Best & Worst Trade Deadline Deals in Wings History
Grim replied to Wings_Fan_in_L.A's topic in General
November 2, 1989: Adam Graves traded by the Detroit Red Wings, along with Petr Klima, Joe Murphy and Jeff Sharples to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Jimmy Carson, Kevin McClelland and Edmonton's 1991 5th round draft choice. -
Although nothing beats damn good scouting, I'm sure the recent success owes alot to the system they have here in Detroit. Stevie, Shanny, Nick & Feds... god bless em all... shouldered tonnes of pressure over their years. I'm sure this helped tremendously in allowing players like Datsyuk and Zetts to develop and florish. I remember Freeper forum way back when, ranting and raving over this kid Datsyuk who was breaking ankles in the RSL. He certainly wasn't thrust into the NHL blender before he was ready. Heck, the leadership void after Stevie and Shanny's departure probably helped the team in some sordid way... by forcing our young stars to step up.

Bryan Murray should shoulder some of the blame. He aired this dirty laundry to the public... like what was there to gain? its a lose-lose situation. Disgruntled goalies is something that you deal with swiftly without hesitation.
-
Mats hesitated... Hossa pounced.
-
I'm surprised the Avs haven't entered the Sundin fray... especially if Foppa and Sakic don't come back this season.
-
Sounds like to me, Burkie is trying to writhe his way outta Anaheim... heck, if there actually was any tampering it should be the Leafs for messing up Burke's extension talks.

sorry for the late reply. cap number is a time-weighted figure (weighted nature only comes into play if a player is traded or has a 2-way contract). here were example figures used in 2007: lets say Player A has a one-way nhl contract at $1.2m per year. $1200000 salary/187 total days season = $6417 cap hit per day thus $6417 cap hit per day * 41 days remaining after trade deadline = $263101 player's new cap number post-deadline. at the trade deadline, a team that carried $1m cap space all season could theoretically add at least 3 equivalents of Player A contracts. of course i could be all wrong...
-
68 wins is impossible. no way in any shape or form does Babs push this team for useless regular season records.
-
its only tampering if you contact players who are still under contract... without consent from both managements.
-
how does a cap number of 1.2M equate to no cap space?? it actually equates to $5.47M prorated salary cap space come trade deadline. I agree that Sammy has a role, but his cap number undeniably has value. I fully expect him and/or Lilja to be moved because of this.

he was clearly part of Plan B, maybe even Fedorov. thankgoodness Hossa jumped quickly.
-
before you guys continue with the hostilities... anyone yet notice that neither D-Mac or Downie have actually signed?? like seriously, how bad were the offers? Just maybe Kenny tabled token offers which are tantamount to a subtle goodbye? Don't fret wingfans... Kenny will certainly get us someone to play the tough guy/enforcer role. I just wish KH would resolve the Filpulla issue first... whether it be signing him to play, or signing him for trade.

hey eva... just for giggles i compiled a list of draftees that the Canes took from 1998-2002" 1998: Jeff Heerema (11th overall) 1999: David Tanabe (16th overall) 2000: Vaclav Nedorost (14th overall pick as traded to Colorado Avalanche) 2001: Igor Knyazev (15th overall) 2002: Cam Ward (25th overall) I know too many factors and permutations would affect the hypothetical selections... but it gives a good idea. not to mention with Fedorov, the Canes pick slots would probably worsen. Anyways, I definitely would have chosen to match... even in hindsight. Sign Filpulla soon darnit... get er done Kenny!
-
finally, a big name bites on one of these crazy offers from Russia. no doubt Avangard Omsk will treat him well... whether they will get their moneys worth, thats a completely different story.
-
anything that keeps this guy from SJ, Dallas, or Anaheim makes this deal worthwhile to RedWings fans
-
i must have missed it... was this deal signed before the deadline??
-
Avery will get erased with the tougher D-men in the West.
-
oh please... $20M buys a tonne of happiness.
-
the happiest guy, outside the Stuart camp, should be Kronwall. he gets a full season to free range and look for open-ice hits... knowing his compliment Stuart is back there to mop up.
-
imagine Avery and Ott... as annoying as a couple of mosquitos in your tent.
-
If this offer is real, i'm wondering why the Sundin camp isn't already all over this.
-
ouch. you win.
-
Well, you also dont buyout role players just to "set the table" for next year. Apparently Fletch doesn't believe the Laffs suck enough to compete for that first overall pick next year.
-
Anyone check out Eklund's site? the way Leaf fans are torching Sundin is almost comical. Hmmm... lets see, the team rips out its heart and soul (Tucker & Wellwood) and is on the verge of dumping its defensive talent (McCabe and Kubina). Sure sounds like a team moving in the right direction... NOT!
