Lilja re-signs w/2-year, est. $2.4M deal
YoungGuns1340 replied to pinkprincess027's topic in General
I don't see why everyone is so hyped up about this. All in all its a decent signing. A Dman who was poised to be a UFA got barely over 1M? Thats pretty much unheard of these days, even for a bottom pairng Dman. Liljas the kind of guy you like to having on the roster going into the playoffs anyways. I don't understand how people can be so upset about an incredibly tradeable contract and player. There are a ton of teams in this league that would jump at the chance to land a big shot-blocking PK specialist on a nearly non-impact contract, even if its only for a mid-low round pick. -

I don't think losing him is what people care about. The nature of offer-sheets is to overpay a player to lure him away. The Wings are fortunate to not have a single bloated contract on the payroll as of now. Filppula's paycheck could get kinda ugly...at least in terms of what I personally think hes worth. -

Here comes Brian Burke. Even if its only to drive up Vals price through an offer-sheet as Kenny already said he'd match. I'm guessing this means the Wings want to sign Zetterberg and then see where Franzen and Filppula fit in on the long-term. -
We already have a 7/8 Dman.

Florida knows how to reward 0.4 ppg forwards

If Flip signed for 3M per year on a 6 year contract, I would jump for joy. And I'm not even that big of a Flip fan. That would take him all the way up til hes 30 years old. Its the 3M over 3 years type contracts that Im worried about. -

I dont see whats wrong with the deal. 3M is going to be an absolute pittance by the time this deal ends. And if Olesz so much as puts up 45-50 points next season, he'll already by underpaid by market standards. You've got guys in the 45-55 point range earning $4-5M. Hell, Sean frickin Avery is looking to get 4M over 4 years and word has it as many as 5-6 GMs would take him at that price. I like Olesz a lot. And like 50% of Florida's roster, hes underrated. -
It will not be Tomas Kopecky. The reason the Wings are even concerned about adding a vet is not because they need a spot to fill. If it were about depth play, they wouldn't be looking - Kopecky, Helm, Abdelkader, etc. Take your pick. It has nothing to do with that. It has been said by Holland, Babcock, the freep, Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Ozzie, etc that one of their huge motivators through the playoffs was Dallas Drake. Why? Because he was an honorable teammate who was popular in the lockerroom in the twilight of his career wanting more than anything to win his first cup. Thats why Lidstrom said that even in round 1 he knew he would hand the cup off to Drake first if they won it all. Drake was huge behind the scenes apparently. Thats the #1 reason they're even pursuing a guy like that. Babcock is already cognizant of a Stanley Cup Hangover, and he wants the Wings brass to get a good motivator on the squad to avoid complacency. In case you haven't noticed, Kopecky provides ZERO of that. Of the guys folks have brought up, the name that stands out most is Mike Peca. Hes the only guy there that really fits that Dallas Drake mold of the ones mentioned in this thread. Jeremy Roenick would've been a nice choice as well, but thats out of the picture now.. Any ideas via trade?

Foote is 36, but regardless, 3M is a pretty good deal on the market these days. 3M at age 39 is a little tough to swallow, but who knows where the cap will be at that time, or market value for Dmen either. Liles got about what I expected. He might've even got more on the open market. A lot of teams are desperate for puck-movers, and likely would've bidded out some team to get it. I know how much everyone loved Stuart here, but I wonder if Salei might've filled in just as admirably with the Wings. Hes a very underrated puck-mover, and more physical than Stuart as well. The difference is, Salei isn't a rental. When the Avs traded that (2nd?) pick for him, he still had 2 years left on his contract at 3M. Ironically, thats exactly the type of contract the Wings could take on.

My first instinct was to interject with a "what the hell" comment, but then I looked at their cap space, and they really are in great shape. They need 6 more forwards (Roberts, Prospal, Rolston, Malone, Stamkos not included), then likely 1 more depth guy. If you figure roughly 14M for the 4 guys acquired, thats about 51-52M on a full roster with some big names up front, assuming they sign them all. Prospal - Lecavalier - St. Louis Malone - Stamkos - Rolston Jokinen - Halpern - Ouellet Roberts - Craig - Roy Thats a really nice, full forward unit, should they all sign.

Joey Mac was a mistake? Nope. And Berkhoel? He couldn't even steal the starting job from Jimmy in the minors and isn't even in the picture in terms of competition for a back-up job. McCollum will be playing college hockey. Larsson has never even played NA hockey. Hes GR bound to at the very least get accustomed to the intense schedule. Jimmy isn't going to be threatened by any of those guys and management likely wont even consider them for the job. The Wings will go out and get a vet whos looking to re-establish a career. Fortunately for the Wings, there are plenty of options out there who could likely accept minors time in order to get a chance at once again proving themselves in the NHL - let alone with the Red Wings.

I like this move for both sides. Visnovsky is still a good offensive Dman, but Ive heard complaints from the Kings that they want to get a little tougher on the back-end and Lubo is pretty soft, and a young banger like Greene will definitely help them out. Plus in a rebuilding stage, Greene will likely be more valuable in the long-run. It'll be nice for the Kings to have Johnson and Doughty getting some strong time on the PP rather than Lubo, and Blake will be their as the mentor. And as others have mentioned...Stuart comes home. If they lock up Stuart long-term, Johnson, Doughty, Stuart, and Greene should be a great core in a few years. Stoll makes them deeper, and hes a pretty decent defensive forward, so thatll help out the Kings as well. Although there are still a lot of questions surrounding in terms of post concussion syndrome. He really hasnt played the same since. Its also a good deal for Oilers, as their youngster really seemed to be on the right track. More ice time for them I suppose. I like this deal.
-
So they've acquired the rights to Prospal, Roberts, Malone, and Rolston? Hmm. Tampa must be pretty satisfied with their defense. Their defense is actually incredibly cheap. 15M for 7 Dmen. Their goaltending only costs 2.5 as well. Thats less than 18M wrapped up in 7 Dmen and 2 goalies. Its no wonder they're wowing on offense. Even though there are some question marks there (what happens if any or Ramo, Smith, O'Brien, Ranger, or Lundin hit a wall?). Its nice to see them cutting lose a lot of the crap on that team. Darche, Karlsson, Macdonald, Gratton (I know I know hes really a clone of Todd Bertuzzi in his prime ) If they can sign Rolston, they're in a pretty similar situation to where Philly was post trade deadline. Tons of offense can get you pretty far in the East.

Goals of the Participants of the Game As GM: Your goal is to maintain/rebuild/improve your team through free agency and trading. If you are interested in a Free Agent, you should Personal Message (PM) the agent of the player you are interested in. The agents for several players are listed below. If you are interested in trading for a player, you should PM the GM of the team which the player plays on. ALL NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN AGENTS/GMS AND BETWEEN TWO GMS SHOULD BE DONE THROUGH PERSONAL MESSAGING. Keep in mind that although you may be a Red Wings fan, you should have your clients or team in your best interest. (That means you have to keep in mind that a guy like Mikael Samuelsson DOES have some value to teams who are in need of scoring depth, for example.) As Agent: Your goal is to get the best contract for your player and put him in the best situation. You should keep in mind what his needs and wants are as a player. For example, if Jose Theodore wants a starting job as goaltender, as an agent you´d give those GMs offering Theodore a position as starter over those who are offering him a position as backup behind a sure-fire starter. You should also keep in mind negotiating bonuses for your player and also the well-being for your player. If your player is unhappy during the season, it is your job to approach the GM about a possible trade for your player, if the situation isn´t dealt with. Like GMs, If an agent has a client who is interested in playing for a certain team, he should contact the GM of the team through personal mesasaging, or can send out a PM to all NHL GMs telling them what his agents interests or demands are. NHL Advisory Committee (AC): The members of the advisory committee must review all trades and free agent signings. If ONE member of the group has a legitimate concern with one of the trades of signings, he should take it up with the other memebers of the Advisory Committee (AC). For example, should Ottawa decide to trade Jason Spezza to Detroit for Tomas Kopecky and a 7th round pick, this trade won´t be allowed. Likewise, if Brian Campbell is signed to a 3 year contract that only pays him 1.2M per year, it can´t be concerend a legitimate signing due to its extreme unlikeliness. This is to ensure that fellow GMs or GMs and Agents aren´t collaborating with one another in a way that would give them an unfair advantage over other players in the game. If there is some disagreement among AC members as to whether or not a trade or signing is legitimate, it will be taken to a vote. Also, if there is a player without an agent that a GM would like to hold negotiations with, he must do so with at least TWO members of the Advisory Committee to ensure fairness of negotations. . The Advisory Committee also has the power to fire GMs, but this will only be used in extreme circumstances, if at all, and can only happen in the case of a unanimous vote of AC members. Rules 1. Players cannot assume the position of both GM and Agent. Players can however act as a member of the Advisory Committee as well a GM/agent. 2. If you decide to quit your job as GM/agent/Advisor, you must find a replacement before resigning and you must notify the Advisory Committee of the change. 3. GMs can appoint ONE assistant GM to the team. 4. Agents MUST represent AT LEAST 9 players. No more than 4 can be superstar players. 5. You must start out using the currrent rosters of all NHL teams. Two-way contracted players and prospects are included. Please use NHLnumbers.com or NHLscap.com for reference. 6. There will be no fantasy draft. The actual draft outcome will be used. 7. The Cap will be 56 million and every team can spend to the max. How the Game is Played As of now, the game will be played over 2 seasons. The first season schedule will start as follows: 2008 season (simulated by EHM using post free agency rosters): Early May (exact date TBD) – Free Agency Period Begins Early/Mid June – NHL season starts Early/Mid August (end of regular season) 2008-2009 season (standings determined by an accumulation of points, determind by actual NHL performances of players): August 15th – Free Agency Period Begins October (exact date TBD) – NHL season starts April 2009 – season ends How to accrue points in the 2008-2009 season: Players: Goal scored (3), Assist (2), +/- (1), fight (1), Goalies: Win(4), Shutout(2), OTL(1), GA(-1), SV (0.2) Advisors (no hierarchy) Advisor 1: Youngguns1340 Advisor 2: Doggy Advisor 3: RedFX Advisor 4: Greatness=Pavel Datsyuk Advisor 5: Real1 General Managers Detroit: Lidstromfan5 Chicago: MSUSpartanfan72 Columbus: HckyPete96 Nashville: RedFX St Louis: CupChamps979802 Dallas: Hank Dats N Homer Colorado: Real1 Phoenix: irishtemper 14 + 25 Minnesota: Jamaica Jon Vancouver: Calgary: CrossCheck24 Los Angeles: WingMachine91 San Jose: Bannedforlife Anaheim: Never Forget Mac #25 Edmonton: goredwings Pittsburgh: RedWingsfan18 Philadephia: RainingBlood New York Rangers: JayUp88 New Jersey: goalieman2x2002 New York Islanders: Booster313 Montreal: AWingsincebirth Ottawa: T-Ruff Tampa Bay: The Wheeled Winger Florida: Redwings1914 Atlanta: Youngguns1340 Toronto: Detroit#1 Fan Boston: Son of a Wing Buffalo: Reds4Life Carolina: Krazygangsta Washington: SeeinRed Agents/Players: **Agents can now represent up to 4 superstars, 6 mid-level players, and 6 journeymen/entry level players (16 players total)** *MORE AGENTS NEEDED* Dano33 - Marc Savard, Pavel Datsyuk, Dan Cleary, Chris Higgins, Andrei Kostitsyn, Chris Osgood, Jason Spezza, Cristobal Huet, Sergei Kostitsyn, Andrew Cogliano, Milan Lucic, Carey Price, Ilya Kovalchuk, Mike Smith, Anze Kopitar, Mathieu Garon FireCaptain - Alex Ovechkin, Henrik Zetterberg, JP Dumont, Brendan Shanahan, Darren McCarty Mac is Back- Nicklas Lidstrom, Sidney Crosby, Ryan Miller, Nicklas Backstrom (F), Justin Abdelkader, Evgeni Malkin, Mike Green, Jon Tavares, Sergei Fedorov, Brad Stuart, Kyle Quincey, Mark Streit, Kristian Huselius, Vaclav Prospal, Tim Connolly, Michael Ryder SuperCalaFilppulastic!- Marian Hossa, Markus Naslund, Valterri Filppula, Ryan Malone, Curtis Joseph, Fabian Brunnstrom, Jon Toews, Teemu Selanne, Shea Weber, Daymond Langkow, Georges Laraque, Sam Gagner, Josh Harding, Vinny Lecavalier, Jeff Carter IceMunkee - Evgeni Nabakov, Brian Campbell, Dion Phaneuf, Johan Franzen, Correy Perry, Niklas Backstrom (G), Ryan Clowe, Pascal Leclaire, Patrick Kane, Dan Carcillo, Chris Chelios, Joe Sakic Datsyukian Geek - Alexei Kovalev, Henrik Lundqvist, Jarome Iginla, David Setoguchi, Marc-Andre Fleury, Mark Recchi, Mike Peca, Brian Rolston, Miroslav Satan, Dan Ellis, Johnathan Ericsson, Erik Johnson, Joe Thornton, Ron Hainsey, Martin Erat, Martin Lapointe Digitaljohn88 - Jose Theodore, Mats Sundin, Peter Forsberg, Olaf Kolzig, Sean Avery, Mike Commodore, Ty Conklin, Alex Auld, Patrick Lalime, Jocelyn Thibault, Michael Leighton, Kari Lehtonen, Patrick O´Sullivan, Rob Blake, Andreas Lilja, Glen Metropolit Players in Desperate Need of Agents! Jose Theodore to test free agent market
YoungGuns1340 replied to Greatness=PavelDatsyuk's topic in General
I don't know. Theodore stole the starting position from Budaj. What does that say about Buddah? Not a lot of options for the Avs right now.. This years goalie market is hysterical. Theodore, Cloutier, Emery, Raycroft, Denis, etc. Its like a "who's who" of regressing goaltenders. -
I saw several of Liljas, Sammys, and Maltbys game-worns all for 400 or less. Liljas was actually only 200 bucks. I was tempted to add it to what else I had picked up, but declined. Anyone get a crack at the playoff game-worn jerseys? Hank and Pashas jerseys were $4,500. I ended up getting myself a game-worn Kronwall jersey for $500, rubber marks and all. I plan on getting it signed..

Rolston had 3:47 in PP time this year. He had 31 goals. 11 were PP goals. If he were on the 2nd unit PP, his PP time would likely decrease by 25% (2:50 PP TOI. Sammy was at 2:43 this year). Thats a little less than 3 PP goals fewer. Thats 28 goals down from 31 goals. I guess 3 goals is a significant hit these days.
-
Schneider put up 17 PP goals in his last 3 years with the Wings. Im using your stat here, but you said Rolston put up 39 from the point. Clearly Rolston is a damn good point man as well. Which is probably why hes always used there. Maybe not as good as Schneider, but certainly good enough to boot Sammy off the point. And point me in the direction of where I said the Nick, Nik, and Raffi were weaknesses? I said it was a testament to our weakness that Sammy is on the point. Meaning we have 3 strong point men....and nothing else to speak of.
-
The actual numbers are key. Rolstons PP ice time wouldnt be diminshed by nearly 4 minutes.
-
And thats my point. That line in my initial post was probably the least relevant to the discussion, yet you pluck it out to start an irrelevant argument. Thanks for that. And you could turn around the fact that he "wasn't being used as he historically has" as a case for his having fallen down the depth chart in arguably his strongest area of the game. Which is interesting, because he truly was stellar defensively this year if you caught any games (which is another reason why I dont see the contract as overpaying anymore. Although it was at the time, along with others..) The funny thing is, Hamrlik is being regarded here as a #1, at least in terms of offensive talent, yet why was he not used as such in his role with Montreal? Its even more interesting when you consider that Markov-Streit were the first unit on the points and were thus the QBs for what ended up being the #1 PP in the entire NHL this year. Again, this argument is getting way out of hand. My point, again, was simply that Hamrlik got a lot of money for being a #2/3 defenseman - as he was on his last contract with Calgary - and one that didn't even hit the 40pt mark in those two years.
-
Ray Whitney. Averaging more PP time before coming to the Wings before any other player at over 6 minutes a game. We all know Rolston averages 6 per
-
Is that why he had Schneider and Lidstrom - both lefties - eating up PP time together like nobodys business for the past few years? Cause hes so stubborn about it? Give me a break. Youre advocating that a guy who has scored 16 goals in 3 years on the PP (and likely not all of those were from the point, as Willy had that point spot for almost half that time) with Detroit is going to stick to the point over a guy that scored 39? Just cause hes a righty? Thats ridiculous. Who else do the Wings put on the point? If a guy can average 13 goals from the point in the last three years, you put him on the point. Same reason why Babcock must have made a concession to have Schneider and Lidstrom out there together as two lefties. You play your best players in that regard. The fact that Wings have no one else of note to supply the point shot is not a testament to Babcocks obsessions, but rather our weakness in that area..
-
Thats a terrible scenario. Rolston has played for the Wild the last three years. Thats effectively living in Las Vegas in your little scenario. Its amusing to me that the guy played in a very defensive minded role in Boston - where he nearly put up 30 goals twice - and then played with the Wild - in a very defensive minded system - and put up 30+ goals every year - and yet with Detroit he'd fall amongst the many 40 point players we have according to you folks. And Im not even advocating that we sign the guy.
-
The slapper was what I meant. In fact, since you know that he used the slapper in shootouts, you should know that he got away with it a few times IN A ROW in the 07 season which is impressive alone considering that goaltenders knew it was coming at that point. There was the story about Lemaire having the dream that Rolston scored in a shootout with the slapper blah blah blah and it ended up happening. In fact, I think the 2nd time he scored with the slapper was against the Wings in a shootout. Have to check that one though. Also, viable is one thing, improved is another. Its silly to place Rolston in a Franzen like role and compare them. Not that you are. Just proving a point that Rolston would take over Sammys role, so in terms of PP time, it would only make sense to compare Sammy and Rolston. As for Sammy on the point, I still dont see where youre going with that. Sammy IS meh on the point. Which is why a guy like Rolston who has seen (mostly, not always as Bouchard took his place a little bit on the point this year) a lot of point time and has proved damn good at it would take his place. Its only good coaching.
-
Jeez. Some of you folks on here just love to pick fights about points Im not even making. My point was that for a guy that was a 2/3 on his last contract (and the past 6 years), he signed a new contract at 5.5M. Which suggests that a 2/3 could make in the range of 4-6M. Which is why now, with a risen cap, and the continuation of inflated salaries with defenseman, seeing a guy like Orpik getting 3-4M is actually market price, and the lower end of 3-4M would actually be a good price, considering this market. Even though it disgusts me to say that Orpik at 3M is a good price. Evas statement was that Hamrlik is a #1 and he got paid like a #1. So I pointed out that, no, he is not a #1, but was still paid very good money last year. If you want to use Schneider as an example also, go for it. Schneider was a #2 with the Wings and he got paid (at the time) what was a #1s salary (but not necessarily a franchise Dmans salary a la Pronger, Nieds, Lidstrom). Schneiders contract was slightly more, but it was also shorter-term and he was coming off a much better year offensively in comparison to Hammer. And you think Hamrlik was under-utlized? In what way? As in...he should have been #1 on the Habs instead of Markov? See thats strange. Because 1) Markov is the better Dman. And a very underrated guy around the league at that and 2) I think I'd take the Jack Adams runner-ups game tactics as opposed to anyones on this board. Including my own. EDIT: Also, Hamrlik actually had a great year with the Habs. Not statistically on his terms (although he did have the same point total as a #2 in Montreal as he did as a #3 in Calgary), but defensively, yes, it was probably one of his best years.
