Not interested. I'd rather keep the pick than trade for another small forward.
-
He skates pretty well. I'm more curious if he can play a truly physical game. If not, that size is wasted. I'm amazed that Quincey is constantly rated so low. I guess it's because he's not a flashy offensive type of player. I'm positive he will turn out one of the best players on that list.

Clearly you're familiar with Carle and that would have to count for something, but I still think replacing Datsyuk with Marleau would have a bigger impact on this team than replacing Kronwall with Carle. Besides, there's no way Datsyuk plus a throw in would fetch Marleau. Datsyuk simply hasn't enough value to the Sharks for such a deal to go through. Yes, the winner is selected in a poll by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association.

Dr NorrisNick, I know what you meant, but I can't have you undermining my credibility with a cheapshot like that. I'm not taking trading Kronwall lightly by any means. I didn't just "toss him in". I'll trade anyone if it would make the team better. I wouldn't trade Lidstrom because there's simply no way it could improve the team. Kronwall is simply the player that best fit the needs of San Jose and one they'd be willing to trade for. I'd rather give up Schneider but in reality there's not a trade to be made involving him and Marleau. It's not the standard "LGW" package in the sense that it actually involves giving up a quality player and not a bunch of "leftovers" that for one reason or the other displeases the fans. Still we're talking about Datsyuk and a throw in (Grigorenko, Hudler or whoever) that has absolutely no value to a deep team like the Sharks. Bell gives the Sharks the option to trade for something else than a centre, by which logic wouldn't they try and address some real needs? Namely an experienced offensive defenseman? Like I said before in my opinion Marleau + Carle exceeds the value of Datsyuk + Kronwall. Doesn't matter if Kronwall is better than Datsyuk or not. Carle could very well be the next Kronwall, and truth be told I'm not sure the Sharks would consider dealing Carle at this point. However I'm hoping that Kronwall's experience in the NHL and internationally would attract their interest. I doubt that Kronwall will be the clear cut number 2 at the start of the season, plus with the group of defensemen currently in Detroit I don't think Carle will hurt us one bit if he was number 4. Carle is perfectly capable to log minutes in PP etc. He has the potential to be where Kronwall is now, only a year from now. The centre position is hardly a strength of ours during the playoffs. Marleau would provide something the team is sorely lacking; size and scoring touch. From a Red Wings perspective the centre position is equally if not more important than defense. And what happened in 2003-04? Point being, a case could always be made since he has been plagued by injury during both of his NHL seasons.

I disagree. I resent that remark. I have every bit as much hope in Kronwall as you do, but I've come to terms with the fact that the standard "LGW" package of Lang, Williams, Hudler etc plus picks will not land anything of significance. It will not help change the design of this team. Something that I believe is necessary at the moment. So please, spare me this nonsense. Trading Kronwall would hurt us only in the short run in my opinion, since Carle has the potential to become every bit as good as Kronwall a few years from now. In the meantime we have Lidstrom and Schneider as offensive defensemen. Defensemen like Kindl and Quincey are on their way. In Marleau Detroit would get a playoff performer at a key position. One that is not slated for free agency next season. Also keep in mind that Carle can step in as a 5th defenseman this season. He is ready. I admit trading Kronwall is a gamble but so is he with his injuries.
-
Fine, it's my humble opinion that a deal like that would have absolutely no shot at landing Marleau whatsoever -if available. It would make no sense for the Sharks.
-
Forget about balancing a Datsyuk for Marleau deal without giving up something substantial. Datsyuk on his own has virtually no value to the Sharks. Overall I say my suggestion is a fair deal for both parties, but if you have a better suggestion -let's hear it.
-
If you want something good, you gotta give up something good. Overall I think Detroit would be better off with Marleau/Carle than Datsyuk/Kronwall.
-
I think you're underestimating Carle. He's just as promising as Kronwall was at his age. Kronwall however has a bit more experience, something that could benefit the Sharks. The Red Wings on the other hand could use a post season performer like Marleau.
-
So, does this mean you wouldn't make the deal? The Datsyuk for Marleau swap must be balanced, Kronwall and Carle might do it.
-
I was pondering a Datsyuk + Kronwall for Marleau + Carle trade earlier, but Carle is a great prospect and he had a terrific debut last season. That said I'm not convinced the Sharks would do it, however Kronwall should be ready to log more ice time than Carle at this point. That would be a plus to the Sharks. Then again, Kronwall is awfully close to be labeled injury-prone already. Thoughts?

Anson Carter an (e4) Detroit according to Eklund
RyanBarnes! replied to Zeta Power 40's topic in General
And the difference being that he proved people wrong from the start. He also managed to score in every playoff run except his first. People have been waiting for Datsyuk to do the same for the last three post seasons. -
But it will also in way decrease the possibility of sending Datsyuk their way, and thereby decrease the possibility of such a trade ever happening. They might not be looking to replace Marleau with a centreman.

Talent is always second to desire in the playoffs. Absolutely nothing points toward Datsyuk suddenly exploding in the playoffs next season. Nothing. He's more than welcome to prove me wrong though. -

Datsyuk exploding in the playoffs? I wouldn't hold my breath... -

In the regular season that is. Lang will produce in the playoffs. Datsyuk would also fetch a better return. This much is true. -

The first statement is debatable, since the main issue becomes limited ice time from Lang's point of view. However as usual, I'm all for trading Datsyuk for a winger. Samuelsson and Williams are not top six wingers and Carter shouldn't be an option. -
No idea, the article doesn't get into specifics. It only says "wrist injury".
-
The other poster pretty much summed it all up. Some more details. The article says Zetterberg has been forced to tape his wrists in order to be able to play from time to time, but other times he's felt fine. The pain re-occurred when Zetterberg started to practice on ice earlier this week with his former team Timra. The doctors in Detroit want to examine him and find out what's wrong once and for all, so he's been put on a plane to Detroit. He may need an operation in order to get rid of this injury. Agent Gunnar Svensson doesn't know if this threatens Zetterberg's season premiere: "Nobody has that answer right now". I hope this helps.

It seems negotiations between Carter and Vancouver broke off before they even started. Kinda weird considering Carter and the Sedin's seemed to have some chemistry playing together. This leads me to believe Vancouver isn't really too interested, or else both parties should be able to work something out. Maybe I'm just jumping to conclusions. I never said he was, I said COMPARED to Carter he is. Carter is the ultimate floater.
-
I'd rather have Dumont at $3 M than Carter at $2 M. Compared to Carter, Dumont is a legitimate powerforward. Carter can't stick with any team. He managed to get himself traded 3 times in 2003-04 and despite putting up career numbers in goals (33) last season, Vancouver wants no part of him. I'll take Sykora over Carter as well.
-
Naslund is overrated and tired. This could be a great move for Vancouver.

Dumont > Carter

Fellow easter europeans Zetterberg and Lidstrom. What???
