I consider myself a hockey purist, but I'm sold on the shootout. Also, the point system the way it is now, is fine by me too. It's a shame, in my opinion, that people can't just sit back and enjoy the game. It's a shame that people want to keep tinkering with the game. It's a shame that we're still discussing this.

Another idea for GM's - Shorten Season to 70-74 games
auxlepli replied to RedWingsRox's topic in General
I doubt it'd happen, but I can definitely understand the reasoning behind it, which IMO is mostly in regards to player health. Though I would be sad there'd be fewer NHL games, as a fan I could support shortening the season. And for hockey condensing the schedule isn't an option, because of the game's physicality vis-a-vis player health. In fact all stick and ball sport seasons could be shortened, and I'd be happier. That baseball drags out into November is ridiculous. As is gridiron football extending into February, and winter sports until June. -
The NHL's top secret flow chart for handing out suspensions
auxlepli replied to WpgMikos's topic in General
That chart is dead on it. I LLOL, and I wouldn't doubt it for a minute if, in fact, it came from NHL offices. -
Sorry, I wanted to beat all the Versus haters to the punch.
-
Well Versus just got worse.
-
Consider the source. Does ESPN ever, EVER, post a positve NHL story?

NHLFA would like your suggestion for a good lobbying tactic
auxlepli replied to vladdy16's topic in General
True. The only way to affect the owners is to not attend games, and generally speaking hockey fans aren't willing to do that. -
Thanks for asking, but I'm OK without it. Even with it I wouldn't be able to install it on my computer. No admin rights either.

I mean I can't download the zip files. They are blocked by IT Nazi's. No downloads for me!
-
No I didn't see it, but thanks for quoting your post so I could. However I'm blocked from seeing it.

OMFG you're right. They are very similar. Thanks for pointing that out, sincerely. I've been wondering what typeface that was for years. And thanks Echolalia for the link. Looks to me like one of the swash variety. http://www.itcfonts.com/fonts/font/pid/415...y=%22bookman%22 Oh and back to the name typeface, I think it really is Steel-something. I think even Matt posted that maybe a year or two ago.
-
The name typeface is pretty standard. I don't think it's custom. I want to say it's something like Steelhead or something like that. What I'd like to know is the typeface for the Detroit Red Wings logo. Now that might be custom, but I bet there's something out there that's pretty similar.

Yeah don't do anything to see more games or to help the sport you presumably love. That makes lots of sense, just like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Versus was the network fronting the most money. It's either that deal, or paying more at the gate?

Reading The Game I found this: Emphasis mine. I think what the Wings try to do now is what Dryden describes in the italicized part. I know I'd rather see that than fights.

None of those three numbers, for who they represent, should be retired in my opinion. Chelios, Fedorov and Konstantinov did not make the same impact to the Red Wings organization that Yzerman, Howe, Sawchuk, Lindsay, Abel and Delvecchio did. Frankly, this whole retirement of numbers thing shouldn't have even been brought up, again.
-
Yeah you're right. The NHL PR corps should just close up shop and not produce any more stories. Heaven forbid they should right a story about the second leading NHL goal scorer ever meeting one of the premiere players of today.

For hockey-loving troops the NHL coverage here in Iraq has really been pretty good. So far AFN has shown the Versus feed of at least three games, including the first Red Wings and Blues game. Stars and Stripes on Thursday had four full pages devoted to the NHL, and the blurb above the banner that day stated, "Penguins, Red Wings could concievably meet in the Stanley Cup finals for third consective year." It's seems much better now than my previous deployments.
-
Oh, OK. You're using the term just figuratively. My statement was literal and figuratve.

The most the NHL could do is something like the IRL did - issue a press release. http://www.indycar.com/news/?story_id=15139 http://www.indycar.com/news/?story_id=15064 As far as I know, sadly, the NHL didn't even do that. The NHL doesn't have enough clout to step in.

Really? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Walt...ny_subsidiaries http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Comcast_Corporation Granted it's Wikipedia, but I'd like to know how Disney owns Comcast which owns Versus.

In my opinion it's a good thing. Anything that keeps the NHL off the Mickey Mouse networks is a good thing.

Until the NHL installed safety nets there wasn't a bad seat in the Joe in my opinion. So now I'd say anywhere is fine except behind the safety nets. Last year I sat near one of the blue lines in the last row, and the view was still phenomenal. I posted a photo on my blog, so you can see it there.

Fine as is ... as in to stay the course. Not go changing things willy nilly, just because some lame brain gets a wild hare up his arse. And especially wanting to change things because some talking heads at a Mickey Mouse network, known for hating hockey, say so.
-
I do watch college football, just not on that Mickey Mouse network. The network's business decision, my decision to boycott it. That's the great thing about a free country. But I totally disagree with you regarding the four-letter's coverage of sports. Fox Sports does a much better job in my opinion. Fox had a much better highlight show which showed highlights of nearly all games, not just some.
