The fact that they Wings actually start playing once they're down and out, and it typically leads to more goals for than goals against, says A LOT about what the Wings can do IF they give it their all. All they have to do is come to play. If they do that, they compete. If they don't, they get hounded. Its a simple answer. ******* give a good effort.

I'm not saying they aren't. Hull was a good player. Shanny was a good player. Fedorov was a good player. But what happens when they've had a charmed career, have personal and team accolades to their name, and its becoming harder to get the body moving like it used to?

Too bad this penalty came with 16 minutes left. If we had about 3 minutes left, I could hope for a shortie, knowing our team only likes to turn it on in the last few minutes.

I dont want to make it sound like I'm ungrateful for having him - hes a great offensive defenseman. But do we need offensive defenseman? We need Dmen who can make a decent outlet pass, but we dont need pretty passes and goals from our Dmen. What we really need are Dmen who police the slot and the front of the net. What we need are Dmen who can pin any forward in along the boards. What we need are guys who are willing to fight for the puck - be the first man on the puck. This team needs a few more hard-hat players. The said thing is, I dont expect any trades out of this team outside of maybe a minor move. This eerily reminds me of the years where we as fans cried for hard-working, gritty players and nothing came from Holland until we had suffered through 2 or 3 bad playoff oustings.

Thats something you fix through trades. Since we have no cap space, we either sit on a spolied group of guys, or we make a substantial trade for some hunger, work ethic, and energy.

Im pissed Brian Rafalski has a NTC. Offense is not our problem. Defense in our own zone is the problem. I would kill for a guy like Anton Volchenkov on this team. And Ottawa just so happens to be looking for a puck moving Dman. Every time Rafalski gets pushed off the puck, lets a guy get pass him and move into the slot, and doesnt keep the puck in, it reminds me of the reason Holland didnt offer 5+ million to Schneider. Someone didnt do their homework, because Rafalski isnt much better, if at all.

I've been saying this since the off-season. Bringing back nearly 100% of the team that JUST won the cup is going to negatively affect your work ethic. 91% of this hockey team has 1-4 cups. Theres a reason the last team that won back-to-back cups in the 15 years also had fallen teammates to fight for.

The Wings have 80 goals against. Just to give you an idea of who we're sharing that territory with, the only teams worse than us are Toronto, Atlanta, Dallas, the Isles, and the Caps. Of those teams, the Caps are the only ones not sitting at the bottom of their division.

I agree. Theres no better way to create a false sense of security than to play like s*** and keep winning games.

Have Datsyuk and Zetterberg been out for a shift together yet? I dont know how you can change up the lines and not go with the ZDH line.

Talent wise, I think the only team that can compare is the '02 team. In terms of work ethic, yeah. You might say that. This isn't something new. This reminds me of the way teams like the Oilers and Flames owned us. We didn't win battles, didnt have energy, wouldnt get our hands dirty, and ultimately got pushed and shoved out of the playoffs. I dont expect it to be any different this year, although I doubt well enter the playoffs as 1st or 2nd seed.

Maybe he'll ask for a trade at the deadline? I bet he feels like a ******* idiot. The Pens are carrying on fairly well despite being without their best Dman. And I bet they've got more hunger as a team than the Wings do. In fact, I know they do.
