SCF GAME 7 GDT: Penguins 2 at Red Wings 1

Stupid, stupid penalty to take. -
Its honestly amazing that this team has made it this far, and through over 100 games of NHL hockey, have had only a handful of games where they played to their potential, and only about 10-12 where they've played at 80% or above.

So is Datsyuk....And Lidstrom...

Haha. Maybe you can reduce yours down to terrestrial levels, eh? -
I doubt Minnesota would trade Koivu - hes their guy - but Harding, a pick, and a young forward makes a lot of sense, especially considering Minny is about to lose Gaborik, Harding is on the trading block, and Ottawa needs a goalie (although maybe theyre content with Elliot?)

If Ottawa wants big names in return, and forgoes rebuilding... To Ott: Marleau, Cheechoo (9.3M) To SJS: Heatley, Fisher (11.7M) San Jose gets the better of the superstars, but Ottawa gets the better of the contracts. Probably needs some balancing. Superstar for superstar, overpaid grinder for overpaid grinder. I could see Ottawa thinking they could get Cheechoo going again, alongside Spezza, and I could see San Jose having interest in Fisher because of their playoff woes. Fisher is definitely one of those guys that plays the game with a lot of energy and heart. Hes overpaid, but he brings a lot to the table, and could be a good insurance policy in case Pavelski regresses. If Ottawa wants a rebuild: To STL: Heatley To OTT: One of Backes, Oshie, Perron, or Berglund (man, STL has ridiculous young forward talent), plus some balancers (picks or prospects). I could see Heatley being interested in both teams.

You mean back when the league was still heavily clutch-and-grab? And then after that when the Wings were loaded with lazy veterans who had a fear of back-checking? You mean back when Datsyuk was struggling along with guys like Shanahan, Fedorov, Hull, and Lang? When the Wings could barely average 2 goals a game in the playoffs? Two completely different scenarios. Hossa is a veteran. Hossa signed here to play for the cup. Look at how Dallas Drake played during the playoffs and finals. He was TWICE the player he usually is. Hossa is HALF the player he usually is.

Its pretty simple. Babcocks game plan at the Igloo is as follows: 1) Get the puck in the defensive zone 2) Gain the red line 3) Dump the Puck 4) Go for the change You want to know why everyone looks like s***? Because the Red Wings have played a certain type of game for 99% of the season, and at the Igloo, Babs has decided that the Wings are just going to "weather the storm" and sit back while focusing on the match-ups while playing dump and chase... Newsflash: The Red Wings are the anti-dump and chase team. They are a puck possession team. They rely on carrying the puck through the neutral zone or hitting streaking forwards with a pass to get in behind the defense. How many times did the Wings get in behind the Pens defense tonight? Once? Twice? This game was lost because Babcock - for whatever reason - thinks a skilled puck, possession team is going to win a dump-and-chase, board battle game. This game was lost along the boards tonight. The only way you succeed in a dump-and-chase game is a strong forecheck and winning board battles. The board battles were lost. The forecheck was non-existent. And the offense suffered, by having to clear the offensive zone nearly every time they entered it.

Its one thing to play poorly in the playoffs. But its a whole different beast when you play poorly in the playoffs on a team you signed with for the sole purpose of winning the cup.

Rob Scuderi has been a monster these playoffs. Absolute beastly. He has been more consistent than any of our Dmen - including Lidstrom - and his shotblocking skills are off the charts. Plus, he actually has hockey sense instead of running interference every play a la Gill and Orpik.

I love all the folks blaming the refs. You think Detroit only deserved 2 penalties? This game was evenly called. In fact, the Malkin cross-check was a cheapie. The Wings got outplayed in every regard. The Pens were better defensively, and better offensively. -

If DRAPER of all people scores, you know Zetterberg, Franzen, Datsyuk, Hossa, etc, all feel like idiots right now. Do you really want to be outscored by DRAPER of all people? C'mon Hossa -

Oh man, I totally forgot about this dream I had a week ago. The Wings were down 1-0, and were minutes away from losing the game, but the Wings scored a late goal, and went on to win 2-1 in 0T. Ozzie stood on his head in the game. I really hope that was a prophecy. -

Hopefully the Wings saved all their energy for the 3rd period, and are gonna blow this thing wide open. 2 goals from Hossa, 1 goal from Cleary. -

His skating and strength is on a whole new (lower) level right now. It has to be an injury. We'll find out once the series is over. -

This is the perfect time for Hossa to get his customary pair of goals for the round. -

This is precisely what I was afraid of. This is the Penguins. You don't sit back and "weather the storm" with them. Yet thats what the Wings did in Game 3, 4, and for most of Game 6. I was really hoping they would've realized that whats given them success on the road is playing a simple puck possession game - not overhauling their entire game plan by sitting back and playing dump and chase. -

Not all of us are so easily comforted by Starbucks and "juju". The Wings better come out like an entirely different team than the one that was getting beaten to pucks, knocked on their asses, and putting on clinic of ineptitude in a potential Cup-winning game. -
