be getting shafted because anything negative towards Hasek IS simply dismissed.

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

It will be because of his name. I really don't see either goalie cooling off anytime soon. SO one is named Osgood and the other is Hasek. What name do you think they will go with? EVEN if Osgood is playing better, which he is, they will still go with Hasek despite Osgood playing better because he's Hasek. It's certainly not a bad thing, but it's bs considering how Osgood has played [better] game in and game out. You say all that matters is that who is playing better right now, yet you referred to the past in every paragraph past the one above.

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

So you aren't disagreeing that Ozzie is better in all those categories and statistically? And it's been a LONG time since the Wings have had success in the playoffs. Keep in mind what success is in Detroit. It's great that Hasek has been playing great lately. But Osgood has been playing greater since the beginning of the season. So 19-2-1 and the leader in gaa and sv% doesn't do anything for you? Hasek gets respect. But look at Ozzie's stats for the whole season. I just find it somewhat silly to say that Hasek is equally as good or better than Osgood this year.

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

Just as people are way to quick to say that almost every save is spectacular. Well, let's see. Just going going on observations. Osgood is quicker side-to-side, recovering, controlling rebounds, more sound, handles the puck 802346087234 x better, anticipates better. He's playing the best hockey of his life and he's going to get shafted because of Hasek's name. Sorry if I'm not sold on Hasek or tandeming them. Hasek is playing well yes, but Osgood is simply better this year. Obviously his play and stats back that up. It's not like Osgood knows what it takes to win the cup. And does anyone else find that the team is more confident with Osgood in net? I'm just happy that Osgood has accepted his role and is happy with it.

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

I wouldn't go as to far to say the best two. The best goalie, yes. Hasek stops pucks he should, and really hasn't stolen a game (New Years he played great however) and all of a sudden he's back to the savior of the team. Exactly why he will be starting in the playoffs. Except for the fact that Osgood is playing at a level Hasek will not get to this year.

Should We Alternate Goalies in the Playoffs?

Osgood will get the shaft come playoff time. Hasek will be the #1 solely because of his name. Because if it were based on performance everyone knows who would be in net.

    1/6 GTD: Red Wings 3, Blackhawks 1

Watching these Chicago games sucks, feel like they are never out of it as they have the Wings number, well sort of now. Already looking ahead to the Ottawa game seeing as it may be the most important one as it very well could be the Finals matchup and especially to shut the Ottawa crybabys up. Hasek would be scheduled to play...you go with Ozzie or Hasek?

    1/5 GDT: Red Wings 3, Stars 0

Hasek gave up a TON of net on that one. Made the save though.

Wow...if you add all the MVP votes up I think you still don't get as many as Ozzie has

Except he was in the whatever shape you want to call it area, we'll just call it the goalie area, so you can't hit him.

    Midseason grades

Fixed. He played well at New Years but other than that they have never really had to count on him. I said it in the GDT I can't wait for Osgood to get the shaft come playoff time. Fixed. How do you not give this man an A+? 18-2-1 and leading the league in SV% and GAA. Speaks for itself. He very well could be the best goaltender in hockey right now. It's a shame he's going to see little if no time in the playoffs. I've tried to reserve judgment on both goalies but every game Ozzie plays he keeps proving that he is at a level Hasek will not be able to get to this year. Ozzie is quicker, more fundamentally sound, challeneges better, makes better decisions, controls his rebounds a ton better. He's simply a better goalie.
  25. Looks like Maxiell lost a ton of weight. Been focusing on the Wings as of late so haven't really watched too many games from start to finish. But imo, the stones are the team to beat in the East. Boston hasn't proved anything untill they do something in the playoffs. And if they lose in the playoffs I know there is already an excuse lined up that they have never played in the playoffs together.
