11/21 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Canadiens 2 (SO)

Maybe this will turn out alright. The usual script would have the Wings getting a penalty after the tying goal.

Do you get the feeling that whoever scores next wins the game?

Thanks - I knew he had health concerns, but didn't know the whole story.

I can't believe that Mickey Redmond didn't make the trip to Montreal! What gives? I figured he'd be on tonight - all fired up and speaking French.

11/20 GDT: Panthers 2 at Red Wings 1 (OT)

I know this is silly, but I'd really like to kick the s#$@ out of Mickey York for running his mouth at the end of the second about the Wings perfect record when leading the Panthers after leading after 40 min. Why do Detroit announcers feel like they have to pull this kind of crap. Too many Wings shooters waiting that extra split second tonight allowing the opponent to deflect an otherwise good shot.

    Officials...Conspiracy or Incompetence?

I guess one of the advantages of having to live through all of the similar crap the Wings went through last season, is that I really don't give a rats a$$ about this regular season. Even when the Wings only give a half-hearted effort during their games, I can forgive them, because I am only half-heartedly watching. I say give Ozzy and everybody else lots of time off during the regular season - just be ready for the playoffs. Watching the ineptitude transpire at the bowling alley last night, someone said (before the goal was called off) "how can they not call that a goal?" My prophetic response was, "for any other team, that's a goal!" Every time you see the refs start dinking around at the end of a play, you have a 99% chance that it will be bad news for Detroit. If crap like this had happened at the Olympia years ago, the refs would have been in real danger. Oh for the good old days.

That's weird - maybe it's my TV, because I'm watching FSN also, but all I see is the score!

Sorry if someone has asked this before, but does anyone know why they are not showing the time clock on the TV screen? They are not even showing the PP times!

    Your final words...

Final words: If some of the injuries were as bad as they have been revealed, it's too bad that Babs didn't stay with the kids who won games 1 & 2. I still maintain that if the Penquins had been as beat up as the Wings were, Bettman would never have accelerated the start of the finals. No more debate for me about Osgood - he is our first string - "A"-team - #1 goalie. Speaking of Ozzy, hows about Holland schedules rotating, 10 day, mental health vacations for the whole team next season??? Keep Stuart next season - just give him 40 lashes for screwing up the final game. It's frustrating that, for a team with supposed superior poise, that the Wings seemed to come so unglued from a shorthanded goal in game 4. Maybe injuries will cause that. I don't hate Pittsburgh, or the Pens. Hell, Pitt doesn't get any more respect than the city of Detroit. What I hate is the NHL shoving the Pens down our throats, which is not really the fault of the Pens themselves. This loss makes my finals record 4-6, instead of 5-5. I've now seen them lose in 1961, 1963, 1964, 1966, 1995, and 2009. We still need two more cups to tie Toronto for second place with 13 cups.

    Who is gonna chicken out?

Oh my, my stomach must be 10 times more queasy than the rest of you. I'll start watching (and taping the game), but if the Wings get behind, I may not be able to take it. I'll resort to my time honored tactic of continuing to tape the game, but only checking the score periodically to see if they've caught up. I'm hoping for a game 7 like we had against Colorado in 2002 - the Wings were way ahead before I could even think about getting too nervous. As for the award ceremony, should the Wings lose. I'll be watching, hoping that Bettman gets hit wiith an octopus. But as soon as he hands off the cup, the sucker is going off. Here's to an easy 6-0 victory, and a good nights sleep afterwards.
  11. Agree - you have to wonder what he thought about his team behaving badly at the end of games 2 and 5? Hopefully he'll get better control of them next season.

    Katrina Hancock

I've never seen her (live up north, don't have cable), but maybe she took lessons from the FSD guy, whose name escapes me at the moment. Case in point: After the Wings win game 7, and Ozzy is named the Conn Smythe winner, one of our local geniuses will be sure to ask him, "Ozzy, how big a win is this for you tonight?"

If the Pens pull this off on Friday....

While the Wings did not look in any way interested for most of last nights game, and while the Pens might be a team to enjoy - if they weren't constantly being shoved down our throats by the NHL, I do have one request of the fans at The Joe on Friday night. Please behave badly during the award ceremonies - especially if the Pens win. The Wings are too classy to complain, but it doesn't mean we have to be. Most of us are so sick of Bettman and his meddling ways, that he deserves to approach going into the Joe with much trepidation. From his "phantom suspension" bending of the rules, to his scheduling trickery (do you think for one minute that if Crosby or Malkin had been injured and Pav been healthy, that Bettman would have been in such a hurry to move up the beginning of the finals?), I would like nothing better than to not be able to hear Bettman for all of the boos cascading from the stands - and if he had to duck a few times, so much the better. Give the winners the respect they deserve, but give Bettman nothing!

    What happens next..?

I think that the Wings are pulling the wool over everybody's eyes. They are resting themselves. A lot of the injuries being reported are not real, they are just a ruse to get certain players even more rest. The players and coaches are giggling amongst themselves, knowing that at the right time, the well-rested team will suddenly spring to life and bring the cup to Detroit once again. Maybe this isn't really so, but I feel better believing it.

To each his own, and I respect your opinions. But, while you watch replays of this exciting game, I'll opt for the 7-0 blowout of the Aves in game 7 back in 2002.

Agreed! I am never "entertained" by a loss. Each loss makes me sorry that I wasted my time watching it.

Pisses me off that in the final minute, Dats had an excellent opportunity to put Ott in the hospital, and just gave him a piss-poor body check into the boards. Last years losing streak was because of injuries. This year it's just that half the team is just plain incompetent. They seem to play in just a ho-hum manner. I'd just like to have seen O'Halloran pull his referreeing bulls*** with Jack Adams, Ted Lindsay, and the crowd at Olympia. He would have gotten beat to a pulp, like he deserves.

Observations: 1. If I'm Mike Illich, I tell my players and coaches to just let fly with whatever comments they want to make about the refs, and I'll foot the bill. 2. If I meet O'Halloran on the street, I lead off with a sucker punch kick to the balls. When he bends over in pain, I punt him in the face, and end up grinding his ugly face with my heel. I won't even bother applying the claw hold! 3. Osgood should definitely get one of those spring-loaded helmets like Conks has. Might be good for a few more PP's.

I'm not quite sure how to properly word this, but I'll try. How many saves has Turco made tonight, where, if the Wings had scored, you could say "Well, you can't fault Turco for that one," but he, in fact, still made the save. It just seems that opposing goalies are making a lot more of those type of saves.

1/27 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Blue Jackets 3 (OT)

I'm really pissed that the game didn't get to the shootout, because I was wondering who Babcock would pull out of the hat to do the shooting. I assume that Hudler would have been one, but who would the other two have been?

1/27 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Blue Jackets 3 (OT)

Well, so much for the Wings coming out pissed off and hitting because of the Lids - Pavs BS! Once again the Wings are the ones getting hurt. I'd sure like to see the Wings dishing out the injuries to the other teams for a change.

Hey, what's all this talk about this being a great game????? The Wings lost --- therefore this game becomes a frustrating waste of time that will only make me tired and cranky tomorrow.

    Interview with Roenick

Yeah, especially when you have to put up with lame-ass John Whatever-the-hell-his-name-is. I'm darn sure that if he or Trevor T got to interview them after winning the Stanley Cup, their first question would be "Tell us, how big a win was this one?" All they seem to do is ask "how" questions.

You must be a hockey purist, who enjoys watching no matter what. I guess I'm the opposite - I feel like I just wasted the entire evening, watching a bunch of millionaires who can't even give a good days work for a good days pay. A little too harsh - yeah, perhaps, considering their record. Still would have been more fun to watch if we had a Probert-type, who could take care of business and make watching a loss worthwhile. The biggest thing that pisses me off is that, with the game on the line, I'm seeing guys like Stuart, Filipula, out there fumbling the game away. SHouldn't Babcock shorten the bench in situations like this???
