Jay Mohr the actor? I don't think it was him. It's something like Andrew Sicilliano would say, but I don't know for sure. He's said something like that on his night show before. I e-mailed him about it last fall.

Phelps is easily the best athlete ever! I was reading the USAToday today and some writer mentioned Michael Jordan because he was a two-sport athlete. That's not a strong argument, because Jordan sucked at baseball. SUCKED! Seriously he shouldn't even have been in AA ball. If people want to use two-sport athletes use Bo Jackson or Deion Sanders, but please leave Jordan out of it.

The big conversion happens this season. HD rocks! Almost as much as Versus.

This has to be one of the best Summer Olympics I can remember.
-
Newsflash! NBC is changing it's call letters to MPC - Michael Phelps Channel.

Was watching the Games at a bar last night. When the Phelps race came on the bartender turned down the music and turned up the TV sound. When Phelps won the bar went crazy! Nobody was drunk enough to buy us all a round.

Versus rocks! I love me some Versus NHL coverage. I'd like to see games on more nights, like Sunday through Saturday, throughout the season.

Makes me happy. Is Mac on board yet?

I'm hoping for an all U.S. final in the women's beach volleyball.

Yes. I think they're lying. Most of the Chinese girls look like pre-teens to me. The American women might've only won silver, but at least they look feminine instead of stick-like.

Phelps is a machine! Kudos to Coughlin too.

The women's gymnastics is rockin. Lookin forward to the swimming too. As much as I love watching the gymnastics, the judging of it is what I don't like.

Residual effect from Gretzky trade still felt today
auxlepli replied to #19=Legend's topic in General
In my opinion this is a better article about the trade. Still it's littered with illogical conclusions. Really? Chicago, Philadelphia and New York don't mean anything? There were only two places to go at that time - south and west - and both are non-traditional. -
I'm really digging the beach volleyball. Earlier the NBC-owned networks were broadcasting basketball, football and water polo. All are basically the same game - just different surfaces and number of players.

Residual effect from Gretzky trade still felt today

I've never bought the argument the Gretzky trade brought NHL teams to Sunbelt cities. Atlanta had a team years before Gretzky was even a professional hockey player. Atlanta embraced the Flames, and later the IHL Knights, which won a championship there. The Flames failed because the owner failed. It had nothing to do at all with the box office draw. -
I love the Olympic theme. John Williams wrote that too. Another of many memorable themes he's written, where Danny Elfman has one.

eva unit zero is right. -
The lighting of the cauldron was unbelievable. Costas raved about it, but I have yet to see any thing as spectacular as Barcelona's.

Well I read Babcock bounced ideas of Bowman the last couple of years. So Bowman helped there. To say people's worries are misplaced is a bit extreme in my opinion.

His obvious love of and favoritism toward Brian Burke is enough for me to hate him. Yet there's so many more reasons .... Conference, division name changes. Safety net installation. His immeasurable duplicity. ... to name just a few more.

Doc is pretty good in my opinion, but I like Gary Thorne better too. Bill Clement and Thorne were a good tandem.

Wow, that's lameness. Oh wait it's ESPNess. To be expected.

So, what was the verdict?

While I don't think just IndyCars should race at IMS, I doubt I'll ever go to anything other than the 500 there. I had free tickets to yesterday's race, and didn't go. I heard about the tire issue and the plan to have competition yellows, and said to myself, "that sounds like a goat rope." So yeah that and other reasons are why I didn't go. NASCAR seems more political than it use to be, but keep in mind I'm posting as a very, very casual fan of that series. Some people have said that IMS is fault because officials there diamond grind the track. That's hard for me to stomach. 1 - Goodyear has had tire issues earlier this season. Tony Stewart mentioned this. 2 - NASCAR teams had an opportunity to test cars prior to the race.
