Way to show up a minute late, Stuart, you f***wad! Like I said before, if one of our endless PK's had been for someone kicking the s*** out of Ott, he wouldn't have been there to score that gift.

This is the type of game where if we had someone on the roster who could go out and whip Ott's ass, and get the team fired up, we could probably win easily. But nnnooooo, we ain't got s*** in the fisticuffs department.

    Famous Red Wing Games?

Let me add a few, even though these are just memorable moments for me, not necessarily complete games. -- A "throwback jersey" game in Chicago. Roenick charges all the way across the rink, leaves his feet, and smashes Vladdy into the boards knocking out the glass - no penalty! Later Ray Sheppard wins it in OT. -- Another Chicago game, OT in the playoffs. Vladdy crosses center ice, and dumps the puck in for a line change. The dump gets by Belfour for the game winner. -- Can't even remember the opponent, but Jeff Odgers (I think) is the one who gets KO'd with one bloody punch by the scholarly tough guy, Stu Grimson. -- I don't have this on tape (darn it), but when the Wings first unveiled the "Russian 5." I swear those guys could score at will. It was so fascinating, and different from how hockey was being played, that the other team looked like they were just standing there watching.

Anybody have the faceoff stats for tonight. I expect the Wings got their butts kicked in that category - not that it matters now.

Same here. I thought Dats had muffed the play, then the puck is in the net. With the Turco version of the "Datsyukian fade" it was easy to see the first time, but this one had both the goalie and me faked out.

I know this is awfully premature, but screw this game - I've wasted enough time watching it, and I don't see any good coming out of it.

    12/15 GDT: Avalanche 3, Red Wings 2

Doesn't sound too pretty, but I've always said they should aim a few at the head - the block attempts will stop quickly.

    12/15 GDT: Avalanche 3, Red Wings 2

That would be nice, but I'm definitely starting to doubt their ability to do that.

Have the Wings taken any shots tonight that were not high on the glove side? It's obviously not working.

Why is it that the Wings PP success is always inversely proportional to the number of times the announcers talk about their greatness?

If this gets any worse, someone might start throwing shoes at the Wings!!!

Would you wear an Avalanche jersey?

It's a strange thing about me and rivalries. I would NEVER, EVER wear an Aves Jersey. And when the Aves have gone deeper into the playoffs than the Wings, I root against them at every level. However, two of the Wings older rivalries, against Montreal and Chicago, I treat differently - if the Wings aren't in it, I cheer for either the Hawks or Canadiens to win. I can see myself with a Habs jersey, simply because they are way cool - second only to the winged wheel. That said, I'm still pissed about 1966. I agree with the late Gary Bergman, who once said, "I've still never seen that puck under Henri Richard ever cross the goal line!"

Don't get your hopes up too much for the next game, as the Wings will be able to drag out that old "first game back after a road trip" excuse. While i can't say that the Wings were dogging it tonight, it was one of those games where the opposition seemed to always have 8 men on the ice - one player doggin each Wing player, plus three more in front of their net. That usually happens when you're getting outworked.

    11/24 GDT: Red Wings 2 @ Canucks 3 (OT)

I'd like to know what the Wings record against backup goaltenders has been the past ffew years. I'd bet it isn't too great. And I wonder how much better our allready good power play would be, if the opponents didn't know that Samuelsen will shoot the puck 90% of the times he gets it? It just seems like a majority of the clears made by the opponents PK's are attributable to Samuelsen or Rafalski.

What's going on here? I just got home half way through the first period, the Wings are up 3-0, but I haven't seen a single offensive rush yet!!!!

When is the bashing of players going to end?

Well put! I imagine that the bashing will stop around the time that our bosses stop bashing us when we don't put in a full day of effort - at a fraction of the pay. If I'm paying big buck ticket prices to players pulling in millions each year, then is it too much to ask for 60 minutes of effort?

11/11 GDT: Penguins 7, Red Wings 6 (OT)

Sure didn't hear a whole lot of boooing at the end of the game. What's wrong with you people down there - pay good money to see a crock of s*#t, and not even voice your displeasure? You should be demanding a refund. PS - Is anybody else getting tired of reading how happy some Wings fan is because some enemy bastard is on his fantasy team?

10/29 GDT: Ducks 5, Red Wings 4 (OT)

I don't know if this was mentioned earlier, but I hope I don't have to hear the Detroit announcers talk anymore about how tough the first game back home from a long road trip is, because the Ducks tonight proved that that excuse is a bunch of bulls***.

10/27 GDT: Red Wings 4, Kings 3 (SO)

Looks like this is going to be another of those all too frequent "opposing goalie stands on his head" games! LaBardiedoll is in the running for Vezina tonight.

    Where's Bud Lynch?

For some reason, I always thought he spelled his name with two "d"'s, Budd Lynch. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Like many of you, I can't imagine Red Wing hockey without him. I still fondly remember laying in bed in my darkened room listening to Budd doing the Wings play-by-play on WWJ radio, in the early 1960's. I think that his first color man (that I remember) was a guy named Al Nagler. Then it was Sid Abel (when Sid wasn't coaching), and then some young kid named Bruce Martyn. I have only been to one Red Wing game since they moved to the Joe. At that one game, I got there very early, and got to shake hands and talk with Budd as he made his way to the press box. How many of you remember when he used to host a trick shot bowling show on TV years ago? I hope when I get to heaven, I'll get to hear the various sports announced by Budd Lynch, Van Patrick & Bob Reynolds, Ernie & Paul, and Bob Ufer!!

10/9 GDT: Maple Leafs 3, Red Wings 2

Who's the guy announcing the goals and penalties at the Joe? It isn't Budd Lynch. Is Budd cutting back on his duties?

Anybody with more than 4 Cups?

Because I'm obviously too lazy to look through all the data, I'll ask you more energetic types: Has anybody won more than four Stanley Cups as a Red Wing player? We have 4 or 5 in the current group who have 4, the Howe, Delvecchio, Sawchuk group only had 4, and I think Sid Abel only had 4. Can't think of anyone who had 5. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Anybody with more than 4 Cups?

Thanks, Icer, for your research. I suspected that, with one more cup, our current group could enter into record setting territory.
  25. Sgt. Angry

    NBC made me sick because....

You know, things could be a lot worse. Imagine if Crosby was playing for the Rangers? How many cups did Stevie Y. win? Three, and yet how often do you see NHL advertising show him lifting the cup compared to Messier when the Rangers won? I guess the NHL will just have to keep showing Messier until Sidney wins one, and then we'll get sick of seeing that one too. I think most of us have no problem with Crosby, or with Pittsburgh. After all, Pitt is kind of like Detroit and Cleveland - working class, rust-belt cities, who get no respect from the rest of the country. It's just the incessant hype that gets us upset.
