The NHL wants to know why hockey is a '2nd-tier sport'

Whatever. The NHL is fine. Every game has problems. Because the NHL is fourth, or maybe even lower, it always faces more scrutiny. Poor officiating happens all the time, just ask the NBA. Seriously, I don't mean any disrespect, but the officials aren't dragging the game down. It just happens the NHL is not on top.

    2/10 GDT: Ducks 3, Red Wings 2

OK! I'm too f***in' wired and drunk too read through all 16 pages, so please forgive me in advance. 1 - Wings played tentative until their first goal. 2 - The second Ducks goal was classic Osgood ineffectiveness - goal from about the blue line. 3 - The third Ducks goals was the Wings defensive inability to take an opposing player off the puck! WTF!?!?! That is inexcusable!!! ******* check the f*****!!!! 4 - Osgood vs. Giguere. OMFG!!!! There's not that ******* much difference between the two in height and weight, yet, YET, JS looks like a f***in' monster!!! f*** the NHL for allowing that bulls***!!!! Twenty pounds and three inches. There's not that ******* much difference!!!!!! 5 - Wings scored a goal! Should have been OT. That was the most bulls*** call I've seen in ANY sport in a long time! Dan O'Halloran is a ******* tool!!!!!

    2/10 GDT: Ducks 3, Red Wings 2

The pessimism is easy to understand in my opinion. Two straight blown-lead loses to two of the worst teams in the League right now. The Wings play the Ducks, who have won three straight, then play two Central Division foes, which have caused Wings problems this season. After that it's two more nemesis with Dallas and Colorado, which have been playing well lately. It's a tough row for the Wings. Then the Western Canada trip after that, and they wrap up the month with San Jose. Not to mention Kronwall and Cleary are out. Then if you personally think the Wings need to make a trade, well that day is coming up quick, and that could cause headaches. So yeah, it's a hard knock February for the Wings.

Cleary: Out 6-8 Weeks w/Broken Jaw

Exactly Nev! Everybody needs to stop being so pessimistic like that one poster's roommoate. Sheesh. Cleary will be back and fresh for the playoff run. That's the bright side.

Cleary: Out 6-8 Weeks w/Broken Jaw

On the bright side, he should be well rested for the playoffs.

    Red Wings top trade bait

Well after reading this conversation, I can't think of anybody with upside. They do agree though that Sundin would be better than Hossa. That goes against what I was thinking. Still I'm not too big on anybody from the Wings current roster going away, for what they'll get in return.

    Damnit!

    Jimmy D

That's very good to read. There hasn't been one Wings trade proposal I've read that I've liked. Some are better than others in my opinion, but there's not one that is a must.

Cap to Go Up $3 Million

Damn! This CBA sucks. As far as salaries are concerned I bet players are really hating it.

    Going for 10.....

I'm not much on superstitions or jinxes, but there's no way I would've started a thread like this. It's like that scene from Bull Durham. By the way that's for the players on the streak, not the fans! It doesn't matter what fans do, at least in my opinion.

The Proper Way to Celebrate a Shootout Save

Greatest goal scorer of alltime: Pavel Bure

Lemieux had scored .822 goals per game prior to his un-retirement in the 2000-2001 season. Or the way we were mentioning it 1.21.

your top 5 favorite non-red wing players today?

I forgot about Andrew Brunette! My list will change now.

    Greatest Sports Upsets Ever

Oh wow, this is cool. Eli Manning on Letterman just mentioned Miracle and how the Giants playing the Patriots the final game of the regular season was like when the Americans were beat by the Soviets prior to the Olympics. Then how the Giants beating the Patriots was like the Americans beating the Soviets in the medal round. Weird!

    Greatest Sports Upsets Ever

It's not like the pre-season college American football rankings mean something. They're about the most worthless rankings in sports.

    Kovalchuk Crosby Iginla Johnson Brunette

    Bobby Clarke on the Wings

Nothing. He's a 100 percent right about that.

    Bobby Clarke on the Wings

Damn, and I was expecting the Wings aren't a tough team. That they need more players who'll drop the gloves, run superstars on the opposing team, and otherwise take stupid penalties.

Greatest goal scorer of alltime: Pavel Bure

Yeah, where's Mario Lemieux? He scored about once every four periods, or about 1.32, 915 games and 690 goals scored. Think about had he been healthy the whole time.

    Forsberg rejects Stars, Wings, Flames

Fine with me. Just like last year, I don't expect him to do much in the playoffs. If he makes it that far.

    Darren McCarty Progress Thread

Cool photo. I'm not *** or anything, not that there's anything wrong with that, but Mac is a sexy beast in that photo. My fondest live memory of Mac was at a Predators game in Nashville during the warm-up. Metallica was playing and as Mac was waiting for a puck to shoot he was playing air guitar and nodding his head. That was cool. Anyway have fun Sunday. Wish I could be at that game. I would totally be like Mac was to Lemiuex for anybody who dared show up in a Ducks jersey.

O.K. article, just loved the last line

I think that stems for the coach and the captain. It's also the difference between a hockey player mentality and a football player mentality. It's funny people think of the Wings as losers or chokers in the vein of the Atlanta Braves or Buffalo Bills. That's ridiculous in my opinion. One, the Stanley Cup is the hardest trophy to win. Two, no other NHL team has been as successful as the Wings in the last 16 years.
