Figured it was something like that. His last shift was the one where he went end to end, with a sick one-handed dangle at center ice. He wasn't hit hard or anything, just fired off a shot that was blocked and then stopped in the corner and skated to the bench, no indication he was hurting.

Glad to have him....but what the hell is he doing turning down long term deals worth between 9-12 million a year? Either this guy REALLY wants to win a cup or he's not the most financially savvy guy out there....either way, I'm psyched he's here.

Folks, for the IPB images, right click the text and click view image.....at least that's what I do with Firefox. IE users might have to copy and paste the url of the image to their address bar. Jersey looks ok, want to see what the front looks like though.

damn, really was hoping Kozzie would come back..... now, I hope we get Guerin.

Wings still looking for a depth Defensemen
TheUltimateWingsFan replied to Johnny Diamonds's topic in General
This offseason (which were are barely into to) has been nuts. Kariya, gone. Gomez, gone. Drury, gone. Briere, gone. Smyth, gone. Tkachuk, gone. Nolan, gone. Bertuzzi, gone. Nylander, gone. Sykora, gone. J.Blake, gone. But if we get Kozzie back, I'll be happy. Guerin's available as well, and Marleau and Samsonov could probably be had too. -
Yeah, not sure I'm buying the "broken skate blade" story. It's the playoffs, and it's common to hide injuries with whatever story a team can come up with. I believe he left sometime in the middle of the 3rd period, and he didn't return in OT. With the intermission, that's a good 30-45 minutes......it doesn't take that long to repair a broken skate blade.

According to my quick little bit of research, Sakic is the 2nd oldest player in NHL history to score 100 points in a season (He recorded exactly 100 points this season at the age of 37). He's behind only Gordie Howe, who recorded his only 100 point season when he scored 103 in the 68-69 season at the age of 41. Very impressive, way to go Joe!

Here's the Wings-Bruins brawl from the 91-92 season. You'll notice at the end the Boston announcers mention fans getting involved, but the camera doesn't show anything. That was Stevie getting punched by a fan, here's a follow-up video showing the punch:

Babcock's right but he should left it in the dressing room. No need to embarrass Dom in public.

Neely did score 50 in 44 games, but his 50th goal came in his team's 66th game, therefore he's not in the club. In order for a player to be in the 50 in 50 club, he has to score his 50th goal in his team's 50th game or less. The reason for this is because when Richard did it there were only 50 games in a season, leaving no room for injury or the luxury of missing games. For more information on the 50 in 50 club look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_in_50 Neely was badass though.

Just thought I'd re-emphasize that Mike Bossy should be up there. He had a short career and it started 2 years prior to 1980, but since 1980 he still had 4 Cups, 1 Conn Smythe, seven 50 goal seasons (only Gretzky has had more), four 60 goal seasons (trailing only Gretzky who had 6), and six 100 point seasons. I hate to say it, but you could arguably put him ahead of Yzerman and Sakic......although there is something to be said for longevity. Edit: I should also mention he's 1 of 5 members of the 50 in 50 club, scoring 50 goals in their team's first 50 games. The club includes Richard, Bossy, Gretzky (who did it 3 times), Lemieux, and Brett Hull (who did it twice).
-
Ah man, now you're making me defend Roy. In short: 3 Vezinas, 4 Cups, & 3 Conn Smythes > 6 Vezinas, 2 Harts, & 1 Cup
-
Damn, it's hard to limit it to 10. I'd say the following 6 are locks: Gretzky Lemieux Jagr Bourque Lidstrom Roy The next 4 are probable: Yzerman Sakic Messier Hasek But somehow these fellas need to be mentioned: Chelios Stastny Hawerchuk Savard Hull Bure Selanne Goulet Kurri Coffey Also, if Mike Bossy is eligible, he should be a lock.

St. Louis kinda negates Vinny's chance at the Hart. Their stats are almost identical. Vinny has more goals, but not by much. The Hart should go to Crosby though, with Brodeur having an outside shot. Just last season the Pens were one of the worst teams in the league. But now they'll make the playoffs in the 4th or 5th seed. Does anyone think they would come close to that without Crosby? No. He should pretty much run away with the Hart.
-
I was pretty impressed with Hussey in the few games he's played so far. But, I think Ellis will stick around longer than either Hussey or Langfield, as he's shown a willingness to deliver hits, which I think Babcock realizes we need down the stretch and into the playoffs.

Alex Kovalev's amazing accuracy clip! WOW I'm speechless
TheUltimateWingsFan replied to kovatsyuk's topic in General
I could probably do the wrist shots near the net and be comparably accurate, though obviously mine don't have the power his has. No way could I do the one-handed backhanders though, those are crazy hard. Picking corners with slap-shots from center ice? Uh...no. I have a hard shot (again no where near Kovalev's), but from that distance, my accuracy consists of just getting it on net. And attempting to land the puck on top of the net is ridiculously hard. I've never even thought to try that, let alone from center ice. -
Also, despite a long drought, Ovechkin is still on pace for 48 goals and 101 points. If he is able to hit the 50 goal and 100 point mark again, he'll become only the 2nd player in NHL history to score at least 50 goals and 100 points in each of his first two NHL seasons. Gretzky was the only other player to do that.
-
Yeah, you know, like what happened in 2004 & 2006. He has a history of this type of thing.
-
I sure hope this isn't the beginning of Dom's annual out-for-season injury woes. It's a good thing we have a capable goalie in Osgood.
-
If he gets healthy, it will be an incredible deal by Holland. If not, oh well, we didn't give up much. I would've rather had Guerin, or maybe Nolan, but the asking price was probably too high. Way to go Kenny!!

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal
TheUltimateWingsFan replied to WingsFANstuckintheSOUTH's topic in General
I also think Calder shoots left.....leaving us with even fewer right shooting players. Quick name all our right-shooting players: Samuelsson Maltby Cleary Lang Chelios Langfield Uh.....is that it? -

Williams was great last year....all this Willy-hate is crazy. -

TheUltimateWingsFan replied to WingsFANstuckintheSOUTH's topic in General
Uh...I guess put me in the camp that doesn't understand this trade. Williams hasn't been producing much this year but he played well last year, and Calder's current stats are much worse. So, how is this an improvement? Seems to be a lot of hate on here for Williams, and I'm not sure I understand why.
