The Habs got erased by a beatdown Philly team who were themselves embarassed in the next round. they'll get no love or respect from me, even with Tanguay and Sundin. And to Mack... I'd find it sheer poetry if Burke ended up extended in Anaheim.
-
I love Mats but he's not worth $7M. the Laffs can keep him. the Leafs had about $11M in cap space before this offer. a collosal chunk of that gets eaten up by talent they had last year. good luck.
-
So much for thinking Mats was available. He definitely won't leave the Leafs now.
-
remember when Datsyuk pondered an offer from AK Bars? I think these offers are token and half-heartedly genuine... to help promote these foreign leagues. In the end, all it accomplishes is a leverage tactic to aid the contract talks. Personally, I'd like to see Malkin take this offer. maybe the Pens could reap a transfer payment.
-
curious why the offer and its terms were leaked to the press... last I checked, Hossa had not accepted.
-
i'm withholding comment on Sundin... until after we see the direction the Leafs take come July 1st. I'd imagine he'd give the Leafs all the opportunity to take him back. I also can't imagine Ron Wilson running a plain-vanilla team next season...

Regardless of who gets signed, I hope Kenny looks for a forward that can crack our top two lines. In all seriousness, the Red Wings have been a one-line team ZDH, where the very same guys are expected to carry much of the PP and PK time as well.
-
draft a darn forward will ya Kenny!! despite your penchant for well-seasoned D, we've got a glut of upcoming defensive talent. pretty soon you'll have to start sloughing some of that young D off just for roster room.

my dream scenario... NHL lets Karmanos move his franchise to Detroit (Western conference), with hooks to renovate JLA. The Wings rightfully move into their new Arena and the Eastern conference. we become a two-conference town. sure we've been experiencing attendence woes. i bet it picks up when the Pistons slide back to mediocrity.

nope. not even close. the composer is 80 years old and living in UK... looking to cash in significantly. CanWest Global papers are speculating CTV paid upwards $2.5M - $3.5CDN for the full rights. collosal waste of money IMHO... "Good Old Hockey Game" by Stompin Tom Connors would do just fine in my book. in any case, we wouldnt want taxpayer run CBC wasting dough on a jingle would we?
-
let tsn have their song. whoop-de-doo. free advertising for HNiC every time they play that jingle. besides, in todays cable driven market the distinctions are blurred, akin to ABC/ESPN-TNT coverage for NBA. in the end, it just means more nat. coverage of Hockey in Canada... which doesn't hurt one iota! ps. CBC has the Beijing Olympics... they no longer have the rights once into the 2010 (Vancouver) Games.

the only way Stuart walks is if he doesn't want to be here. I hear his wife may have custody restrictions to stay in California (children from previous marriage). You can bet that Kenny already has a decent offer set out for him on the table.
-
why the big rush to sign this guy. sure hes got talent... but he'd probably just end up eating a role player's roster spot.
-
with Franz and Zets contracts looming, expect Kenny to take short term depth FAs. 1-2yr contracts that wont handcuff the team. no way should we expect a longterm pickup unless its a can't miss guy like Rafalsky.
-
Curious, does anyone know/remember what offseason moves were done by the Wings after the 1998 Cup? the 2002 Cup?? Will Ken Holland be aggressive with additions this summer?
-
total fallacy. Mats is at $5.5M now and his game is on the decline. he'd likely have to take a hometown discount, ala Steve Yzerman in his last couple years, to stay as captain. he'd probably have to take an even bigger discount to get picked up by a contender. the Toronto spin-doctors must be working overtime on this one... anything to lessen the spurn of losing their best player for essentially nothing. I feel he ends up with Ottawa or Vancouver.
-
Drake, Hasek, Chelios. Maltby should also go... but he may want to play out his contract.
-
congrats to our Wings for capping off one hell of a season! and congrats to my fellow fans for hanging in there... its all been a blast!

i can't remember when this forum started... Long time ago I used to be a member of the Freeper forum. when that closed down, this place wonderfully filled the void... but I just can't remember when.

Has Kronwall Been Our Best Defenseman In These Playoffs?
Grim replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
I'm not terribly impressed with Kronner on the point during the PP. he doesn't know when to shoot, nor does he keep pucks in the zone. Dare I say, put Sammy back on the PP point second unit?? Kronwall has an uncanny knack for open-ice hits. although I don't think Kronwall intimidates anyone... he sure does boost our team's momentum and morale. -
my biased observation... the Pens have a no-hit defense. our smallish forwards have no problem getting in behind them. The Penguins forecheck hasn't been terribly impressive in Game 1. Our veteran D has free reign over neutral ice, looking to make their transition passes. Having said all that, the Pens definitely have impressive speed on O. they need to capitalize on their chances early. a 5-on-3 or two and they are right back in this thing. The Wings definitely have to play disciplined early, especially in the igloo.
-
why bash the Ducks... they just weren't hungry enough this year. Bert and Schneids, despite their own troubles, thought they were following the money and the Cup. who would blame them? Avery has certainly come into his own in NY. His brash and abrasive style would do well in the East. he'd be pounded flat with the toughness in the West. Shanny's (God bless him) game is on the decline... he really ought to think about hangin em up. I could see him coming back for one more year, to perhaps Toronto. I definitely wouldnt attribute the Red Wings recent success to subtraction... but rather from the maturing play of Zets and Datsyuk. I truly wouldve never thunk it, but Zetterberg is playing out of his gourd. he is a bonafide threat every shift. I can't wait to see him tested in the Finals. If he continues to shine, look out! Foppa who???
-
Vlad was very skilled offensively. Dare I say, at the time he was on par if not better than anyone on the team at dead-stop puck handling. he was about as reliable as you could get on clear path breakaways. but his real attribute was his devastating hip checks... he was uncannily skilled at finding your center of gravity and would send you toppling. and he did it so subtly! I shed a tear in thought, everytime I see Nik get mentioned for all these awards. Oh what could have been Vladdy. terrible tragedy

sorry... our guys shouldn't take all the credit. the refs have been calling these games pretty well... much closer to what we'd see in the reg season. Our guys are florishing, as they should!
-
tiz prolly better Prongs didnt get a suspension... the refs and the League will probably watch him alot closer for the next few weeks.
