NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Laraque isn't a bad idea at all. The only thing is, I could see him making substantially more than your average enforcer because, well, hes not your average enforcer. He has enough skill to be an everyday player, but I could see him getting a little over 1M for a few years, and Detroit wont offer that. Isnt he coming off a 1.5M contract? Maybe we could steal Sortini from Edmonton??
-
He may be useless, but he sticks up for his teammates. Wings fans like him because hes the first legit enforcer on this squad since McCarty before injury issues, and the subsequent release. You take what you can get. As far as I remember, McGrattan is going to hit the market, but Downeys already built a rapport with the fans. Its character schmucks like Downey that are great for the fans.

Tucker is a free agent. Toronto paying out 1M to Tucker over the next six years is irrelevant to his next contract. And Tucker also isnt an enforcer, but a glorified agitator who can score.
-
Ha. No. Whats embarassing is having a measly 15,000 people show up to your Stanley Cup "event". The Ducks aren't even a real hockey team.
-
But thats just it. This should put an end to all the misery. Likely Leafs fans WILL have something to look forward to because they know what to expect. Now at least they get to watch young future stars develop before their eyes while doing it. And the best part is, if they bomb, they'll get a strong chance at Tavares. Not to mention, Kubina is going to be a hot trade item as there are a TON of teams looking for a top pairing puck mover, and only so many to go around. Not to mention, once we see how Dman like Orpik - who are realistically no better than a #5 or a weak #4 - getting paid 4M per, Kubinas contract is going to look REALLY good to a LOT of teams. And if they really wanted to, they could get a boatload for Kaberle.

I dont think people really have a problem with him coming back, so much as it is he will and Stuart won't. And the fact that if the Wings are only looking to offer 3M to Stuart, they certainly wont be in play for any 4th defenseman on the market, as 3M won't get them much. I think most people on the board would tolerate Lilja as a 6th Dman. Unfortunately, it looks as though he'll get a bigger role - one that he can't handle and doesnt deserve.
-
Brian Burke just put Tucker's agent's number on speed dial.
-
Drake and Chelios have done a TON of things in their respective careers that can follow this line of things, and worse.

Im not sure if you were referring to my post or not, but you apparently didnt understand what I meant about Ryder being right there with Isbister and Wellwood. But I edited my point to make it more clear, if you were in fact responding to my post.
-
NFM...chill buddy...that post wasn't aimed at you. It was my personal opinion on things. In fact, all I was doing in quoting your post was to provide my opinion as to why I thought the Wings were re-signing him. And then state what I personally hated about the re-signing. Wasnt an attack on you at all man..
-
What are you smoking dude? Half your posts on this board are made just to goad other posters into arguments you cant win. Youre an idiot if you think signing Sundin to a one year deal when we have close to a third of our cap space remaining is even remotely similar to Pittsburgh trading Esposito, Christensen, Armstrong, and a 1st. Not only do we give up NOTHING other than money, but it would also have ZERO effect on our ability to retain core players, both now, and in the following year.
-
Ryders problem is inconsistency and a poor work ethic. I wouldnt have minded him on the Wings a few years ago, but the fact that the Habs didnt want much to do with him even AFTER he had just scored 30 goals tells you something. Gainey only re-signed Ryder last year because he missed out on other offensive talents. Case in point why he only signed the guy to a 1 year contract despite coming off back to back 30 goal seasons and now isnt even making the effort to re-sign him. As for the guys you mentioned, I wouldnt mind seeing either goalie come to the Wings training camp on a tryout basis, simply to push Jimmy Howard to play his best, especially since Howard has had a problem with the will to condition himself in the past. As for Isbister and Wellwood, Id put Ryder right up there with them. Meaning I dont want the Wings to take a second look at him. For Stillman, I wanted him on the Wings after he was with Tampa, and was disappointed when we didnt land him, but hes not going to take a one year contract. Similarly, hes not the direction the Wings should be going in. I like his offensive capabilities, and his work ethic is decent, but his physicality and checking leave something to be desired. Although it could be worse.

For everyone saying theres a reason the Lightning are buying him out, you are right. But its not what you think. Smith is on his way to being a great goalie, and Ramo is turning into something incredible as well. Believe it or not, they have two great up and comers in net, which makes the somewhat expensive Denis expendable. Theyre still relatively tight money-wise, and buying out Denis is a good step in the right direction.
-
Haha. You make a thread saying how youve seen too many threads about players Detroit will have no interest in whatsoever. And you come up with Ryder and Stillman?? Haha. Good one.
-
He didn't want to win the cup as a rental. He said that over and over again. He said if was going to win the cup, he wanted to be with the team at the start of the season. Not ride their coattails to victory.
-
I dont see how or why Sundin would want to go to a non playof team in the twilight of his career. Why not just retire?
-
Mack, maybe you can verify this, but I've heard that Sundin has some investments in Canada that he could lose serious money on if he moved from Canada to the U.S. Is this true? If so, it shouldnt effect the Wings. He can rent an apartment in Windsor.
-
Yeah. Itd be so terrible to spend a chunk of money on an elite forward and former captain who could feasibly only look for a one year contract. God forbid we spend some of the 17M we have available on something that cant be qualified as depth.
-
And if Sundin does join Anaheim, Corey Perry WON'T be back. FYI, Anaheim has 50M committed to their cap next year. Thats 6.3M to re-sign Selanne AND Perry. Even moving Schneider wouldnt be enough to crate the room for the 7M contract that Mats wants.

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08176/892177-61.stm Gary Roberts wants to come back, but not to Pittsburgh. He'd undoubtedly sign a one year contract given his age and his injury problems last year. He'd also be the perfect complement to play on a line with Hudler and whoever centered them. Wouldnt have to worry much about Hudler getting pushed around with Roberts out there. Edit: Oops I see I misspelled Roberts. Hope everyone can figure out that I mean Gary ROBERTS.
-
Probably about how good Corey Perry will look in a Canucks uniform.

Kyle Wellwood is canadian, and he is soft. This isnt some dismissal aobut his game due to his nationality. Its an observation about his game. People seriously need to watch some of the players on here before they go to the stat sheet and draw their conclusions from there. Toronto is rebuilidng and is going to hoard all the young talent they can find. The fact that they're cutting Wellwood lose speaks volumes.
-
Theres speculation that Boston has already acquried rights to talk to Marian Hossa. Boston doesnt need centers. They have Savard and Kessel who needs all the playing time at center he can get to keep developing. They need wingers. They were in the running to get Hossa at the deadline and now theyre even more eager. Theyre also ready to trade (almost) anyone off their roster to get Hossa or even waive Glen Murray or buy him out.
