    Dom in net vs. Minnesota

The wars that will be started here, although they can get entertaining Having two hot goalies is sort of a double-edged sword really. And personally, although the playoffs are far away and there is still a lot of hockey to be played, I sorta want an established #1 going into the playoffs. I feel having two hot goaltenders going into them is going to pose too many questions. BUT. I'm a fan and not part of the team and if they have confidence in both goaltenders going in that's not a bad thing.

I saw one...and it was the right pad save he made from point blank. That's just me though.

It's not, it's going to make going to the games even better. I actually didn't go to any games last year because two years ago I went to like 15 and they lost everyone. Family and my friends pretty much banished me from CoPa. And damned if I was going to try to go to one of the playoff games. I guess I am a wait and groom the top picks and when they are ready bring them up to the ML kinda guy. I guess I would have liked this deal a whole lot better if Miller wasn't involved. Question (because I am too lazy to look it up right now): Did Leyland coach the D-Train when he was with Florida?

Osgood in net for Phoenix; Hasek in net for Montreal

That's true. Sorta feel that I heard "Hasek is a notorious slow starter" to fill me for the next year. Not so much on Ozzie. And I feel it's two separate accounts of living in the past. On one hand you have people saying that Hasek always starts off slow to back up his HORRENDOUS play. On the other you have people questioning if Ozzie can win a cup so people say that he won a cup in 98 so he can do it again to back up his STELLAR play. Two different things imo. I would rather much hear the latter.

I really feel you, and most people in this thread, really have no idea how important farm teams are in baseball. You can't just go out and rely on getting top-end free agents every year. Their player salary is not going to allow that. No s*** the farm team isn't going to win the World Series. They already had the best line-up in baseball. If they play like they should, prior to this trade, they make it to the World Series with the team they had last year. Almost every single analyst pretty much had them penciled in as the WS champs at the all-star break. But, as we all know, Detroit decided to play liks a**holes for the rest of the season. So I guess he has proven squat in the minors then right? Check your fukin stats buddy. Maybin is 20 years old (and has the same birthday as me, kick ass) and at least 2 years away from being ml ready and they brought him up way to fast for the stint he had here. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/stats...r.php?id=457727 Wow. He has proven squat man. Geez, 1.588 OPS. WOW HE BLOWS. His .932 OPS sucks too. As I said before, top picks in baseball rarely turn out to be busts. This isn't the NFL riddled with Ryan Leafs and Joey Harringtons and Charles Rogers'. I know it sounds like I am complaining now but I'm not. They are probably the outright favorites to make it to the WS for the next few years. After that though, then I will start complaining when they are scratching their heads wondering who they can pluck out of the farm system. OH WAIT. NOBODY. Tigers won't have a draft pick higher than 25-30 for the next few years.

By RWF I meant RedWingsForever. Sorry for the confusion. And it's not uncertainty in Maybin and Miller. High draft picks in baseball don't turn out to be busts. This isn't football. Scouting in baseball is unlike any other sport out there. Unless it's the Wings. That is the only exception.
  9. I'm so glad I didn't jump on the bandwaggon. I hope Roy and KJ get out of here. And Calvin for that matter. There is way too much talent on the roster for them to be stranded here. The Lions will always be the red-headed step-child of Detroit (no offense to any red-headed step-children here).

I read it wrong. Sorry. And they are much older. 3-4 years older and that is A LOT in baseball. 3-4 years means 3-4 years in the minors honing their skills. And what are you basing your claim of them never being all stars on, along with RWF?

We officially have NO FARM team(s) whatsoever. I'll eat my crow but when Maybin wins several gold gloves and batting titles I'll know where to come to boast. I would go as far as to say that Miller could win a Cy Young but I won't. He could though. Mid to high 90's fastball and two soon to be nasty breaking balls. Oh, and he's left handed. I'm just going to add that the win now theory blows. You already have a team that, if they play like they SHOULD, could easily be in the WS. Why you don't sit on two authentic studs and a good farm team and wait it out I question.

You just stated the obvious, thanks. You just said that Maybin and MIller won't be stars for a few years and that Cabrera and Willis are older and that they are huge improvements on what we gave up. THAT MAY BE THE CASE NOW. We won't know if they are huge improvements for another couple years when all of them are in their prime (and when Maybin and Miller are ML ready). As I said I may be the lone ranger but this may come back and bite them in the ass a couple years down the road. Especially when you can start converting Maybin to play right once Mags (who is 33) starts to fade out (which will be in a couple years).

    12/4 GDT: Red Wings 4, Canadiens 1

My only one complaint is the goal Hasek let in. He had plenty of time to re-establish position to make the save. Whhaaaaaa....it wouldn't be right complaining about something Hasek (or Osgood) didn't do

I may be the lone ranger on this one but I don't like the idea of losing maybin and miller. I feel there is way too much upside for both of them. I'm certainly not going to complain though. We need someone at third that can drive in runs. You may throw at me that maybin didn't do well this year at the ml level. But, granted it's just a simulation (THE BEST one around though) I run 3 franchises at whatifsports.com for the hardball dynasty and I can assure you that it's not common to call someone up from AA to the ML level. You treat talent like that like it's a baby.

Osgood in net for Phoenix; Hasek in net for Montreal

Giving him the start today? No. Claiming that he is still the #1? Yes. I would just hate to see Osgood get the boot come playoff time because they are banking on Hasek's past accolades. It's great if Hasek turns it around but, at the same time, how do you determine whether or not he is playing better than Ozzie? Again, his past accolades? Keep playing Ozzie and racking up the W's so when they have a comfortable lead to remain the top seed Hasek can do more than just spot start. So what if he pisses and moans. After the groin debacle I really don't see how his say means anything.

Anyone notice that the Hasek people like to live in the past...

Ozzie is playing better than he did in 97-98 and people still doubt he can win a cup...

    Playmaking Goaltenders

On the flip side, having a goalie that can go high and off the glass hard helps a ton too. I love playing the puck, especially when I can rifle it off the glass.

True. They live in Ohio so I gueeesss we have to cut them some slack. (not really). At the same time I can see myself living in the city such as Chi-town and NYC but at the same time nothing would make me happier than chopping my own fire wood in my backyard but you gotta give Chi-town a shot at least. Chicago is a fun time.

    Rant From a Flames fan

I'm glad people feel the same way I do. I used to believe that hockey was the toughest and hardest sport to play. But at this point I just feel that it's the hardest. There really isn't anything tough about the NHL anymore. And the crazy thing is, fighting is up this year. It's almost hard to believe. We've gotten a couple fights from Drake (my last name is Drake and it DOES NOT get old hearing your last name said on tv during a wings game) and Downey but outside of that...really nothing. I rented NHL 08 for PS3 the other day and it took me so long to get used to it because I just tried railing everyone into the boards. It sucked.

Ugh. One of my friends is from Cleveland and when they eliminated the Stones I don't think I talked to her for at least a week. We don't mess around with sports here in Michigan. I really hope I can get to Japan before I expire. Paris would be nice too. I took four years of French but I am quite sure they would not be able to understand anything I say lol

Really? I'm about as east as you can get (saint clair shores) and I love going to the west side and the grap. My cousin went to Aquinas for 3 years and I couldn't wait to visit him. It's like a whole different country compared to the east side. And I can assure you traffic is not as bad as it is in southeast michigan. You would like Chicago, you can take the train everywhere.
