I would have expected Upshall, a 1st and a 3rd. I heard the rumors about Parent and Getzlaf but I didn't believe them for a second. I had the chance to see Parent in the WJCH:s and he is the real deal, a steady top four defenseman for sure. I wouldn't have done Parent plus picks, but the Flyers managed to squeeze in Upshall there as well. Good for them! I realize the Preds have a surplus of young defensemen, but Parent could have landed them a solid return on his own in any other trade.

Upshall AND Parent?! If true, that's insane. Now Holland can focus on what we truly need. Sweet.

I don't believe for a second that Forsberg will command a return in the mold of Kronwall or Getzlaf. A decent NHL-ready prospect (Hudler or similar) and picks should be it.

MLive: Forsberg talk heats up, deal "in days"?
RyanBarnes! replied to Howe's Bony Elbow's topic in General
When Matt posted the question Tkachuk or Bertuzzi before I picked Tkachuk and I still do, however I think Bertuzzi is more realistic. He will attract a lot less interest than Tkachuk and should therefor come cheaper (but he will still command a solid return for the Panthers). In conclusion I think Bertuzzi offer a better risk/return ratio than Tkachuk although being more of a gamble. -
I'd definitely rank him above Ohlund and the Sedins, but that's me.
-
Hopefully it's because people realize there's no way a) the Habs will trade him b) Holland will even ask since he prefers veterans.
-
I believe you forgot Norstrom.

As mentioned by others already, Lang was rumored to become a Red Wing long before it actually happened. I think the main reason Holland hasn't gone after big name free agents is lack of cap room, rather than a sudden change of philosophy. I think Holland is very interested in Forsberg. Personally, I'm not in favor of a Forsberg move. I imagine the asking price being a prospect, a 1st rounder and perhaps a conditional pick. I'd rather save a pick and take a chance on Bertuzzi. -

Are you kidding me?! Forsberg is the biggest offensive name available. He is a veteran and a Swede. I can't think of anything more Holland than trading for Forsberg. If anything, Bertuzzi, Tkachuk or Guerin is not Holland's style. -
Sounds like a cool idea!
-
One reason could be that there's truth to the rumor of Babcock and Lang not getting along.
-
What difference does it make? He's an extremely competitive player. That's good enough.
-
Trading for Bertuzzi would at least show some guts and a willingness to address a team need. That is more than Holland has done in years. I would defend such a move even if it didn't pan out, because my main issue with Holland is his tendency to take the safe route and his unwillingness to make changes.
-
I think both Murray and Sturm would interest Detroit. Murray being a natural goalscorer and Sturm being a great skater. I have no idea who would interest Boston though. They probably want prospects and picks in return.
-
Definitely. A power forward stands up for himself and his team. Dropping the gloves is an important part of this. It always has been.
-
Looks like Boston will continue their tradition of not re-signing UFA:s. Sturm should be next.
-
No way.
-
Sure Forsberg can hit, he can take a hit too. He can go through a brick wall if he has to, but he's not an intimidating force and he is no power forward. Bertuzzi is a better fit and he'd come cheaper.
-
Actually Forsberg makes the least sense, when you consider Detroit's needs. He's a centre. He's not a power forward. He's injury prone. Unfortunately, he's probably the one drawing most attention from Holland. Holland should focus on Bertuzzi instead.

Errr, Holland hasn't really made any changes for this upcoming season except to sign Markov. Babcock is the main person behind this season's result. Not Holland. I'll bash Yzerman too if I have to, but most of the heat Holland takes is for stuff he did or didn't do in the past. Yzerman started his position this season. Besides, I think you grossly overrate Yzerman's role, based on the fact that he was a great captain. Holland didn't listen to Yzerman when he asked for more toughness as a captain, why should he listen now?

Neither of those players are available right now as you already know, but more importantly there are no guarantees in trades. Not ever. I'm willing to take a chance on Bertuzzi, because he offers something the Red Wings sorely lack and he could come at a reasonable price compared to similar players. Now, this price includes the risk of Hudler developing into a great player, which is also the Panthers incentive to make this deal. That's a risk I'm willing to take because in the short run I believe Bertuzzi can make more of a difference than Hudler can, and I don't think Hudler is crucial to our organization in the long run. The reason behind this, is that he is similar to most other players/prospects in terms of style/size. Had the makeup of our team/organization been different, I would probably lobby to trade someone else.
-
The point was to demonstrate that there are other players that can fill in for those who depart, Hudler isn't our only option. Then there's also the possibility to sign free agents. Some players turn UFA at the age of 27 under the new CBA. If you want something you pay the price. You can't eat the cookie... There are players available, but you need to give up something in order to get them. That goes for every type of elite player, not just the physical ones. Bertuzzi is definitely available. Every time we have this discussion it boils down to this, I don't think Hudler is anything special, but you do. I'm willing to trade him, you're not. We're never getting past that.
-
I don't think Zubrus will go anywhere. He plays with Ovechkin.
-
I think you have your twins mixed up or something, because Henrik's brother Joel Lundqvist is actually a hockey pro with the Dallas Stars organization. He's appeared in 12 NHL games this season, scoring 2 goals and 4 points. He's a very skilled defensive player that projects to be a third liner in the future. Link

Eva, you just don't get it do you? All your if's, but's and nice calculations doesn't mean jack to me. It's nothing but numbers. There's no way of estimating a player's performance by using a certain multiplier to make up for the games or minutes he didn't play. Look at what Heaton just posted. Hudler hasn't looked that impressive when given extra time. If you wanna make use of your numbers and statistical talents, I suggest you analyze empirical data, like the draft or something.
