Makes a lot of sense. I was surprised to see Anaheim stay put and that Islanders never moved Blake to compensate for the Smyth deal. Blake will most likely leave as a free agent anyway, since the Islanders don't want to give him that 5 yr $18 M contract.

I strongly disagree. There's a difference between not being soft and being gritty. Being gritty is a style of play, it's different from not allowing yourself to be intimidated. I didn't say they're soft, but they're NOT gritty.

Since when is Lidstrom gritty?! I wouldn't label Kronwall or Schneider gritty either. Hudler and Lebda?

I'll grade Holland B+ to A-. I like both additions of Bertuzzi and Calder. I don't mind what Holland gave up. I also like that Holland took a gamble on Bertuzzi. He could have opted for more toughness and size though, but overall very good.

The Islanders paid a steep price, but they got a true character player in return, something they've been lacking.

It's laughable how people try to make everything out to be black or white. I'm not going to forget about three years of complete incompetence on Holland's behalf simply because he finally made a move. Holland gets credit when credit is due. He's gotten a lot of credit for the Zetterberg deal from both the Holland anti-faction and the Holland apologist's. Anything else is bulls***. I still don't think the Datsyuk deal was much to celebrate. He overpaid. No doubt.

Bertuzzi is a HUGE gamble, but I absolutely LOVE it. Finally some changes! Holland even managed to get him without giving up too much. Nice!

It took Holland three years to figure out what was clear to many of us after the Ducks swept us back in 2003. The Bertuzzi deal is further proof that we were right and it's Holland admitting past mistakes if anything. All the misbeliefs aimed at Holland were highly justified since he failed miserably at past deadlines. That said, I'm very pleased with Holland's actions this deadline. I him for finally having the guts to make some changes. Nice work!

Islanders fans seem to think Blake is selfish but an extremely hard worker. Sounds weird but he's supposed to be totally reckless to himself on the ice.

I guess whatever reason they traded Calder in the first place, but on paper I agree that Calder and Williams look pretty similar. I feel pretty good about this deal though.

Sorry mate, I think you greatly underestimate the ego of Jaromir Jagr. When he's in a bad mood, there's no greater destructive force in the entire NHL. Players like Chelios and Lidstrom mean jack to him, especially if they stand in the way of his wishes. Jagr is the ultimate primadonna and he cares about nobody but himself. All the time. He's not even that big of a scoring threat in the playoffs I think. He's too easy to get off balance psychologically. His poor attitude cost the Rangers the series last post season.

I see this comment all the time. Current stats don't mean jack. I'm happy Holland made a move. It's a change and we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.
