Datsyuk is the best player on the Wings right now. Yes, ahead of Lidstrom.
-
San Jose is bigger than we are. Not much we can do about that. They average size on their second line is something like 6'2 and over 200 lbs. And to be honest, as much as I'd like to see our team hit like they did, I didn't think the physicality stopped the Wings from being physical in any regard. Bring up Helm, who likes to hit, Ericsson who is a monster, and send a mid pick to the Sens for Neil and our grit should be adequate.

LOLOLOLO so you think, as a member of LGW, we should trade Osgood for a 4th and a happy meal? You added the happy meal because you're about 11 years old, aren't you? Its ok, you can call dibs on the toy. Seriously, there is nothing more annoying, nor discrediting to your debate tactics, to not only use hyperbole, but to put words in other peoples mouths as well. Try actually debating the issue, and you might not look like such a slappy.

How do you know hes not a great starter when hes never had that role? He happened to do quite well in Pittsburgh holding down the fort while MAF was out. If Conklin were the "starter" regardless, he'd still be playing only 50-60% of the games. Thats simply how he rolls. Detroit hasn't had a "starter" in the traditional sense in quite some time.

Again, its great to see Osgood make those huge stops, and we all commended him for those when he made them. But that Ducks game was another example of Osgood's calling card this season. The first goal that was scored on him he should've had. Yes, I love it when he steals a goal, but when he becomes generous and gives it right back, he hasn't made a difference. Look through my posts through this entire season, and I avoid ranting on goaltenders (in fact, I praised him when there were 5 goals scored on him in Dallas because he was the best player on the ice), but now its become an issue because our coach chose to look past Osgood's glaring inconsistencies and played him when he shouldn't have. Thats a scary indicator of what might happen in the playoffs. And its not unlike the Red Wings organization to reward past performance and reputation with undeserved rewards. It was the same case with Hasek last season. Osgood was playing much better than Hasek all season, yet Hasek still got the start.

I said that at the beginning of the game, before we had lost. Look back through the thread, I made the same comment.
-
Yes, for those who can't see past the intentionally misdirected judgment to see that he was basically saying Nabby made the stops he needed to, Osgood didn't.
-
Osgood at best has been inconsistent. The stats back that up. There are really only a handful of games this season where he hasn't given up a really soft goal. Usually, hes good for a few great stops and will let in a softie or two. That performance negates itself. Tonight, unfortunately, he didn't make a single big stop, and let in at least 1 goal, that he should've had, and thats being generous. Ultimately, this isn't about Ozzie playing terribly overall. He hasn't. But he has ben mediocre. And thats fine when we play mediocre teams, but not when we play great teams, and even less so when we're in the playoffs.

I think you're missing the point. This isn't really about bragging rights. This about playoff seeding. The Sharks got two points tonight while the Wings lost a chance to gain two points. The Sharks have the best record in the NHL at home. They're the only competition for the Wings in the West. If the WCFs come down to the Wings and Sharks, the Sharks are playing a game 7 at home. Considering how they play at home, thats a big advantage for them, even if only mentally.

Haha I don't think I've ever heard him put so many "ohh,,ahh,,uhh,,ehhh,,ooohs" in a sentence before.
-
Babcock just spells it out. The Wings didn't score on their breakaways, San Jose did. "That was the difference in the game."
-
Why are people saying we were dominated? The only way they were dominated was by San Jose's hitting game, and for the most part, that didn't affect the Wings ability to perform in this game. Detroit played awesome offense. San Jose played awesome offense. Wings played so-so defense. Sharks played so-so defense. Sharks had okay goaltending. Wings had poor goaltending.
-
Thats the most ill-informed post on this board. Osgood is a shadow of the man he was last season.
-
Because San Jose had played the night before and had no energy. Same excuse Wings fans used when we lost to the Sharks the first time. Works both ways. This was the first time the Wings and Sharks played at 100%, and the one difference tonight was goaltending and physicality.
-
Nabokov made the saves he needed to. Osgood did it. Somebody please name a good save Osgood made tonight. If you can't make one good save against the best team in the league, you arent giving your team a chance. Osgood was horrific tonight. And for the record, because no ones talking about, San Jose was missing two of their regular Dmen tonight.
-
Nabokov is making the tough stops. Plain and simple. San Jose is missing 2 of their top 5 Dmen also. Blake and Lukowich.
-
For the record, these same arguments we are having about Osgood we had about Hasek last season. Edit: wording
-
No we can't, because there is no argument. Name a decent save that Osgood has made tonight. Now see if you can count up all the juicy rebounds hes given up.
-
San Jose has let Detroit through the zone to both Cleary and Datsyuk basically walk in on Nabby. The reason you don't immediately remember that is because a save was made, instead of a goal being scored.
-
You do know that a goaltender gets paid to make the tough stops right? If the Wings wanted a guy who just stood in front of the net and stopped whatever hit him, they'd be paying Howard half the money to start the game.
-
Its because of goals like that that you cant give up questionable goals. Osgood didn't have much chance on that one, but if it he had made a stop or two earlier, that wyouldn't be the go-ahead goal right now.
-
And there it is...
-
Haha good call.
-
I mean in this period, as in the game winner. And like I said before, usually when Sammy plays like s***, he scores a goal.
-
Usually when Sammy doesn't look good overall, he ends up scoring a goal.
