    NHL and the IRL

The Edmonton Oilers are sponsoring Graham Rahal's car in the Indy Car race this weekend. Unfortunately he's already out ot the race. Surprisingly enough the ESPN announcers mentioned the NHL Oilers. I am truly surprised. At the Nashville race a couple of weeks ago, Dan Ellis of the Predators was the grand marshal. It's cool to see that cross promotion.

    NHL and the IRL

OK, so Rahal came back, but now he's definitely out for good. Again the announcer, Bob Jenkins, mentions the Oilers and the NHL. So he's not a regular ESPN announcer and I guess that's why he's all about mentioning the NHL and Oilers. Leave it to a Hoosier to do the right thing.

The Rockies were the NL champs last year.

    Teams Nobody Cares About

If this were an ESPN poll the bottom 20 would be all NHL teams.

    Teams Nobody Cares About

The Bruins' low rank doesn't surprise me. Sox, Celtics, and Patriots all recent champions in their respective leagues. The Bruins easily fourth in New England market.

    Rafael Nadal wins Wimbledon

That was a great match. I remember watching the McEnroe - Borg matches when I was a kid. This one compared to those. Truly outstanding tennis.

    2008 Summer Olympics

Yes I will watch. I love Bob Costas. I'm most looking forward to watching diving, swimming and women's gymnastics. So I voted Other in that category. And I think China will win the most medals and the most gold medals.
  10. Oh great PC'ness has entered the realm of cheering for a sports team. "Wah! Don't boo former players who come back. People who boo are knuckleheads." Calling those fans names is just as childish. "Oh my ears and sensiblities have been offended because a county commishener hundreds of miles away used the word 'sucks!' to describe my home city." Gimme a break!
  11. That's hilarious! You guys expect him to to do something different? You guys post as if everybody in the world should cheer for the Wings.

    Watch Winter Classic Press Conference

Well this Winter Classic thing and the prese conference were also in Chicago. So naturally I'd think there would be more a Windy City slant.

A Pittsburgh columnist with a clue

In all three cases - Jagr, Fedorov, and Hossa - the fans have the right to boo them when they come back. I feel the fans' pain. Not everybody likes to turn the other cheek. Some people believe in the eye-for-an-eye system. In my opinion it's cathartic for fans to boo. They feel betrayed; why not let them vent? There's no harm in it. Calling those fans who chose to do so knuckleheads is knuckleheaded in my opinion.

More proof ESPN doesn't even watch hockey

In American football, arguably the states' most popular sport, it's hard to see the ball when: it's under the center, as he hands it off to the QB, as he hands it off to the RB or if the QB has it tucked in his gut as he drops back to pass. When he passes it I can see it, but when the receiver catches it, I can't see it. There's only about three times I can see the ball: when it's passed, when it's kicked and when it's fumbled. People who complain that can't see the puck are ignorant of the game of hockey.

    Titletown USA

In my opinion, so is ESPN. Oh wait this whole title town thing stemmed from ESPN. Figures.

More proof ESPN doesn't even watch hockey

I don't think Jim Rome would have done this. It's one reason why I like Rome. He's a blowhard at times, but at least he's entertaining. Rome also has hockey guests on his show from time to time. That can't be said for any other ESPN talking head.

    Titletown USA

Interesting observations Barrie, but what about the Devils' championships? If one includes the Giants and Jets which play in NJ, shouldn't the Devils be considered too since, until last season, they played right next door to the American football teams? So in my opinon, include the Devils or exclude the Giants and Jets. Also is it fair to include cities that sometimes have 1.5 to nearly 2 times as many teams as most other cities?

What about the Lions logo? Maybe Mr. Ford will donate to the cause since you'd also be showing your support to a local, yet totally awful, team.

    Emery a victim of Racism?

Can't we blame this racism thing on Gary Bettman? I'm sure he hasn't done enough to make minorities feel welcome in the NHL.

    Mats Sundin

I really couldn't care less what Sundin does. As long as he doesn't don the Wings uniform, I'll be happy.
