1/12 GDT: Dallas Stars 5, Red Wings 4 (OT)

Went right off Stuart. In fact, if Stuart wasn't wearing a Wings jersey, you'd think he was TRYING to score that goal. He even turned his body to facilitate the deflection.

The Wings are getting lazy in their own zone. Stuart with the goal.

At this rate, Detroit is going to single-handedly eliminate the Stars from playoff contention.

Osgood is doing an awesome job of seeing the puck tonight.

Its pretty simple to see why Hank isn't producing. Hes become the set up man on a line where Cleary is an overrated finisher and Hossa is an individualistic performer. Hank has set up the tap in in front of the net so many times this season, and no one can seem to finish it. HOLY s*** THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!!

Agreed. Wings don't look good, but Announcers sound much, much worse.

Why is this idiot going on as if the Red Wings penalty kill can't stop a goal? Its the best in the league at home, idiot. Do your homework. I miss HD.

    Midseason Awards

Like you said, Backstrom isn't where he is without Ovechkin. Not only is Ovechkin the most dynamic goal scorer in the league, but he shots the puck ALL the time. The likelihood for Backstrom to pick up an assist playing alongside Ovy is downright ridiculous.

    Vinny Lecavalier on the move?

Lets not assume that playing for the Habs is every francophone's dream. Its a similar case to how us Red Wings fans think about players around the league, except magnified. You know how half the time you hear people make the justification that "well the Red Wings are SUCH a good organization that anyone would be CRAZY not to want to play with us." Same exact thing with the Habs. They think just because they're a great hockey city, compounded with the fact that a guy is french-canadian, hed be desperate to play there. Tanguay was actually pretty vocal about NOT wanting to go to the Habs when the rumors started to circulate he'd be traded there.

    Vinny Lecavalier on the move?

Sadly, I actually laughed at that.

    Jiri Hudler

Thats exactly why I didn't add "Canadian" or "North American" into GMR's criterion.

If the Phoenix Coyotes folded today . . .

While thats true, being a s***ty team doesn't necessarily equate to being a poor team. They'd probably go with something similar to the '05 draft although in reality I don't see this happening in the near future at all.

If the Phoenix Coyotes folded today . . .

No offense, bud, but you need to work on this a little bit longer. For starters, as someone else mentioned, Hanzal isn't on this list. Second, no way in hell would the Thrashers take Jovocop over Mueller, Hanzal, or Jokinen. Third, Michalek would be WAY higher. On most nights, hes the Yotes best Dman and is a perennial candidate for most underrated Dman in the league. Offense aside, hes the best Dman the Yotes have. Also, you have guys like Lisin and Porter being drafted AFTER Todd Fedoruk and Ken Klee. That would never, ever happen. Sorry to say, but back to the drawing board.

If the Phoenix Coyotes folded today . . .

Its unlikely that they fold immediately, but theres speculation that the NHL might be contracted in a few years. Reports are that the Coyotes are so deep in debt that the NHL is overseeing their management operations, or has at least toyed with the idea. At the very least, the Yotes are in bad, bad shape. They just laid off about 10% of their staff a few days ago.

    Jiri Hudler

I really don't think Hudler and Franzen are ultimately going to get the bloated contracts that have been handed out the past few years. The sense I get from hearing some of these GMs talk lately is that most of them are scared s***less about what might happen to the cap this year and next. That said, with all the hype surrounding Franzen, I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see someone pitch a big offer for him, seeing him as the "missing piece" (ahem, pittsburgh). Hudler, I don't see that as much, even though his statistics warrant a decent paycheck, just because his name isn't tossed around as much throughout the NHL. Ultimately, though, one solution I could see to the situation is if Kenny has the feeling that Franzen is looking for 4-4.5, and Hudler goes for Cleary type money on a shorter-term contract (say, 2 years at 2.85), then be the first guy calling up Erik Cole on July 1st and pitch him an offer. Hes essentially the Canadian version of Franzen, except a little more physical. Coming off a bad year in Edmonton, he'd come at a discount.

    Jiri Hudler

Hudler is 4th on the team in ESP. He has 20 Even strength points to Zetterbergs 23, who ranks 3rd on the team. He ranks 9th on the team in ES TOI, ahead of only Kopecky, Maltby, and Draper. He does more with his even strength time than Samuelsson, Franzen, Cleary, and Filppula - all bigger guys than him. In short, he does more with less. To say that he gets dominated physically is a joke and is likely a result of your perception of how he plays, rather than how he actually plays. Its no secret you have a penchant for big, rough and tumble guys, of which Hudler is not.
  22. YoungGuns1340

    Jiri Hudler

He doesn't get PP time because hes not as good offensively as 8 other players ahead of him. You're Finish. You're biased. End of story.
  23. YoungGuns1340

    Jiri Hudler

Thats great and all. Doesn't change the fact that the Wings can't afford to pay a two-way forward 3M just to put up 35 points when they have a guy in GR who could up at least 1/2 of that production in a season for a 6th of the price. With the uncertainty of the cap future, you can't overpay for 1-3 years just to maybe squeak out an underpayment in the last few years.

    Keeping "The Big 3"

New York, Toronto, Montreal, and Detroit would be loaded with superstars if that wasn't kept in check. The fact that a team like New York (and Detroit) could once support 80-90M payrolls and now function with half of that payroll tells you how regulated the funny business is.

Flip vs. Huds isn't really an argument anymore.
