If you want to have an intelligent conversation, I'm up for it. But if you're going to jump immediately in with the hyperbole, then its pointless. Yeah. Trade the entire team for a chance at Hedman and Tavares. Yup. Thats exactly what I said. And any change is a difference, smart guy. Do you even remember who Lidstrom first passed the cup to after they one? Yeah...just one guy that made a "subtle difference."

That should be *** for tat. Losing your best defenseman can easily be assuaged when your opponent has lost their two best forwards, yet the Avs have 3 goals in the first period alone.

My favorite part of this game is that Babcock split up Hudler and Cleary. THE ONLY TWO GUYS ON THIS TEAM THAT HAVE BEEN CLICKING. ******* idiotic.

I think we need to stop using the term "fair weather." The Wings have been underperforming for several months now, and it looks like energy to bring on the comeback is dwindling by the day. Yeah, I'd blame someone for skipping town after a week of bad weather, but with nearly 3 months of foreboding, I'm not sure I'd blame people now that the hurricane may be on the horizon. You can come up with band-aid after band-aid after band-aid, but eventually you just need to make some changes.

The defense actually hasn't been that bad. Colorado hasn't had any good chances at even strength, but they do have a TON of jump and are making their powerplays count. 5 on 5 our defense is fine, but our offense is downright brutal. I've almost forgotten the days when you could actually make an argument for Datsyuk and Zetterberg being comparable to Crosby and Malkin in offense.

In the information age, teams can look at every game the Wings have played this season and come up with a simple plan - Play your best hockey in the 1st period, play physically against the Wings at every turn, embellish anything that might look like a penalty, and trap once you have the lead. That way, when they Wings start to play in the third period, they'll have too big a mountain to climb.

Have our forwards done ANYTHING this period? Its like we barely get into the zone, run around a bit bobbling the puck, then take some lame shot that a whaling net could stop.

Its amazing how hard it is for us to enter the other teams zone, and how easy it is for them to enter ours.

Ref did a nice job on the cherry pick there.

Injuries shouldn't be an excuse. Lidstrom may be out, but so are the Avs two best forwards.

Why do refs call battles like that just because it looked ugly? That was a shoulder to shoulder hit. Nothing wrong with that other than a good hockey battle.

I hate players like Liles and Crosby - they always look like they're about to cry.

Did Babs split up Hudler and Cleary? The two guys who have had the best chemistry together lately?

    whats wrong with zetterberg?

Zetterberg has played about 2 games with Hudler this season. The "Hudler only plays well on the 3rd line" argument is bulls***. Hes been our most consistent forward all season and has looked better than Hank, Hossa, AND Datsyuk at various points during the season. Before Hudler came to the Wings, it was his "poor work ethic." Once he came to the Wings, he was "too small to compete." Now that hes easily proved those excuses wrong, he's "not suited for the 2nd line." Right.

    whats wrong with zetterberg?

The problem is his line. Theres really only one ideal scenario on Hank's line, and thats a good set up from Hank to Franzen. A good set up from Hank to Sammy is likely going to result in a poor scoring chance because of Sammys typically poor shot placement. And while Franzen and Sammy are decent passers in their own right, their ability to find Hank on open ice is all but non-existant. If the obvious pass is there, Franzen and Sammy can make it efficiently, but otherwise, Hanks not getting the puck. And Hank knows that. You can tell every time hes on the ice that hes trying to do WAY too much. As myself and others said last night while watching the game, Cleary and Hudler need to be promoted to Hank's line. Cleary is our best player right now, and brings energy every night. And Hudler has become our 2nd best playmaker. He is ALWAYS finding the open man and making the right play in the offensive zone. And his size? Rarely a factor. Hudler might've been one of the few guys that wasn't repeatedly pummeled and made ineffective last night because of the physical play. With that said, as long as Hank's play isn't affecting our wins, then I'm fine with it. The last thing we need is a career year from a guy whos in line for a big paycheck.

Rumor: Hossa leaving after this season

I'd also like the Wings to trade Lebda for Chara, Sammy for Ovy, Drapes for Malkin, and Conks for Lundqvist.

12/26 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Predators 3

Hey, man. Whatever you have to do to win. I said it earlier in the thread - If I was a Preds fan, I'd be proud of this win tonight, because they played with a ton of energy and got physical play from almost everyone. As Wings fans know, that kind of play can take your team to a different level if talent can't get you there. Unfortunately, the Wings are having the inverse problem this season.

    R.I.P. The Knitting Lady

Thats great. They said she was a great grandmother to NINE kids, so I'm betting she was pretty old. She probably had seen everything there is to see in the game of hockey. Wouldn't be surprised if she was a fan for 50, 60, maybe even 70 years. Thats nuts to think about. Great lady. RIP.

12/26 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Predators 3

Yeah, well the Wings had their puck on their stick quite a bit on the powerplay opportunities they had, they just really didn't do a whole lot with it. Thats probably why you got that impression. Sadly, the Wings played a pretty good game defensively tonight, but with their pack of all stars up front, couldnt bring it home. Boring, lethargic effort. Chalk it up to the holidays, which apparently only the Red Wings celebrated.

And props to Nashville. They kept the Wings asleep and shy by keeping them to the perimeter and on the ground. The Wings were either asleep or getting canned by a number of Preds tonight. Looked like some of the opening games in Slapshot.

Yes. Hossa took SEVERAL MILLION LESS to play with the Wings THIS YEAR when the retained their ENTIRE CUP WINNING ROSTER. What about that do you not understand as being a special circumstance? And this is IGNORING the fact that the cap will fall and we're already tight against the cap with 3 big raises to give to guys not including Marian Hossa. But yeah, Hossa is going to sign for 7M when he could make 9 after we had to trade Samuelsson, Hudler, and let Franzen go to retain him. Right. This is beyond wishful thinking. Its delusion.
