12/27 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Avalanche 4, (SO)
YoungGuns1340 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Why do people have such short memories? Last time Hossa was in the shootout he took a cocky little wrister as he coasted in on net. In the next shootout, Babcock put Hudler in and he absolutely demolished whoever the goaltender was for the game winner (was it Chicago?). Up til tonight, Hudler was 1 for 2 and Hossa was 1 for 2, with Hudler coming off the most recent good shootout performance and being the hotter hand overall. -

Reminds me of Jussi Jokinen using his same move over and over and over again for about 10 or 11 times without any goalie catching on. -

Its not like Hossa has a better shootout record than Hudler this year. -

Shootout should be an advantage Detroit without Stastny and Sakic. -

Ehh..Hah...what do I know? They seemed to be guys that gave good effort, which are some of the best you can have. Obviously none of those guys are anything more than 30ish point forwards and a physical Dman, but they seemed to fill out the roster better than what the Thrash have now. -

Feels like one of those old Avalanche-Red Wings games? Uhh, no. Sorry Altitude Dudes. -

Yup, Zhitknik was terrible, but I thought guys like Sim, Mellanby, Metropolit, and Sutton were good guys to fill out the roster. -

Its too bad that the Thrashers were never able to build on the decent team they had a few years ago. I feel bad for Thrashers fans that have to deal with Waddell. -

How you take 5 seconds to make an off-sides call? -

That's EXACTLY what Kozlov did with the Wings. Scored clutch goals, especially in the playoffs. -

Yeah, I don't know who the guys are, but I remember Mike Haynes days of the rivalry. Its either not him or hes just toned it down. -

No, LEBDA is NOT on a two-way contract. I was referring to some (not all) of the guys in Grand Rapids. Lebda is obviously on a one-way contract and has to go through waivers. And No, I want to move KRONWALL for Volchenkov. Am I that obtuse in my posts? Guess I need to edit them, because you completely misunderstood it, 100%. As for Flip, this debate can go on all day, night, week, month, year long. Its a personal opinion that some agree with, others dont. Personally, I think 3M is too much to spend on a guy who doesn't have good offensive vision and is going to primarily function as a two-way forward with .5 ppg potential. Thats fine and all, but to me all he'll ever be is a lesser version of what we have too much of. I see his value in trading him either for farm stock or for a physical presence that can manage the 30 points on the season that Flip is headed for. -

I don't know....thats usually the way Daniels responds to a goal against. I've been watchng/listening closely this whole game, and they've been pretty reflective of the game, pretty much like the Wings feed on FSN. Mad props to the play of the Avs in the first, and then nothing but praise for the Wings coming back in the second. -

Is anyone else listening to the guys on altitude? They are incredibly unbiased, giving the Wings props and everything. -

I'm not sure what you mean about the definition of change. You said it was NOT a change, but now you're agreeing with me that it IS a change to move a player and have someone replace him (i.e. a difference, change, move, etc.). Congrats on agreeing with me? As for moving Lebda, yes, but I'm guessing you don't understand how it works to bring up guys who are on 2-way contracts. Moving Lebda would be enough cap space for us to bring up Helm full time, or bring up Ericsson, Leino, and Helm variably for a game or two, for several games, or for any combination of games to give us some jump throughout the rest of the season. No, you can't bring up Ericsson or Leino full-time, but you have plenty of space for roster movement, which is something that the Wings desperately need and is also the reason why the calls to bring up Leino, Ericsson, and Downey have not been heard. As for Volchenkov, he makes 2.5M for the next 5 years, would be the best PKer on our team, is a better hitter than Kronwall AND Stuart, and is still a year younger than Kronwall. And yes, Ericsson is better than Lebda right now in all areas, and could replace Kronwall's absence on the PP point. The reason hes not on this team is because he makes too much. As for Filppula, the best time to move him would be now, when his age is still something to take into consideration for teams looking at that fat contract. -

Which he wouldn't have done if Drake had been riding the pine and had no impact on the team. Theres an obvious correlation between the fact that Drake was winning his first and how well he played. Lidstrom said in the post-cup winning game conference that he knew he was going to give it to Drake in the 2nd round, after his energy was key in winning the first round. Again, as a 4th liner. -

Yes, moving players that are already there IS a change. I don't know how else to argue with you other than to use logic. You are aware that moving a player would require someone to take his place, yes? To start with, moving Lebda so we have the cap space to bench a guy like Kopecky and bring up Helm for example. Or do the same in favor or Ericsson. Or trade Kronwall - yes, Kronwall - for a guy like Volchenkov in addition to trading Lebda which would allow us to bring up Ericsson, get tougher and stronger defensively in our top 4, and have a more even offensive balance in the top 6, as opposed to a pure top 3 that is offensively inclined on the back-end. Also, trading Filppula should definitely be taken into consideration. This team has plenty of players who a great defensive forwards, and thats essentially what Filppual is. A third line checking forward who isn't all that good at checking. I'm sure theres an interesting trade option out there for Detroit which would allow them to add Flip in exchange for any combination of a good pick, a good prospect, a hard hitter with decent offensive abilities a la Torres or an energetic third liner type who can double as a 2nd liner a la Dan Cleary. You can never have too many of those. -

The difference there is that the Red Wings have better centers playing in the AHL than Atlanta has on their top line. And thats not even touching the defense or wingers. -

There is a middle ground between winning one goal games, while giving up 3+ per. 4-1 and 4-2 games are hardly dominating, but they are reasonable expectations for a team that has 8 potential 20 goal scorers, a slew of all-stars and a couple sure-fire future Hall of Famers. And I'm not defending those who have thrown tantrums and stopped watching - as far as I've seen in this thread, those folks are in the minority - but its incredible the amount of folks on this board who immediately jump to bashing anyone who criticizes the Wings.
