LOL! i just disturbed everyone here at the library, laughing out loud! servo does bring up a good point. i suppose the issue is worsened when a player has a breakout season during a contract year.
-
wrong again. Drake only signed a one-year deal. this is the same reason why Maltby and Draper will play out their contracts since retiring won't result in any cap relieft. you can also bet Lids will take one year deals from here on out. he knows Kenny needs flexibility for the team.

Hossa has been awefully effective high in the slot. He almost always gets off a decent shot very quickly. Hossa is pretty tough to move once positioned. With him planted out there and his linemates cycling, it almost looks like an even strength PP. I regard this as the Wings' most effective designed play since the Ciccarelli/Holmstrom screen the net. Its probably one reason why Datsyuk is no longer his centerman. Dats likes to cycle it down low.
-
no.. im pretty sure the cap hit stays if the player is 35 when the contract is signed.
-
I agree... we gotta sign Hossa first. Although Franzen's potential salary might be more palatable to other teams... I can't imagine many teams will offer him long-term deals. Hossa on the otherhand...
-
I think its naive to think that Hudler and Franzen aren't in line for serious increases... no matter what Hossa does. Ken might be revealing his genius for keeping Helm and Ericsson in tow when just perhaps they were NHL-ready last year.
-
right now, Conks looks better at controlling rebounds than Ozzie
-
the problem is Draper-Maltby's line. Those guys can no longer fill their role. we can't/shouldnt expect Z and Pavs to block shots during the PK, at least not during the regular season.
-
I don't understand all this bickering.. Filppula + Hudler << Hossa + whatever we get in trade for Filppula this summer
-
Here's a BIG if... if Hossa's camp knows they can't exceed Z's 6.08M Cap number AND they are still willing to talk... look out!
-
I too would be curious as to what Team Sweden would look like... I think they are a bonafide threat to take it all.
-
I'm curious if Kenny mounts some sort of appeal, if so does this mean our guys get to play in the meantime?
-
yes... if he had a backup that could shutout detroit.
-
thats a huge loophole. i suppose this means we are on the hook for Drapers and Maltby's extensions... as for Z, i'd say he's certainly worth it. we get LTIR space if he gets hurt long-term and he comes off the cap should he retire.
-
does anyone know how retirement factors into the team's cap number? what if Z can't fulfill the purpoted 10 years?
-
Zetterberg denies report of rejecting 10yr, $75 million deal.
Grim replied to rage's topic in General
ho hum.. what if in the end it took a $81.95M deal over eleven years? or perhaps $82.8M over twelve would that make everyone happy?? we're squabble over a few apples here. I'd be extremely estatic if it actually took these kinds of figures to keep Z long-term. -
I concur. well, if he can't earn Hart consideration because of all the other stars on our team... at the very least Datsyuk should be getting Pearson thoughts. the guy is easily top 5 leaguewide consistently the most skilled player on the ice no matter the situation.
-
why? I feel Hossa is better with Zetterberg anyway.
-
that site is pretty unoriginal. they got both the selke and l-byng going to dats just like last year. dats definitely should be getting at least a nibble of some Hart or Pearson consideration.
-
I would certainly bite at this offer, If I were Bob Gainey. Vinny is a bonafide franchise player. The only concern would be the effect of the cost in trade. The Habs are playing pretty sweet right now, a huge move of this magnitude could very well upset the applecart. Heck, I'd do it anyway... to have Lecavalier locked up long term is huge!
-
the only thing Ozzie should be eyeing is the puck. He could just as easily lose his playoffs starts to Conklin *if* he hasn't already. Individual records and the HHOF should be an afterthought.
-
kinda sad how the Leafs are trying to tank this season to land Tavares. the ironic reality is, they aren't doing a good job at that either!
-
If Downie or McCarty were on the ice, i bet Ott's response wouldve been *significantly* less exhuberant. The guy answered with his stick. thats gutless, no matter how you look at it. It wasnt in the heat of the moment, it wasn't part of the gameplay. Ott deserves at least a game for that. Its almost silly how the league pushes suspensions, but hardly doles out misconducts during games these days.
