No excuses. Russia played a great game, but it was only one game. Looked like it may have been Canada's turn to be robbed of a goal this time around. The referee sure blew the whistle quickly, but I'm not sure he was quick enough.

Nice scrap. Thanks!

Penner would be an interesting acquisition.
-
Witt or no Witt, be prepared to give up something more than Rivers. He's not fetching much in return.
-
Maybe I had him confused with someone else then. My bad.
-
I believe Tkachuk's salary is closer to $2 M rather than $3-4 M next season.
-
Carney? Doesn't surprise me. Anybody is better than Woolley and Carney is better than a lot of softies, but I do wish Kenny could get someone closer to their 30's rather than their 40's.

No way! Bootland is the only physical presence in the organization. Ottawa player- Vaclav Varada. Detroit player- Darryl Bootland. No way bro....Bootland for Neil? We'll talk Wow, I never thought this GM game would be so hard, lol. Neil is way to steep for Bootland alone IMO, after showing his scoring touch this season he is a valuable player to the sen's. Ottawa player- Vaclav Varada, Danny Bois Detroit player- Darryl Bootland Neil for Bootland and pick.

I'd take Gauthier, but he wouldn't help us in the toughness department.

I'd take Witt, because he would bring an edge to Detroit that Salei won't. My point is that Witt is too high priced for what he would bring. You could spend the league minimum and get the same contributions of toughness, and not much of a different defensive game. Salei might not be the enforcer Witt can be..but he is a MUCH better player. And he's still a pretty tough and gritty player. It's not like he's Dandy or something. I'd have to disagree. I believe Witt is the missing link. Salei isn't soft, but he wouldn't make a huge difference either. Witt is the missing link, huh? So you felt the Wings were primed and in position for the Cup before Fischer went down, then? Because Witt would bring an edge, but he would not make up for Fischer. Witt brings an element this team is sorely lacking, maybe more so than Fischer did. He will not replace Fischer's overall game. The team has improved a lot since Babcock took over. They play tighter on defense and with more intensity upfront. If Detroit could land Witt I'd feel they'd improve their chances even further.

FYI, Salei ($1.8) does not make less than Witt ($1.67).

I want to see the Red Wings give it their everything and play inspired hockey till their last game of the post season. If they do that, I'll be happy with whatever the result. It should probably take them past the second round.
-
for someone who keeps saying how we know nothing about hockey and were idiots for thinking witt is better then lilja(which he is by a mile) who do you keep saying "nashville wanted to re sign him" he never played for nashville ! so stop saying it Lilja never played any games for Nashville, but he was signed by them prior to the lockout.
-
Still, the question remains. Why would Lilja decide to go to Europe rather than to play in the NHL if he had a quality deal on the table? Since he is suspended in Sweden he couldn't go home. He was probably going to Switzerland, but that isn't exactly a top tier league, which leaves me thinking Nashville didn't value his services enough to offer him a good deal.
-
People have been asking for Witt for a long time. Not just since after the lockout. Witt's clearly an above average defenseman. His game may have slipped this last few seasons, but it's not like there's no explanation. Washington has been awful. He's been a solid stay at home defenseman his entire career. Anything else is bogus. Not only is he better than Woolley, but he's also better than Lilja. If given the opportunity to play in Detroit he'd prove it. If Lilja had offers on the table why did he want to return to Europe? Doesn't sound like anything someone with a quality offer would do.
-
At least Witt is sought after by several teams. Lilja was practically on a plane on his way to Europe when Kenny called him up. If Lilja turned out okay, why can't Witt? I wouldn't judge Witt on his current level of play, he's awaiting a trade. Either way, he's tougher than any player currently on the Wings and the Wings really need to toughen up.
-
I'd love to take a chance on him, since he's similar to the young McCarty in many ways, but it will never happen.
-
Personally, I think Parrish could help this team. He's not big or aggressive, but he's willing and able to score from in front of the net. Closest thing to an Kenny Holland type of player that I'd actually want. I'd love to get Witt or Rivet from Barnesy's list. I think Holland could target either Salei, Kuba, Zyuzin, Weinrich, Carney or perhaps even Dandenault.
-
I suspect that Ribeiro can be on the move. Rumors placed him in Washington earlier and I've also heard that Ribeiro and Koivu don't get along. Nothing the Wings should pursue though.
-
Weinrich might interest Kenny, since he's a veteran defensemen and all.
