At this point, its a complete waste to have Draper centering Hudler and Cleary. At this point in Drapers career, the offensive skill of Helm vs Draper is a wash, if not in Helms favor.

Niedermayer? Check. Selanne? Check. Home opener within the continental US/Canada? Check. So what are the excuses now, Burkey?

If you want to look at this season alone, hes not only doing better than Leino, but Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Hossa too.

Make that 2 goals in his first game.

"Lidstrom Cap" for re-signing next year's free agents
YoungGuns1340 replied to Icesurfer's topic in General
All this says is that he thinks Zetterbergs salary will be less than Lidstroms for the following season. Not the cap hit. He could make 7M next year, but if hes making 9.5M in year 3 of whats expected to be a long-term contract, then it doesnt mean much for the cap hit and it matters little overall since the Wings dont have a budget. -
The vintage jersey with the word Detroit across the chest, two red stripes above, two below is my all time favorite wings jersey. Classic, simple, and now vintage. I'd love to see them sport that jersey for a game or two.

http://redwingscentral.com/redwingscorner/...134828017065498 Makes sense, but I don't see why Babs didn't give Huds a heads up, tell him to shoot more, and then give him a few more games on the 2nd line to figure things out. Its not like Hudler is the only one not meshing well with his linemates..

Great post. No one is insinuating that the Wings are going to fall out of playoff contention (although the anti-panic committee would have you think any slight critique is, as you said, an indication to hop of the bandwagon and call it a season) but as of now they haven't been able to dominate average opponents and don't deserve to be counted among the elite just yet. ...although I dont think theres a fan in Red Wings Nation that doesnt think we'll get there at some point.
-
While thats true, every point counts. Carolina, Ottawa, and Toronto are nothing more than average teams this year. And the Wings have still struggled against them. What happens when the Wings face a team that actually has a formidable offense...or a formidable defense for that matter? A few games lost here and there may seem like nothing in the beginning, but its the difference between who you face in the playoffs and home ice as well. It'll be interesting to see how well the Wings do against the San Joses, Rangers, and Canadiens of the NHL. Mike Babcock is right. The Wings are just one of the pack. They've done nothing to prove they are elite. Granted its only 3 games into the season, but this team has a better roster than any other in the league. Something special should be made out of that.

This is a terrible study. First of all, no one is forced to buy food or drinks at a game. Second, the typical party that attends an NHL hockey game - at least at the Joe - is not comprised of two adults and two children, which is what this study is insinuating. If you want to look at what it costs the average fan to attend a hockey game, you should look at ticket prices, fees, and parking. Nothing else. The price of beer and hot dogs is not what deters me from going to a hockey game. If I like hockey enough, and dont have the money to spend on beer and hot dogs, then I bring my own food and sneak in a bottle of what have you and enjoy the game that way.

http://www.freep.com/article/20081014/SPOR...6/1053/SPORTS05 I wondered last game when Cleary would get his chance on the 2nd line. I the first three games, I thought Cleary was our most energetic and consistent forward. Hes looked dangerous several times each game. It only makes sense that he should get his chance to see what he can do on a top line. Hes been making a lot of something out of nothing, so it should be interesting to see what he can do with something.

Where are people coming up with this "If not Chelios, then Quincey" logic? If Chelios weren't signed, then Meech would be our 7th Dman. If Chelios AND Meech werent signed, then Lebda would likely be our 7th Dman Ericsson in the top 6. So if Chelios, Meech, AND Ericsson weren't in the picture then Quincey would find himself with the Wings, yet still in the 7th position after Lebda. The likelihood that this kid would ever find himself in a regular rotation with the Wings is slim to none. By the time his time came, I wouldnt be surprised if a guy like Kindl, Pyett, or Smith had surpassed him.

If Latendresse is overrated, then so is Kindl.
-
Nice job from Conklin. Wow.
-
Haha go figure Hank gets his first with the EN.

-
Come on Hank. Wheres your magic?

I'd love to see Cleary get his chance on the 2nd line. I love how Babcock puts Sammy on the 2nd line not 1 minute after Sammy proves hes not worth his PP time.

I dont know what youre arguing for. Im talking about Datsyuk and Hossas chemistry. Because Datsyuk passed the puck to Lidstrom, who passed the puck to Rafalski, who passed the puck to Hossa says nothing about Hossa and Datsyuks chemistry. Hence the reason why I listed the succession of the passing. Just because Datsyuk and Hossa were both involved in the play - as was everyone else on the ice - doesnt mean they look good together.
-
Man Conklins seeing everything.
-
One thing I have yet to be disappointed with in these first 3 games is the defensive effort from our forwards. Our guys are always coming back to help out.
-
Ward has gotten a lot better as the game has gone on...
-
And your rebuttal is a personal attack as opposed to logic. Those posts are always indication of what logic you have left to argue with.
-
Datsyuk to Lidstrom to Rafalski to Hossa to Holmstrom. Would we also like to add Conklin to that equation?
-
Not a bad shot by Kopecky. And nice rush by both he and Malts.
