Good production from Franzen, but still not a top 20 forward. Top 20 goal scorer? I could buy that, but hes not complete enough to be considered top 20 overall.

Awesome all around effort. Took 16 games to get it done, but Red Wings hockey was here for 60 minutes! TONS of battles won tonight.

6.6M? No discount there. Hes not worth near what Datsyuk is (although Datsyuks deal was higher by nature of the cap at the time) and hes not worth more than a guy like Getzlaf. Not to mention, 15 points in 16 games is ok and all, but not incredibly special. Now, with that said, this IS the Avs, and Stastny is proving to be the best forward on the squad. In that regard, you could expect Joe Sakic's heir apparent (using that term liberally) to get paid a lot.

Just another reason that the +/- stat is deceiving. It only means anything when you do an in-depth analysis of each player. A high +/- means nothing for a pure offensive player who spends NO time against the oppositions top scoring lines. Same can be said for a low or negative +/- for a player who scores little but spends all his time against the oppositions top scoring lines. You also have to take the goaltender into account as well as linemates. Are you in the red because of YOUR poor defensive play or because your linemate gave up the puck to the opposition two feet in front of the net. Are you in the red because your goaltender can't stop a beach ball? If +/- said something for defensive play, then none of our Dmen would be in the black.

I've crunched the numbers. On reasonable projections for Hank, Hossa, and Franzen, while trading/removing the likes of Sammy, Hudler, McCarty, Chelios, Lebda, Downey, AND Filppula, and calling up Ericsson, Helm, Abdelkader, and Leino as replacements, the number STILL comes out to 60+ million. No way the cap goes up that high and no way we play smack up against the cap again. Please stop planning for Hank, Hossa, and Franzen all to be a part of this team next year, because it won't happen.

Yeah I'm sure the Stars just offered up Boucher so that they could get the short end of the stick in the trade. Obviously they see something in Sydor to make the move - probably that hes just one of those players who plays better in their system than in other systems.

Thats pretty much how I feel. As I've said before, its not the difference between Franzen at, say, 4.5M per (although at the rate hes going it could be higher than that) and Hossa at 8M per. Its the difference between Franzen + 3.5M extra in cap space to spread around and Hossa.

With the exception of maybe 10-15 minutes in the 2nd period, it was a pretty solid effort by the Wings.
