The name that intrigued me most was Jarome Iginla, the quintessential power forward whos physicality is almost always the #1 reason hes ranked ahead of guys like Hank and Datsyuk.
-
Haha, that was good for a laugh. The Wings definitely had to hit rock bottom before even thinking about competing for another cup.

Good thing New York sacrificed Shanahan's presence on the team by offering 6M to Wade Redden and 5M to Roszival.

No one has complained in the past 5-7 games or so, when the Wings finally remembered how to play defense. They've finally been able to shake off the Stanley Cup Hangover. Fortunately, it only took them half a season, and not the entire season, as was the case with Anaheim last year. To be honest, though, the Wings SHOULD be able to keep a pace of 7 out of 10 games, if not better. They have 3 Dmen who are capable top 2 Dmen, they have 5 Dmen who are capable top 4 Dmen, they have 2 goalies who are capable starters, they have 9 forwards who are capable top 6 forwards, and they have 3 players who are capable of being the #1 player on 70% of teams in this league. No other team in the league has that kind of depth. If the Wings could add some sort of sparkplug to their 4th line, which is more often than not outworked by the oppositions 4th line, then they would have a team for the ages (if they dont already). I honestly can't think of many games this season where, if the Wings had played as well as they can, they would have still lost.

Stafford would look sick in a Wings jersey. And I know Kenny agrees, since he was asking for Stafford when the Wings were in trade talks with the Sabres a year or two back.

Slept with the owner/GM/president/directors wife. He found out during the 2nd intermish. -
Who cares? Now that our defense has taken their collective heads out of their asses, we could throw Howard in net for all I care.
-
Woah, really? Where did you hear that? Thats class at its finest.
-
If I were a prospect, I would play below my level of capability, just so I would have a chance of being drafted by the Red Wings.
-
That can be deceiving. And I'm not trying to take anything away from Mason. Like I said, if you didn't know any better, you'd probably think he was a veteran with the way he looks in net. I just think the way the Jackets have been playing defense lately has been beyond impressive. And considering Hitchock's first goal in coming to the Jackets was to turn a guy like Rick Nash into a defensively responsible player, I wouldn't be surprised if the defense of the Jackets is insulating Mason in the same way that the Wings defense frequently does for our goaltenders. Now, mind you I've only seen Mason play twice - once against the Sharks and of course against the Wings - but in those games, the shots taken were almost entirely from the outside, and the Jackets defense did a great job of keeping the opposition there.
-
The Jackets are far from horrible. They have great goaltending and maybe an even better defense. If they ever get healthy up front - hell, they might even add a forward at the deadline - then I would watch out for them. With the way they're playing right now, all they need to do is score a goal or two and theyre set.
-
I don't know. What I noticed from our game the other night against the Jackets was how well the defense played. I mean they made VERY few mistakes. Mason was facing a lot of easy shots. To me, he looked like a good goalie who was greatly insulated, but not the world-beater hes being made out to me. That said, he DOES look like a veteran when hes out there. He looks very comfortable in net and looks primed to have a great career, but goaltenders are funny creatures. He'll undoubtedly drop back to earth some point soon. In the end, I think the guy thats not getting enough credit is Ken Hitchcock. If the Jackets carry on their play, with the beat up lineup that they have, and perhaps sneak into the 8th spot, I'd give Hitchcock the Adams without a 2nd thought.

There may be a will to accept 7M per season, but not the will to accept 5 or 6M, which is what its going to take at this point.

I challenge folks on this board to 1) find a 20 year old who is far and away their teams #1 defensive forward and 2) find a player that is relied upon to be their teams #1 shutdown forward that can still produce at a high rate offensively. Undoubtedly thats an easy task when your primary even strength assignment is to stop top forwards from scoring, as opposed to doing the scoring yourself.
-
Yes, because players who are defensive liabilities are frequently their teams #1 PKing forward, playing nearly 4 SH minutes per game, all at the age of 20 years old. As for the trade in question for the PENS, yeah its not a great deal because the Pens have ZERO wingers and a shallow defensive corps that is heavily banged up. The last thing they need to do is put 4M into another centerman...but that doesn't change the fact that the deal in it of itself is hardly the albatross that the so-called "informed" members on this board think it is.

29 goals was an abberation....yet hes on pace this year for 24 goals? As a 20 year old? Okay. Not to mention hes on pace for at least 40 points again this year?
-
Wings are the first team to hit 150 goals this season. On pace for over 300.
-
Hopefully the Pens lose tonight to boot.
-
Awesome effort. One of my favorite games so far this season.
-
f*** man. I thought we would've gotten another out of that. That was intense!
-
"Oooh! Hes hot! Give it to him." Oh, Ken.
-
Haha yeah...there he goes crashing the net.
-
Man, is Filppula scared of the net or something? Every time he gets close to it, he stops and passes the puck backwards.
-
YEAH ZETTERBERG GETS ONE!!!!!
-
Haha WHAT? I didnt even see it!
