Considering how symbolic the game is, theres no way anyone but Ozzie can start. This game isn't about the current Red Wings team vs the current Blackhawks team. Its about the entities that are the Red Wings and Blackhawks. Its about their history, their legacies. With that in mind, a true Red Wings goaltender should start. Ozzie has embodied the Red Wings for a good decade now. Hes a Red Wing through and through.

Yeah thats the way I see it. A win is a win is a win. I just don't think that win signified some huge jump to elite status quite yet. Can we get there still? Yes. But I think we still need to take a few more steps in the right direction. Last night was one of those steps. Hopefully in the coming weeks we can manage some more.

I totally agree with this, but when you look at his offensive production, his defensive play, and his contract, his questionable decisions are a small price to pay, and they almost never occur in the defensive zone where it could really burn us.

Even more reason for Avery to shut the hell up. She dumped him...and moved on to Phaneuf. What does that say about Phaneuf in comparison to Avery. As much as I think Avery is a ******* loser for half the s*** that comes out of his mouth, NO ONE in the NHL gets the NHL more outside press than Sean Avery. So what if hes running his mouth? Thats certainly not suspension worthy. Especially when you consider some of the dangerous plays that guys make. cough *Pronger *cough..

If Howard wants the Wings to give him a chance, HE needs to give them a reason to.

Whos calling Sammy out? Even the folks who hate Sammy have been quick to say good things about him. Frankly, the only issue I have with Sammy is his continual poor shot placement - but thats more or less Sammy's only glaring weakness. Which is too bad, because from the looks of it lately, hes got a pretty decent backhander that I wish he'd use more often.

Because it was a factor that was taken into consideration when the Wings lost to the Ducks after back to backs? And the Ducks have had 3 games in four nights, going from Anaheim to Carolina to Detroit. But whatever.

I'll give you that. But typically when I say a team dominated, I mean they would've dominated no matter the circumstances. Semantics I guess. They definitely had the energy and fire, but the errors might have come with a little more pressure, but then again thats a hypothetical as well..

I did say that other people would be ready to make that excuse, but thats just the nature of this forum. There are some statements I don't need to make because their made here ad nauseum. Just like the Wings "domination" tonight.

I never said you did. But your statement was an allusion to the fact that the way we played tonight had nothing to do with the way Anaheim played tonight. "The way they played tonight, absolutely." From that I can gather that you mean with the way the played tonight, they would have beaten any worthy opponent. Another way of saying that is that their play tonight was good enough to beat the play of any opponent, despite how fresh or talented the opponent was. If thats not what you meant, then I apologize for the assumed allusion..

How do you not know that? You're nitpicking at this point, but I'll play along. The Wings had 47 shots and goal and got two goals out of it. Getzlaf, Selanne, Niedermayer, and Kunitz - all very fast skaters - were sluggish tonight. They spent little time in our zone and the majority of their shots were harmless, and they couldn't even manage 20 of them. From my vantage points, its much easier to correlate a Wings team that has played poorly lately and a Ducks team that has played incredibly well lately to their respective energy levels in correspondence to when they last played. But thats just me. I suppose you're opinion is just as valid - which is to say, neither right or wrong. Unfortunately, neither of us have any way of predicting the ouctomes of hypothetical situations.

This is the hypocrisy I'm getting at - a lot of people have been saying "such and such opponent wasn't that great tonight - we made them look better." Yet we can turn that around and apply that to the Wings? With the way Anaheim played tonight, they made the Wings look better than they would have otherwise.

Being pessimistic and realistic are two different things. There are positives to take from this game, and there are negatives. I choose to address both.

Oh I don't have to. People have already excused the Wings from losing to the Ducks because the Wings had played the night before. I expect there will be plenty of people to excuse them out of their next loss. I'm just returning the favor. Apparently, I'm the only one who sees the hypocrisy in excusing us from losing after a 2nd game in two nights but saying that shoulnd't be a factor in rating our win tonight.

Fair enough. I can buy into that. They beat a team they should have beaten, which is an accomplishment in it of itself. I'm just wondering if we would have "dominated" playing that same hockey against a fresh, decent team. ..but I'll leave it at that.

Yeah, I can see you're up to your typical homer antics. Which is cool - considering you don't post other than to jump on anyone criticizing the Wings, I'm pretty sure your this is a fake username. You're probably not anything more than a regular poster on this board who wants to vent their frustration by posting the same idiotic crap over and over. At any rate, I pointed out the positives - the Wings didn't take stupid penalties with the lead, and they didn't crumble while protecting the lead. They also kept Anaheim's big line off the board, but this was an easy two points tonight. The Ducks were dead tired from the drop of the puck.

Ehh, I wouldn't really say the dominated. 47 shots against a team that had played the night before and only 2 goals to show for it isn't what Id consider dominating. The Ducks were really, really, average tonight. I'll take it, but I can see a lot of people running with this win saying the Wings are back to old form when I really don't think they are. A fresh good team would've given them much more trouble. The Ducks basically rolled over tonight. Getzlaf, Perry, Selanne - all invisble tonight.

14 goals puts Hossa 3rd in goals. Oh yeah, I forgot, good to see the Wings keep Getzlaf and Fairy off the board.
